Just Create SMP runs on Minecraft 1.21.1 with the NeoForge modloader. The original project is release 0.5, while the Season 2 project is release 1.0.3. Install the exact client profile for the generation your group chose, then use its matching server-files ZIP on a dedicated server. A different Minecraft version, loader, or pack release can prevent the game from loading or keep players from joining.
Godlike.Host offers modded Minecraft server hosting with one-click modpacks, a built-in mod installer and up to three free backups a day.
What Just Create SMP is and which version to use
Just Create SMP is a Create-focused Minecraft modpack with a small set of quality-of-life (QOL) additions. The official project page describes the original as “Just Create and a few QOL mods in Minecraft SMP.” Its listed target is Minecraft 1.21.1 with NeoForge.

There are two distinct project generations. They are not interchangeable profiles: each has its own release number and server archive. Decide which one your community is using before anyone installs the game or rents a server.
| Project | Pack release | Minecraft and loader | Client file | Matching server archive | Release date |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Original Just Create SMP | 0.5 | Minecraft 1.21.1, NeoForge | Just Create SMP 0.5.zip | Just Create SMP 0.5 [Server Files].zip | July 4, 2025 |

Season 2 is presented as a lightweight Vanilla+ Create experience. Its description specifically calls out the Create: Post Production update and minor QOL enhancements, while avoiding heavy structures, an overwhelming technology tree, and heavy world generation. That makes it a sensible choice for a group that wants Create machinery without turning the entire world into a large technical pack.

For context, the official files page showed 618,310 downloads for the original project in 2025 metadata, and the Season 2 page showed 83,682 downloads in 2026 metadata. Those figures are page snapshots, not a promise of current activity or server population.
Why Minecraft version and NeoForge must match
A modpack is more than a list of individual mods: it also carries configuration files and expects a particular game and loader environment. CurseForge Support explains that a modloader loads mods and ensures they function properly. In this case, the required environment is Minecraft 1.21.1 plus NeoForge.
CurseForge also warns that incompatible Minecraft versions and loaders cannot be combined. Do not substitute Forge, Fabric, or a newer or older Minecraft profile simply because the launcher offers one. A client on the wrong loader may fail before the title screen; a client with a different pack release can show missing-mod errors or be rejected by the server.
- Every player should use Minecraft 1.21.1.
- Every player should select a NeoForge profile, not Forge or Fabric.
- Every player should install the same pack generation and release used by the server.
- The server must use the matching server-files ZIP, not a server archive from the other generation.
Original 0.5 or Season 2 1.0.3?
Choose the original project when
- Your existing world, community instructions, or friends already standardized on Just Create SMP 0.5.
- You are continuing a server created around the July 4, 2025 release.
- Your group has confirmed that its members already have the original client profile and does not want to migrate worlds.
Choose Season 2 when
- You are starting a new season and want the current listed Season 2 release, 1.0.3.
- You want the Create: Post Production update and the stated lightweight QOL-oriented design.
- Your players agree to use the JCSMP S2 Server 1.0.3 archive and the corresponding client release.
Do not assume that moving from 0.5 to 1.0.3 is a routine patch. The project pages list them as separate projects and separate server files. Treat a change of generation as a planned migration: make a backup, test the new profile on a copy of the world, and have every player update together.

