“Is This a Reference?” is a Fence task in Escape from Tarkov that asks you to place 27 WI-FI Cameras across eight maps. The objectives are written as pop-culture clues rather than direct location names; use the checklist below to track each placement, and confirm the exact spot in your current game build because the clue list does not provide coordinates.
Unlocking the quest and getting the cameras
Tarkov.help lists the prerequisites as player level 25 and at least 1.0 Fence reputation (accessed October 8, 2026). Quest conditions can change between patches, so check Fence’s task panel in your current build if the quest is unavailable. Tarkov.help’s quest page provides the prerequisite listing.
The WI-FI Camera is a virtual quest item, not a real-world camera. TarkovHead lists 27 cameras as required and says they can be bartered from Mechanic LL1 or purchased from Mechanic LL1 after accepting “Informed Means Armed.” These acquisition conditions are game-economy details and may change with patches; check Mechanic’s current inventory and barter requirements before planning a purchase. TarkovHead’s WI-FI Camera entry lists the item and acquisition routes.
All 27 camera objectives, by map
Use the following as a map-by-map checklist. The task’s clues are deliberately cryptic; the available task references enumerate the objectives but do not establish precise placement coordinates for every clue. Tarkov.help describes examples on Customs, including a workshop shower with a mannequin and a green chromakey, but those examples are not enough to locate every camera precisely. Use the in-game clue and map context to identify each placement in your build.

- Install a WI-FI Camera at the little chair surrounded by big black chairs.
Lighthouse — 4 cameras
- Install a WI-FI Camera by your friend Wilson.
- Install a WI-FI Camera at the kindled rest place.
- Install a WI-FI Camera at the ominous welcome sign.
- Install a WI-FI Camera at the megagenius scientist’s seat.
Reserve — 3 cameras
- Install a WI-FI Camera at the place where conscripts did a very important task.
- Install a WI-FI Camera at the two chair riddle.
- Install a WI-FI Camera at every tank driver’s first videogame.
Customs — 3 cameras
- Install a WI-FI Camera at the bucket-head villain.
- Install a WI-FI Camera at Anvil 3-4 crew member’s execution site.

Factory — 7 cameras
- Install a WI-FI Camera in the room where the firefighter burned the books to become happy.
- Install a WI-FI Camera at the place where some valve technicians couldn’t finish their third project.

- Install a WI-FI Camera in the conspiracy theorist’s room.
- Install a WI-FI Camera near where someone thought he’d get transported to the magic school.

Woods — 1 camera
- Install a WI-FI Camera at the bear who sat into a flaming car.
Shoreline — 2 cameras

The map totals add up to 27 placements. The full clue sequence is listed by TarkovBox’s quest page; Tarkov.help also lists the task and examples of its location clues at its Fence quest entry.
What Fence’s dialogue tells you
Fence describes the job as surveillance at places that resemble references elsewhere, and says the client requested “maximum effort” and “207 bones in the human body.” The named outside client is not identified in the available task references, so the dialogue supports reading the task as a reference-hunting joke but does not confirm who commissioned it.

Rewards and patch caveat
A quest index lists 15,000 roubles, two Poxeram cold-welding tubes, and two metal spare parts as rewards. The current in-game reward panel was not independently confirmed, so treat that list as provisional and verify the reward shown in your build before completing the task for a specific payout. TarkovTracker’s quest entry lists those rewards.

Task references date their data to September 16, 2026, while game wikis and item listings may lag behind subsequent updates. Quest conditions, objective data, item acquisition routes, and rewards can change; the in-game task panel is the authority for the build you are playing.
