Jurassic World Reborn II (JWR II) is a large Minecraft 1.20.1 Forge pack built around dinosaur-focused exploration, breeding and survival. The current CurseForge listing identifies version 1.1.2, dated August 30, 2026. Plan for Java 17 or newer, 16–20 GB allocated to the client when your computer has that memory available, and at least 14 GB (16 GB recommended) for a dedicated server. Install the separate JWR II ServerPack for multiplayer; the client download is not a runnable server. Do not add OptiFine: the pack documents Oculus/Rubidium as its shader route and marks OptiFine incompatible.

What Jurassic World Reborn II includes

JWR II is not a small collection of dinosaur mods. The 2026 CurseForge listing describes more than 560 mods, including 108 prehistoric creatures from Jurassic Reborn and over 60 revivable creatures from Fossils & Archeology. Those numbers explain the demanding memory requirement, long first launch and substantial world-generation load.

The intended loop is a progression from discovery to husbandry: explore for fossils, extract DNA, incubate eggs, raise creatures and build habitats. The pack also extends exploration into dimensions and environments such as Twilight Forest, the Nether and the End. Because many systems register during startup and generate content while chunks are explored, a first launch or a new world can take considerably longer than a conventional Forge installation.

The current target is Minecraft 1.20.1 with Forge. The latest release identified in the project search result is JWR II v1.1.2, published August 30, 2026. Your server and every client must use the same pack release, Minecraft version and Forge loader; a seemingly compatible but different file set can still produce a mod-list mismatch.

Requirements at a glance

Item Published requirement or guidance What it means in practice
Minecraft and loader Minecraft 1.20.1 on Forge (current project target, 2026 listing) Create a 1.20.1 Forge profile rather than a Fabric, NeoForge or vanilla profile.
Latest listed pack JWR II v1.1.2, dated August 30, 2026 (CurseForge search result) Use this release only if the server files you obtain are the matching v1.1.2 set.
Client Java Java 17 or newer required (CurseForge project requirements) Point the launcher at a 64-bit Java 17+ runtime; an older Java executable can stop the pack before the title screen.
Client memory 16–20 GB allocated to Minecraft (project listing) Leave enough physical RAM for Windows, macOS or Linux and background programs. Allocating all installed RAM can cause swapping or an operating-system freeze.
Dedicated server memory 14 GB minimum; 16 GB recommended (project server section) Choose a machine or plan that can actually reserve this amount, not merely advertise it as burst memory.
Graphics/shaders OptiFine is marked incompatible; shaders are included through Oculus/Rubidium (project listing) Do not add OptiFine to the profile. Use the pack’s included graphics stack and its supported settings.
Multiplayer files Separate JWR II ServerPack containing mods, configs and a start script (setup guide) The client zip cannot substitute for the server pack.

Install the client with the CurseForge launcher

1. Install the launcher and select the correct profile

Install the CurseForge launcher, then create or select the Jurassic World Reborn II profile for Minecraft 1.20.1 Forge. A public server guide also identifies the CurseForge Launcher as required. If the launcher offers several JWR II files, check the displayed pack version against the server release before downloading.

2. Set Java 17 or newer

Open the profile’s settings and verify the Java executable. It must be Java 17 or a newer supported version, preferably a 64-bit build. If the launcher silently points to Java 8 or another old installation, the game may exit immediately with a class-version or unsupported-runtime error.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

3. Allocate memory without starving the operating system

Set the profile’s maximum memory in the launcher to 16–20 GB when the computer has sufficient physical RAM. This is the pack’s published client guidance, not a command to reserve that amount on every computer. A system with 16 GB total cannot safely give Minecraft 16 GB; reduce the allocation so the operating system, launcher, voice chat and other programs retain headroom. Close memory-heavy applications before testing a launch.

4. Launch once and let the profile finish generating

Start the profile once, even if you plan to join a server rather than create a world. The launcher must generate the instance directory, Forge files, configuration folders and first-run data. The initial load is unusually heavy because hundreds of mods register items, entities, recipes, dimensions and world-generation features. Wait for the main menu instead of force-closing the process merely because the window appears unresponsive.

5. Confirm the installation before joining

  • Check that the selected instance reports Minecraft 1.20.1 and Forge.
  • Confirm its JWR II release matches the server’s release exactly.
  • Keep the instance’s generated configuration files intact unless a pack maintainer specifically instructs you to change one.
  • Use a new test world only after the first menu load completes; world creation can add another long generation phase.

Graphics compatibility: why OptiFine fails

The project requirements explicitly state: “OptiFine: ❌ Incompatible with this modpack (shaders included via Oculus/Rubidium).” Treat that as a hard compatibility rule, not an optional performance suggestion. Adding OptiFine can cause a startup crash, missing-renderer errors, broken menus or a failure when a shader is enabled.

