If Windows says jmptojava.dll is missing or could not be loaded, repair the exact JMP or JMP Pro installation that is trying to start rather than downloading a replacement DLL.
The file is associated with JMP’s native Java and SAS-integration layer. It may appear beside jmp.exe in older folders such as:

Identify the JMP installation before repairing it
Do not begin by searching Windows folders for a generic copy of the DLL. First identify which JMP installation the shortcut or error is using.

| Check | What to look for |
|---|---|
| Installed product | JMP, JMP Pro, JMP Clinical, or an older SAS deployment |
| Executable | The full path to jmp.exe |
| Release | The version shown in Programs and Features or the application shortcut |
| Architecture | Whether that JMP process is 32-bit or 64-bit |
| Installation state | Whether jmptojava.dll exists beside the matching application files |
Find the version from Windows
- Press Windows key, type Control Panel, and open it.
- Select Programs → Programs and Features.
- Look for entries named JMP, JMP Pro, JMP Clinical, or an SAS/JMP deployment.
- Record the complete product name and version.
- If several entries exist, do not automatically repair the newest one. The broken shortcut may point to an older release.
To inspect the shortcut:
- Right-click the JMP shortcut.
- Select Properties.
- On the Shortcut tab, read the Target field.
- Note the folder containing
jmp.exe. - Open that folder in File Explorer and check whether
jmptojava.dllis present.
If the DLL exists, the problem may be a missing dependency rather than a missing file.
Fix 1: Repair the exact JMP installation
This is the most likely solution for a missing, deleted, corrupted, or mismatched jmptojava.dll.
Use the Windows repair option
- Open Control Panel → Programs → Programs and Features.
- Select the matching JMP entry.
- Click Change, Repair, or Modify, depending on what the installer provides.
- Keep the existing installation path and product selection.
- If the installer offers SAS software integration or Java components, select the components required by your JMP workflow.
- Complete the repair.
- Restart Windows.
- Launch JMP from the same shortcut that produced the error.
A successful repair should restore the file to the original JMP directory and allow jmp.exe to start. It may not place anything in System32, because this is a private application DLL.
Reinstall from an authorized JMP installer
If no repair option is available:
- Preserve any license information, deployment details, and JMP preferences before removing the application.
- Obtain the installer from your organization’s SAS software depot, the authorized JMP download area, or JMP support.
- Match the installer to the installed product and release as closely as possible.
- Right-click the installer and select Run as administrator.
- Choose the existing installation path if you are repairing that installation.
- Select SAS integration or Java-related components if your work requires SAS connectivity.
- Finish the installation and restart Windows.
- Test JMP before restoring optional customizations.
Older deployments may use a versioned software depot with a Windows setup program. Newer releases may use a single-file installer. Do not use a newer JMP installer merely because it is easier to find if the failing shortcut belongs to an older release.
If reinstalling fixes one shortcut but another still fails, inspect the second shortcut. Several JMP versions can coexist, and each may require its own matching files.
Fix 2: Check whether antivirus removed the file
Windows Security or another antivirus product may quarantine a legitimate application file after an update, disk scan, or changed detection rule.
- Open Start → Windows Security.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Click Protection history.
- Look for an event involving
jmptojava.dllor the JMP installation directory. - Check the detected file path and the originating product.
- Restore the file only if the path clearly belongs to the genuine JMP installation and the installation is trusted.
- If you are not certain, leave the file quarantined and repair or reinstall JMP instead.
- Start JMP again.
Restoring an isolated DLL can fail if the file was damaged or if related files were removed at the same time. A complete repair is safer than restoring a single file.
Do not add a broad exclusion for C:Program Files or the entire Windows drive. If an organization manages antivirus policy, ask its administrator to verify the detection before changing protection settings.
Fix 3: Determine whether a dependency is missing
A message saying “the specified module could not be found” does not always mean that jmptojava.dll itself is absent. Windows can display that message when a dependent DLL cannot be loaded.
First check the JMP folder:
- Open the folder containing the relevant
jmp.exe. - Search that folder for
jmptojava.dll. - If it exists, note its full path.
- Compare the folder and file set with the same JMP installation, not with another release.
If the error names a runtime such as MSVCP140*.dll or VCRUNTIME*.dll, install or repair the appropriate Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable. Match the runtime architecture to the JMP process:
- A 32-bit JMP process needs the x86 redistributable.
- A 64-bit JMP process needs the x64 redistributable.
- A 64-bit version of Windows can run a 32-bit JMP installation.
Open Settings → System → About to see whether Windows is 64-bit, but do not use that alone to determine JMP’s architecture. The application’s executable and release determine which runtime it needs.
If Java is mentioned, do not assume that installing a random Java package will recreate jmptojava.dll. Java supplies a runtime; jmptojava.dll belongs to the JMP installation. Repair JMP and select the relevant integration component instead.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
If the installer contains Visual C++ packages, prefer the packages supplied for that exact JMP release. For a current Microsoft runtime requirement, use Microsoft’s official Visual C++ Redistributable documentation and install only the architecture identified by the error or application.

