Hazelight Studios, the developer of It Takes Two, revealed Split Fiction at The Game Awards 2024. EA announced the two-player split-screen adventure for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC, with an initial release date of March 6, 2025. Since then, EA has also announced a Nintendo Switch 2 version.
What is Split Fiction?
Split Fiction is a cooperative action-adventure built around two players working together. Its protagonists, Mio and Zoe, are writers with opposing creative styles: Mio focuses on science fiction, while Zoe writes fantasy. They become trapped in their own stories after being connected to a machine designed to steal creative ideas.
To escape, they must cooperate as they move between their distinct worlds and master changing abilities. EA describes a mix of challenges that includes platforming, stealth, and puzzles, rather than one fixed style of play.
When did Split Fiction come out?
EA’s reveal announcement on December 12, 2024, set the game’s initial release date as March 6, 2025. The reveal named PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC as platforms; Nintendo Switch 2 was announced later.

What platforms is Split Fiction on?
EA’s current purchase page lists the EA app, Steam, Epic Games, Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation, and Xbox. The reveal platforms and the later Switch 2 announcement are distinct points in the release timeline: EA announced the Switch 2 version on April 2, 2025.
The Switch 2 version adds platform-specific features. EA says it supports GameShare for local play with one copy, along with GameChat; its announcement also describes Friend’s Pass and cross-play. Online cross-play requires an EA Account.

How does co-op and Friend’s Pass work?
The game is designed for two-player cooperation, with split-screen play locally or online. For online co-op, one person who owns the full game can invite a friend to join at no cost through Friend’s Pass. The invited player must install the pass. EA says persistent internet access and an applicable platform account are required; one full-game owner is enough for both players to access the entire adventure.
EA’s current game page describes cross-play across PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC. Platform-specific features and account requirements can vary, so check EA’s instructions for the version you plan to play.
