The charge was announced on 2 October 2026; it is an allegation, not a finding of guilt. Police say the alleged conduct took place between 31 May 2024 and 8 July 2026.
Who has been charged, and what is the allegation?
The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) announced on 2 October 2026 that it had authorised a charge against Joshua Kerry, 28, of engaging in conduct in preparation of terrorist acts, including against Nigel Farage MP. Counter Terrorism Policing says the charge is under section 5(1)(a) of the Terrorism Act 2006. CPS announcement; Counter Terrorism Policing announcement.
The CPS says its Counter Terrorism Division authorised police to charge Kerry following an investigation overseen by Counter Terrorism Policing. Chief Crown Prosecutor Frank Ferguson said prosecutors had reviewed the evidence and decided to prosecute; he also said they would continue working with police as the investigation progressed. That is the prosecution’s charging assessment, not proof of the allegation.
What do police say happened?
Counter Terrorism Policing dates the alleged activity from 31 May 2024 to 8 July 2026. Its charge announcement, and the CPS announcement, do not publicly describe the specific conduct, evidence, or an alleged motive. Deputy Assistant Commissioner Vicki Evans described the investigation as “hugely intensive and complex,” but did not provide further operational details in the announcement. How is this connected to the Ann Widdecombe murder case?
The CPS says Kerry had previously been charged with one offence of murder. Sky News reported that the alleged victim is former MP Ann Widdecombe and that the murder charge was brought on 20 July 2026. That is a separate charge from the terrorism-preparation count; the announcements do not establish a causal link between the cases. Both remain allegations. CPS announcement; Sky News report.
When is Kerry due in court?
The CPS and Counter Terrorism Policing said Kerry was due to appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on 7 October 2026. That date was still upcoming when the charge was announced on 2 October; the announcements do not report that a hearing has taken place. CPS announcement; Counter Terrorism Policing announcement.

What does the charge mean for the case?
The CPS stresses that its decision to charge is not a finding of guilt or criminal conduct: only a court can make findings of fact. It has also warned against reporting, commentary, or sharing information that could prejudice the active proceedings. The allegations should therefore be described as accusations unless and until established in court. CPS announcement.