Fix 4: Repair Windows components only as a secondary check
Windows component repair will not normally restore a private JMP DLL. It is useful when several applications show loader errors or Windows itself appears damaged.
- Open Start and type Command Prompt.
- Right-click Command Prompt.
- Select Run as administrator.
- Run this command:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
- Wait for DISM to finish.
- Then run:
sfc /scannow
- Wait until verification reaches 100 percent.
- Restart Windows.
- Test JMP again.
If DISM reports that it repaired the component store and SFC reports that it repaired corrupted files, retry JMP. If both commands report no integrity violations and jmptojava.dll is still absent, return to the JMP repair or reinstall step.
Repeating SFC and DISM without recording what changed makes this diagnosis harder. Outbyte PC Repair can perform a scan that shows detected system problems, while its repair functions require the full version; it is optional, and repairing or reinstalling JMP remains the definitive fix for this application file.

Fix 5: Check user configuration and permissions
If jmptojava.dll exists and JMP fails only for one Windows account, the problem may be damaged JMP configuration data rather than the installation.
Before resetting anything:
- Back up license information and any deployment files.
- Record custom preferences, scripts, add-ins, and connection settings.
- Close JMP and related SAS applications.
- Use JMP’s official removal or configuration-reset procedure for your release.
- Remove only the configuration data identified by that procedure.
- Sign out of Windows or restart it.
- Launch JMP again.
You can also test with another Windows profile. If JMP starts there, the application installation is probably intact and the original profile needs configuration cleanup.
Do not take ownership of the JMP folder or grant full control to every user as a first response. Those changes can hide permission problems while weakening the installation’s security.
Fix 6: Update drivers only when the error points there
jmptojava.dll is not a printer, graphics, audio, or motherboard driver. Driver updates are therefore not a normal fix. Consider them only if the full error identifies a graphics or device component, or if other applications are failing with driver-related messages.

Do not replace jmptojava.dll with a driver update. Outbyte Driver Updater can scan for stale drivers and show what needs attention, while driver installation through its full version is optional; it does not replace the need to repair the matching JMP installation.
What not to do
- Do not download
jmptojava.dllfrom a random DLL website. The file may contain malware, belong to the wrong JMP release, use the wrong architecture, or fail because another dependency is missing. - Do not copy the file into
C:WindowsSystem32orC:WindowsSysWOW64. - Do not mix
jmptojava.dllwithjmptojava92.dll,jmptojava93.dll, orjmptojava94.dll. - Do not copy a DLL from another computer unless it came from the exact same trusted JMP installer and release.
- Do not run
regsvr32 jmptojava.dllas a routine fix. This is an application-private file, and there is no JMP instruction requiring it to be registered. - Do not install only the x64 runtime because Windows is 64-bit. A 32-bit JMP process needs x86 dependencies.
- Do not remove every JMP version when only one shortcut is broken.
- Do not use System Restore before trying the matching application repair. System Restore is intended for broader system changes, not ordinary application-file recovery.
- Do not delete license files or preferences before backing them up.
FAQ
Is jmptojava.dll part of Windows?
No. It is associated with older SAS JMP installations and is not a Windows System32 component, Microsoft runtime, or standalone Java file.
Is it used by JMP Pro or JMP Clinical?
It can be present in older JMP and JMP Pro installations. The important question is which product and release owns the failing jmp.exe. JMP Clinical or another SAS deployment may use a different layout, so verify the executable path before repairing.
Can I fix the error by installing Java?
Usually not. Java may be one component used for SAS integration, but installing Java does not recreate a missing JMP DLL. Repair the exact JMP installation and select the required integration components.
Why does Windows say the specified module is missing when the file is present?
The loader may be reporting a missing dependency. Check the complete error for Visual C++, Java, .NET, or another named module, then repair that dependency with the matching architecture.
Should I register the DLL with regsvr32?
No. regsvr32 applies to DLLs that expose the required registration entry points. It is not a general repair command for jmptojava.dll.
What if reinstalling JMP still fails?
Collect the full error text, JMP product and release, Windows version, complete DLL path, whether the file exists, and any named dependency. Also note whether the failure affects all Windows profiles and whether antivirus recently quarantined a file. Give those details to JMP support or your organization’s SAS administrator.
