Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsThe message means the Microsoft service handling your download cannot find an eligible Windows device on the Microsoft account currently signed in. Check account.microsoft.com/devices, make sure the target PC is listed under the same account used by Microsoft Store or Xbox, then allow up to 24 hours for a newly registered device to appear. If the account has 10 Store-linked devices, remove an old one, and verify that the game or app supports your version of Windows.
What “no applicable devices” means
This is an account-and-eligibility error, not a message that your computer has no hardware. Microsoft’s download service looks for a device associated with the signed-in account and then checks whether that device can receive the requested app or game. If it cannot find a matching device, it shows “It looks like you don’t have any applicable devices linked to your Microsoft account.”

Several conditions can produce the same message:
- The browser, Microsoft Store, or Xbox app is signed in with a different Microsoft account from the one associated with the Windows PC.
- The target Windows device is missing from the account’s Devices list.
- A device was registered recently and the account list has not synchronized yet.
- The Microsoft Store attachment limit has been reached.
- The app or game does not support the target Windows version.
- The requesting service has another entitlement or eligibility requirement that has not been met.
Windows 10 and Windows 11 devices are added to a Microsoft account automatically when you sign in. Surface devices can also be registered manually. Microsoft says a newly registered device can take up to 24 hours to appear in the account list.

| Check | What to look for | What the result means |
|---|---|---|
| Account identity | The email address shown on the Microsoft account, Store, and Xbox app | Every service involved must use the intended account; a different address can make a valid PC appear missing. |
| Device registration | The target Windows PC on the Microsoft account Devices page | If it is absent, the service has no device association to use for delivery. |
| Synchronization | Whether the device was registered within the last 24 hours | A recent registration may not be visible immediately. |
| Store device limit | Whether the account already has 10 attached Store devices | At the limit, remove an old device before adding or using another one. |
| Windows compatibility | The game or app’s supported Windows version compared with the target PC | An unsupported version can block delivery even when the device is listed. |
| Requesting service | Microsoft Store, Xbox app, or another Microsoft feature | Each service can apply its own entitlement or eligibility check. |
Step 1: Confirm the account and device association
- Open account.microsoft.com/devices.
- Sign in with the Microsoft account that appears in the Microsoft Store, Xbox app, or other service where you started the installation.
- Find the Windows computer you want to use. Check the device name and make sure it is the actual target PC, not an old computer with a similar name.
- If the device type supports manual registration and it is not listed, register it from the Devices page using Microsoft’s registration controls.
Do not assume that being signed in to Windows proves the Store is using the same identity. Compare the account address shown in Windows with the address shown by the Store or Xbox app. If you own multiple Microsoft accounts, sign out of the requesting service and sign back in with the account that owns the app, game, or subscription and that should contain the PC.

Step 2: Allow time for a new registration
A device can be correctly registered and still be unavailable to the installer for a while. Microsoft states that a newly registered device may take up to 24 hours to appear in the account list. If you registered the PC only recently, record the registration time and wait the full synchronization window before treating the absence as a failed registration.
- Keep the PC connected to the internet while waiting.
- After the window has passed, revisit the Devices page and refresh the account session.
- Start the installation again from the same account after the device appears.
Registering the same device repeatedly does not shorten the published delay. If the PC is still absent after 24 hours, continue with the account, device-limit, and compatibility checks rather than waiting indefinitely.

Step 3: Check the Microsoft Store’s 10-device limit
Microsoft’s current Store guidance limits an account to 10 attached devices. Old PCs, replaced hardware, or machines you no longer use can consume those slots. When the limit is reached, a new installation can fail even though the target computer itself is working normally.
- Open Microsoft Store device management for the account used to request the installation.
- Review the attached-device list and identify hardware you no longer use.
- Remove an obsolete device, taking care not to unlink the PC on which you still need Store content.
- Return to the game or app listing and try the installation again.
The 10-device figure is the Microsoft Store attachment limit described on Microsoft Support’s current guidance, accessed in 2026. It is an account limit, not a statement about how many PCs Windows can physically run or how many devices you own.

