The sound-effects game is Hear Say, one of the five games in The Jackbox Party Pack 11. Players use a phone microphone to record prompted noises, vote on one another’s recordings, and hear winning sounds placed into new scenes. It is part of Party Pack 11—not the newer Party Pack 12.
How Hear Say turns phone recordings into a party game
Jackbox Games introduced Hear Say on July 22, 2025, as the fourth game in Party Pack 11. Players use a phone as a controller and, for this game, its microphone to make sounds that become in-game effects. Jackbox describes them as “real sound effects” made with a phone microphone.

Record a sound, then vote
The game begins with a calibration prompt. Players then receive a sound prompt—for example, “make the noise of a balloon deflating”—and record their attempts. Everyone listens to the results and votes for favorites. Winning recordings are reused in another context: Jackbox’s example takes the balloon sound and places it in a peaceful yoga studio.
The fun comes from both making the sound and hearing how it lands in the group’s new scene. Jackbox sums up the mechanic this way: “But in this one, you get to use the microphone on your phone to get real sound effects that work in the game!”

What else is in Party Pack 11?
Jackbox’s Party Pack 11 product page lists five games, covering several different kinds of group play:
- Cooperative trivia
- Social deduction
- A head-to-head joke-writing game
- Hear Say, for recording sound effects and dialogue with a phone
- A drawing game about fulfilling cookie-design orders
What you need to play
Jackbox says Party Pack 11 does not require extra controllers. Players join using a phone, tablet, or computer; Hear Say specifically uses a phone microphone for its recording mechanic. The publisher lists Windows, Mac OS, and Linux for its own store offer and says Jackbox games are also available on Xbox, PlayStation, Nintendo Switch, and other platforms.

Jackbox’s direct-code offer is limited to the United States, United Kingdom, European Union, Canada, and Brazil; the publisher directs buyers elsewhere to Steam.
Party Pack 12 is a separate collection
Jackbox announced The Jackbox Party Pack 12 on May 6, 2026, as another five-game pack. Its June 25 reveal named the games: We Forgot a Card, MegaPals, Idol Factions, Debate and Switch, and Hyperface. Hyperface uses a phone camera for photo editing; it is distinct from Hear Say, which uses a microphone.

As of October 8, 2026, Jackbox had scheduled Party Pack 12 for October 15, 2026, at a stated price of $29.99.
