No official announcement that XCOM 3 is in development appears in the 2K materials reviewed through October 8, 2026. That does not prove the game has been cancelled—or that no unannounced work exists. It means 2K and Firaxis have not publicly confirmed it in the sources available here.
Has XCOM 3 been announced?
No. The official 2K announcements reviewed do not confirm that XCOM 3 is being developed. Public silence is not the same as a cancellation notice, so the most accurate status is that its development has not been publicly confirmed.

What has Firaxis announced?
In a February 17, 2023 announcement about Firaxis, 2K said the studio was developing the next mainline Civilization game and reported that former XCOM creative director Jake Solomon would leave the studio. The announcement did not say that XCOM had been cancelled or that Firaxis would never return to the series. Its Civilization news and staff change do not establish whether any unannounced XCOM project exists. Read 2K’s announcement.
Are Chimera Squad or War of the Chosen XCOM 3?
No. They are existing releases with different roles in the series, not announcements of a numbered sequel.

What would confirm XCOM 3’s status?
A direct announcement from 2K or Firaxis identifying a new XCOM game and its development status would settle the question. Until then, older franchise releases and studio news cannot establish whether a sequel is being made behind the scenes.
