Not with a general player-facing spawn-rate setting. The available controls depend on what you mean by “spawning”: natural mobs, a mob spawner, or mobs created by commands. In Bedrock, /gamerule domobspawning turns mob spawning on or off; it does not make mobs spawn faster. Bedrock add-ons and Java data-driven settings offer more specialized customization, but neither is a simple survival-world slider for all mobs.
First, identify what you want to spawn
Natural mob spawning, a block-based spawner, and command-created mobs are different systems. A setting that affects one does not necessarily change the others or raise a world-wide spawn rate. Check whether you play Java or Bedrock and note the game version before following edition-specific instructions.
- Natural mobs: mobs that appear through the game’s normal world and gameplay rules.
- Spawner mobs: mobs produced by a spawner block, with behavior that can be configured separately in some contexts.
- Command-created mobs: entities placed into the world through commands; this is not natural spawning.
Bedrock: the built-in gamerule is on or off
In Bedrock, domobspawning controls whether mobs spawn into the game, according to Microsoft’s gamerule reference. It is not a rate multiplier: setting it to true allows spawning, but does not make mobs appear faster. The command’s availability also depends on having permission to use commands in the world.
If spawning has been disabled, a player with command access can use:

/gamerule domobspawning true
This restores the on/off permission for mob spawning; it does not promise a particular number of mobs or alter the natural spawning rate. Microsoft’s reference was last updated April 21, 2026.
Bedrock add-ons: creators can customize spawn rules
For custom entities and creator-made experiences, Bedrock supports configurable spawn rules. The creator documentation describes conditions and controls such as density limits, distance and difficulty filters, delay filters, weights, and herd configuration. These are tools for defining when and how a custom entity may spawn, not a built-in slider for increasing every mob’s rate in an ordinary world.

Java: new data-driven settings are not a universal slider
Java Edition 26.3 release notes describe data-driven natural-spawn configuration, including the minecraft:gameplay/natural_mob_spawns environment attribute and minecraft:gameplay:creature_world_gen_spawn_probability. The latter concerns iterations during world generation for the creature category; it is not a general adjustment to all ongoing mob spawning. These settings are intended for data-driven configuration, rather than a simple survival setting available to every player. See the Java 26.3 release notes for their scope.
Spawner settings and spawn chunks affect different things
Spawner behavior
A spawner’s rules are distinct from natural mob spawning across the world. Minecraft’s article on experimental world-generation changes describes the spawner-specific CustomSpawnRules used by map-makers; it does not establish a way to raise the global natural spawn rate. See Minecraft’s article on the experimental changes.

Spawn chunks
Java’s spawnChunkRadius controls the size of the chunks around world spawn that remain loaded under the relevant mechanics. Changing that radius is not documentation for increasing how quickly natural mobs spawn near a player. The setting is described in Mojang’s 24w03a snapshot notes.
What to try if you are seeing too few mobs
- Check the edition and version. Java and Bedrock have different controls, and instructions for a snapshot or release may not apply to your version.
- Decide which system you mean. A natural-spawning issue is different from a spawner setup or a command-created mob.
- In Bedrock, check whether spawning is disabled. If you have command access,
/gamerule domobspawning trueenables spawning; it does not set a faster rate. - If you are making a Bedrock add-on, use the official spawn-rule references to configure the custom entity’s conditions rather than looking for a global rate slider.
- For Java data packs or custom content, consult documentation for your exact release before using the 26.3 data-driven attributes.
There is no supported universal spawn-rate number, cap, or difficulty recommendation established here for all editions and mobs. Community requests such as “why cant we increase spawnrates?” reflect player feedback, not authoritative mechanics documentation.
