That describes the announcement—not a promise that Xbox will never make a more powerful console.
What did Xbox announce?
On June 9, 2024, Xbox Devices head Roanne Sones announced three console options for holiday 2024. They were one Series S configuration and two Series X configurations, not three new performance tiers. Sones described them as offering “the same speed and performance” as the current lineup, with more design, storage and price options.

| Xbox Series X – Galaxy Black Special Edition | 2TB SSD | Disc drive | Same Series X speed and performance, twice the storage and a special design; limited quantities in select markets | $599.99, estimated launch-era price |
These configurations and 2024 estimated US prices come from Xbox’s June 9, 2024 announcement. The figures are historical launch estimates, not current price quotes.
Is Xbox making a Series X Pro?
The June 2024 announcement did not include a more powerful Series X model. Xbox explicitly said the three options matched the current lineup for speed and performance, so the announcement supports calling them configuration changes rather than a Pro-style performance upgrade.
#1 Best Overall
- FASTEST, MOST POWERFUL XBOX — Experience next-generation performance with 12 teraflops of processing power, delivering smoother gameplay, richer worlds, and faster responsiveness than any previous XBOX.
- TRUE 4K GAMING UP TO 120 FPS — Enjoy breathtaking visuals with true 4K resolution, HDR, and frame rates up to 120 FPS, plus hardware-accelerated ray tracing for a heightened level of realism.
- 1TB CUSTOM SSD AND XBOX VELOCITY ARCHITECTURE — Reduce load times dramatically with the custom 1TB NVMe SSD and XBOX Velocity Architecture, enabling lightning-fast performance and seamless world streaming.
- QUICK RESUME — Seamlessly switch between multiple games and resume exactly where you left off. No more waiting through title screens and loading bars.
- FOUR GENERATIONS OF GAMES — Play thousands of games from XBOX Series X|S, XBOX One, XBOX 360, and Original XBOX, with many titles enhanced for better visuals and performance on XBOX Series X.
It does not establish that Xbox will never release a more powerful mid-generation console. A lack of a Pro model in that announcement is not a permanent roadmap guarantee.
How do the three models differ?
Series S Robot White: more storage in the compact model
The Robot White Series S was announced with a 1TB SSD. Xbox presented it as a higher-storage option in the compact Series S design. The announcement’s description does not identify a disc-drive change for this model.

Series X Digital Edition: Series X without an optical drive
The Robot White Digital Edition pairs a 1TB SSD with an all-digital setup. It keeps the Series X performance tier, but it has no optical disc drive; buyers should not treat it as interchangeable with a disc-based console if they rely on physical games or other discs.
Galaxy Black Special Edition: more storage, not more power
The Galaxy Black model has a 2TB SSD and a disc drive. Xbox said it had the same speed and performance as the existing Series X, so the larger capacity and special finish—not a performance boost—were its distinguishing features.

What do the models cost now, and are they still available?
The 2024 prices above should not be used as current prices. In a June 25, 2026 update, Xbox announced worldwide console price changes effective August 1, 2026: increases of US$100 for 512GB models and US$150 for 1TB models. Xbox also said it would sunset its 2TB model. The update does not give a complete current price or stock table for each 2024 configuration, so current availability and pricing need to be checked for the buyer’s region and retailer.
Xbox’s update also described financing options for eligible buyers, retailer-partner programs for previously played consoles, trade-ins for cash or store credit, and Xbox Certified Refurbished Consoles through Microsoft Stores for up to US$100 off MSRP. Eligibility and terms vary; these are not universal offers. See Xbox’s June 25, 2026 update for its stated changes and program details.

Which configuration should you look for?
- Choose by disc use: if you need an optical drive for physical games, the announced Digital Edition is not the right configuration.
- Choose by storage needs: the announced capacities were 1TB for the Series S Robot White and Series X Digital Edition, and 2TB for Galaxy Black.
- Compare the right price: the listed US prices are 2024 estimates. Check current local pricing and stock rather than assuming those prices—or the 2TB model—remain available.
- Treat appearance as a preference, not a spec upgrade: the white finishes and Galaxy Black design distinguish the models, but Xbox did not claim that they changed performance.