Step 4: Verify Windows and app compatibility
A listed device is not automatically an applicable device. Microsoft also checks whether the requested app or game supports the Windows version installed on that PC. Compare the requirements shown on the product’s Microsoft listing with the target computer’s Windows edition and version.
- If the listing requires a newer Windows version than the PC has, update Windows through the normal Windows Update process before trying again.
- If the listing excludes the PC’s Windows version, the account association cannot override that restriction.
- When several PCs are listed, select the one whose Windows version meets the product requirements.
Compatibility is separate from account ownership. You can be signed in to the correct account, see the PC on the Devices page, and still receive the message because the product is not offered for that Windows version.

Step 5: Match the service that is requesting the install
Microsoft Store
For a Store installation, verify the Store account first, then check the Devices page and the 10-device attachment limit. A Store account mismatch is common when Windows uses one Microsoft identity but the Store was switched to another.

For an Xbox app download, confirm the account shown in the Xbox app is the one that owns the game or has the required subscription entitlement. Also confirm that the same account contains the target Windows device. The Xbox app can surface the device-association message even when the underlying issue is ownership or another eligibility check.

Another Microsoft feature
If the request comes from a different Microsoft service, apply the same identity and device checks, then consult that service’s eligibility rules. The Devices page is still the authoritative first check for whether the account recognizes the Windows PC, but another service may impose an additional entitlement condition.
What to do when the device is listed but the error remains
Once the account address is correct, the PC appears on the Devices page, the 24-hour synchronization period has passed, the Store has fewer than 10 attached devices, and the Windows version is supported, the basic registration causes have been eliminated.
At that point, contact Microsoft Support and provide:
Recommended Free Tools
- The Microsoft account address used by the requesting service (do not post your password).
- The name of the target Windows device as shown on the Devices page.
- Whether the device was newly registered and when.
- The service that displayed the error: Microsoft Store, Xbox app, or another feature.
- The app or game title and the Windows version on the target PC.
- Whether you removed an old device because the account had reached 10 attachments.
Support can check an entitlement or eligibility problem that is not exposed by the Devices page. There is no physical product, adapter, or activation key required by Microsoft’s documented remedy for this message.
Common mistakes that prolong the problem
- Checking the wrong account: Looking at the Devices page while signed in with a personal account, then trying to install from a different work or family account, produces a misleadingly empty result.
- Ignoring the synchronization window: A registration made minutes ago may not be visible for up to 24 hours.
- Removing the wrong device: Unlinking the active PC instead of an obsolete one can create a new association problem.
- Skipping compatibility: Device presence does not make an unsupported Windows version eligible.
- Repeating registration: Re-registering without checking account identity, the device limit, and Windows requirements does not address those separate checks.
- Assuming every Microsoft service shares one eligibility rule: Store, Xbox, and other Microsoft features can apply different entitlement checks after the device association succeeds.
A concise recovery checklist
- Open account.microsoft.com/devices.
- Sign in with the account shown in the Microsoft Store, Xbox app, or requesting service.
- Confirm that the intended Windows 10 or Windows 11 PC is listed.
- Register the device if its type supports manual registration.
- Wait up to 24 hours if registration was recent.
- Open Microsoft Store device management and remove an old device if the account has 10 attachments.
- Check the game or app’s supported Windows version against the target PC.
- Retry from the same account and service.
- Contact Microsoft Support if all checks pass and the message continues.
Why these checks fix the error
The installer needs two things at the same time: an account-device relationship and permission to deliver that particular product to that particular Windows version. The Devices page confirms the first relationship. The synchronization period explains why a correct change may not be immediate. Store device management addresses the 10-device cap. Compatibility and service-specific entitlement checks determine whether the requested app or game can be delivered after the device is recognized.