Remove OptiFine and any OptiFine-dependent add-ons from the JWR II instance. Use the Oculus/Rubidium components already supplied by the pack for supported shader features, and change visual options from the normal video-settings screens. If you already installed OptiFine, delete it, restore the instance to the pack’s original mod set and launch again before changing any other setting; otherwise several simultaneous changes make the cause difficult to identify.

Prepare a dedicated JWR II server

Hardware and resource planning

The project server section lists 14 GB RAM minimum and 16 GB recommended for optimal performance. It also gives an expectation of stable 20 TPS with multiple players exploring. That 20 TPS figure is the project’s stated expectation, not an independent benchmark, so chunk-generation load, view distance, CPU speed, storage and player activity still matter.

Server choice Advantages Risks and checks
Self-hosted desktop Full control over files, Java arguments, backups and upgrades; no recurring hosting plan. The computer must remain online, accept incoming connections and provide at least the published memory while also running the operating system.
Dedicated machine or virtual server Usually stays online and can be located near your players; resources are reserved for the game. Confirm that the plan’s usable RAM reaches 14–16 GB after the operating system and control panel overhead.
Managed modded-Minecraft host Web controls, automated restarts and often simpler backup management. Verify that it accepts a custom CurseForge Forge 1.20.1 server pack, permits file/configuration access and does not impose a lower memory cap.

Storage speed and free disk space also affect startup and exploration because the pack writes many configuration, region and cache files. Keep regular world backups before upgrades, and leave room for additional region files as players generate new terrain.

Download the correct files

  1. Open the JWR II files area and select the JWR II ServerPack that matches the client release. The project listing exposes a separate Minecraft 1.20 Server Pack.
  2. Download the archive to a clean server directory. Do not unpack it over an unrelated Forge server or an old JWR II installation.
  3. Do not use the client zip as a server. The setup guide says the ServerPack contains the server-side mod jars, configurations and a start script; the client archive is arranged for a launcher instance and is not a runnable dedicated server.

Install Forge and Java

Use Java 17 for the server as well as the client. If the ServerPack does not already include a complete Forge installation, run the Forge server installer for Minecraft 1.20.1 as described in the setup guide, selecting the clean server directory. Keep the installer, libraries and generated files in that directory so the supplied start script can find them.

Accept the EULA and complete the first boot

  1. Run the supplied start script once. The process may stop after creating initial files, or it may report that the EULA has not been accepted.
  2. Stop the process cleanly if it remains running, then open eula.txt and change eula=false to eula=true only after reading and accepting Mojang’s EULA.
  3. Start the script again and wait for the console to reach its completed Done state. Hundreds of mods must register on this boot; a long pause before the ready message is normal.
  4. Stop the server with its normal console command rather than closing the window, then configure backups, difficulty, view distance and access controls before inviting players.

Set memory arguments conservatively

Configure the start script or host panel so the server can use at least 14 GB, with 16 GB recommended by the project. A provider walkthrough may show a generic example such as -Xmx8G; that value is not the JWR II recommendation and should not be treated as sufficient for the published server target. Keep the minimum and maximum values consistent with the memory your machine can reserve, and leave operating-system headroom.

Let friends connect safely

Make the server reachable

For a home server, allow the Java server process through the operating system firewall and forward the server’s listening port from your router to the computer running Forge. Your friends need your public address and port, while you should avoid publishing administrative credentials. A managed host normally supplies a public address and handles the network edge for you.

Match every client to the server

Each player needs the same JWR II release, Minecraft 1.20.1 version, Forge loader and required client files. A client that has extra mods, missing mods or a different configuration can be rejected during the handshake even when its game launches successfully. Distribute the exact release identifier and have players update the complete profile rather than copying individual jars from another pack.

Use a whitelist and backups

Enable a whitelist if the server is reachable from the public internet, add players by their Minecraft names and keep operator privileges limited. Back up the world while the server is stopped or use a host’s consistent snapshot feature. Test restoring a copy before an upgrade; a backup that has never been restored is not a verified recovery plan.

Performance tuning for exploration

Watch TPS and memory together

Use the server’s diagnostic commands or host metrics to watch tick time, memory usage and CPU load while two or more players travel in different directions. The project’s 20 TPS expectation assumes a stable setup; dropping TPS during simultaneous chunk generation indicates that the server is processing more work than the current CPU, storage or settings can handle.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Reduce the expensive workload first

  • Lower view distance and simulation distance gradually if exploration causes sustained tick delays.
  • Ask players to explore in a coordinated area while the server generates terrain, then pre-generate regions during an off-peak period if your chosen tools and pack version support it.
  • Keep the published 14–16 GB memory target available; adding RAM cannot compensate for an overloaded CPU or an excessively high chunk radius.
  • Use fast, reliable storage and monitor free disk space as new dimensions and regions are created.
  • Do not add random “optimization” mods to a 560-plus-mod pack without checking compatibility. A change that appears helpful can alter registries or make clients and servers disagree.

Expect a slow first launch

Initial Forge startup registers hundreds of mods and may build caches before the console prints Done. Let it run for several minutes before assuming it has frozen. If disk activity and memory allocation are still changing, interrupting the process can leave incomplete generated files and create a second, harder-to-diagnose failure.

Troubleshooting by symptom

The client crashes before the menu

  1. Confirm the profile is Minecraft 1.20.1 Forge and the selected Java runtime is 17 or newer.
  2. Remove OptiFine and any add-on that requires it; restore the pack’s Oculus/Rubidium graphics setup.
  3. Check that the instance has the complete JWR II release rather than a partially copied mod folder.
  4. Reduce other running applications and verify that the allocated memory is realistic for the computer’s total RAM.
  5. Read the latest crash log for the first named mod or Java error. Fix that specific mismatch before changing unrelated settings.

The server exits immediately

  • Run the server with Java 17 and verify the script points to that executable.
  • Confirm that Forge was installed in the same directory as the ServerPack and that the script’s paths were not broken by moving files.
  • Check eula.txt for eula=true.
  • Review -Xms/-Xmx values and make sure the host can reserve the requested memory.
  • Read the first fatal error in the console rather than the final cascade of “server stopped” messages.

Players receive a mod-list or handshake error

Compare the exact pack release, Minecraft version and Forge build on the server and every client. Reinstall the complete matching profile when necessary; mixing a client manifest with a ServerPack, or copying only a few updated jars, commonly leaves incompatible registries and configurations.

The server appears stuck during startup

Wait for the completed Done message on the first boot. JWR II registers hundreds of mods and may spend several minutes generating data. If there is no CPU, disk or console activity for an extended period, then inspect the latest log for a Java, Forge, permission or memory error and correct that root cause before restarting repeatedly.

TPS falls when several people explore

Measure the problem while players are generating new chunks. Apply the project’s 14–16 GB server guidance, lower view or simulation distance, check CPU and storage saturation, and keep new exploration within a manageable radius. Treat the listed 20 TPS as a target expectation rather than a guarantee for every hardware and world combination.

Choosing self-hosting or a managed host

There is no single best hosting method. Decide by the resources and controls JWR II actually needs, not by a low headline price or a generic vanilla-Minecraft plan.

Decision point Questions to ask before choosing
Usable RAM Does the machine provide 14 GB minimum and preferably 16 GB to the Java process after the operating system and control panel overhead?
Forge 1.20.1 support Can you upload and run a custom CurseForge ServerPack instead of selecting only pre-approved packs?
File and configuration access Can you edit the start script, Java arguments, server properties, whitelist and mod configuration files?
Backups and restore Are backups automatic, retained for enough days and downloadable? Can you restore a test copy without overwriting the live world?
Location and latency Is the data center geographically close to most players, and does the provider disclose network limits?
Price and renewal What is the recurring price after any introductory period, and are extra RAM, backups or storage billed separately?

Self-hosting gives maximum control and can avoid a monthly fee, but it makes you responsible for port forwarding, uptime, security, backups and hardware failures. A managed host trades some control for a web panel and provider support; confirm the exact JWR II ServerPack workflow and memory allocation before paying.

Updating without breaking a world

  1. Record the current JWR II release, Minecraft version, Forge version and Java version.
  2. Stop the server normally and create a restorable backup of the world, configurations and server directory.
  3. Read the release notes for registry changes, required migrations or client-file changes.
  4. Install the new matching ServerPack in a separate test directory rather than overwriting the only working copy.
  5. Start the test server, allow all data generation to finish, and connect with a client running the exact new release.
  6. Only after the test succeeds, schedule downtime and move the live world or apply the documented upgrade procedure.

Never let clients update individually while the server remains on an older release. That creates avoidable handshake errors and can expose a world to untested registry changes.

What to expect in gameplay

Early play centers on finding fossil deposits and building the equipment needed to extract usable DNA. Incubation and egg raising turn discoveries into living creatures, while habitats and feeding arrangements become an ongoing construction task. The Jurassic Reborn roster supplies 108 prehistoric creatures according to the 2026 listing, and Fossils & Archeology adds more than 60 revivable creatures. The pack’s additional dimensions provide alternate exploration routes, but each new area also increases chunk-generation and storage demands on a shared server.

For a small group, agree on an exploration radius and a shared habitat location before everyone travels in different directions. That simple coordination reduces simultaneous chunk generation and makes it easier to protect fossils, eggs and breeding areas with regular backups.

Bottom line

Install JWR II as a Minecraft 1.20.1 Forge profile through the CurseForge launcher, run it on Java 17 or newer and allocate 16–20 GB only when your computer can spare it. For multiplayer, download the matching JWR II ServerPack, reserve at least 14 GB (16 GB recommended), accept the EULA, and wait for the first full Done startup. Keep every client on the identical release and loader, and leave OptiFine out because the pack’s supported shader path is Oculus/Rubidium.