How to install Just Create SMP on a client
The following workflow uses a launcher that can install CurseForge modpacks. The labels can vary slightly between launcher versions, but the checks are the same.
- Open the official project page. Select either the original Just Create SMP project or the Season 2 project. Open the files or releases list rather than downloading a similarly named third-party profile.
- Choose the exact release. For the original, select “Just Create SMP 0.5.zip.” For Season 2, select “Just Create SMP Season 2 – 1.0.3.” Record the choice so the server administrator can use the same generation.
- Install with a compatible launcher. Use the launcher’s install or import action for the selected pack. The launcher must support Minecraft 1.21.1 and NeoForge; a profile that installs under another loader is not equivalent.
- Verify the profile before launching. In the profile details, confirm that the Minecraft version reads 1.21.1, the modloader reads NeoForge, and the pack release matches the group’s decision. Check this after updates as well as after the first installation.
- Set the Java executable if required. CurseForge allows you to choose which Java executable the launcher uses. Leave the launcher’s compatible choice in place unless you have a specific Java-management reason to change it.
- Set memory before the first long session. CurseForge documents a 4GB (4096MB) default allocation for modpacks and recommends not lowering it below 4GB. Apply the setting, then leave enough memory for the operating system and other programs.
- Sign in when prompted. If the launcher opens the classic Minecraft authentication flow, use the Microsoft account that owns Minecraft. CurseForge notes that skipping the classic launcher does not remove the need for a Microsoft/Minecraft login.
- Launch once in single-player. Wait for NeoForge and the pack to finish loading, then reach the title screen or create a temporary world. This catches a broken download before you try to join the shared server.
Keep the profile isolated from other modded installations. Adding an extra mod, removing a bundled dependency, or changing configuration files can make your instance differ from the server even though the profile name looks correct.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsMemory and Java settings that are realistic for this pack
The documented baseline is 4GB/4096MB. That is a starting point, not a guaranteed performance target for every world. Player count, simulation and view distance, chunk activity, and large Create automation builds all affect memory and tick time.
| Situation | Practical approach | What to watch |
|---|---|---|
| New client with no symptoms | Keep the launcher’s 4GB default. | Loading times, crashes, and operating-system memory pressure. |
| Client stutters or reports memory-related crashes | Increase allocation in measured steps, only if the computer has spare RAM. | Whether the crash disappears without causing system swapping. |
| Computer becomes sluggish after raising RAM | Lower the allocation to a sustainable value; do not give the game nearly all system memory. | Operating-system paging and freezes. |
| Server slows as the community grows | Review view distance, simulation distance, loaded chunks, and automation before blindly adding RAM. | Server tick time, warnings in the server log, and the area where machinery is concentrated. |
Allocating more memory than the computer can support can make performance worse. Increase only after observing a reproducible workload, and change one setting at a time so you can identify the effect.

How to set up a dedicated Just Create SMP server
1. Download the matching server-files ZIP
Use the official files list and choose the archive that has the same release as every client. The original uses “Just Create SMP 0.5 [Server Files].zip.” Season 2 uses “JCSMP S2 Server 1.0.3.zip.” Do not rename a Season 2 archive to make it look like the original or combine files from both projects.
2. Extract into a clean directory
Create a new, dedicated server folder and extract the ZIP there. Keeping it separate from old worlds and unrelated modded servers prevents stale libraries, configurations, and saves from being mixed into the installation. The captured project pages confirm the archive names, but they do not expose the contents of their launcher scripts; follow the included launcher files and readme rather than using an unverified startup command.
3. Start once and accept the EULA
Run the included server launcher according to its readme. On the first start, Minecraft may stop and ask you to accept the EULA. Open the generated EULA file, review the terms, change the acceptance setting as instructed by the file, and start again. If the server stops for another missing-file or Java message, fix that message before changing gameplay settings.
4. Configure server.properties
After the first successful generation of the server files, edit server.properties for your group:

- Skins! We have biome settlers, city folk, town folk, and more!
- The Nether and all its inhabitants. Fight Ghasts and make friends with Pigmen
- Cross platform play for up to five players between Pocket Edition and Windows 10
- Revamped touch controls, controller support, and a controller mapping screen
- Enhanced Weather effects! Accumulating snow and more
- Port: Keep the default if it is available, or choose an unused port and expose that same port through the host or router.
- Difficulty: Select the level your players expect before opening the world.
- View distance: Start conservatively; larger distances increase chunk work for every player.
- Whitelist: Enable it for a private SMP and add each player’s account name before sharing the address.
- Operator access: Grant operator permissions only to trusted administrators. Use the minimum number of operators needed for backups, maintenance, and moderation.
Stop the server before editing properties, and restart it afterward. Keep a copy of the original file so you can identify which change caused a problem.
5. Create a backup before inviting players
Let the server generate its world, stop it cleanly, and copy the entire world directory and the server configuration to another storage location. Repeat backups before pack updates, major Create builds, and any change to world-generation settings. A backup made while files are actively being written may be incomplete, so use the server’s normal stop process first.
6. Give players one exact installation target
Send the project generation, release number, Minecraft version, and loader in the same message. For example: “Season 2, release 1.0.3, Minecraft 1.21.1, NeoForge.” Tell players to install the client profile and not add independent mods. A server cannot make a client’s loader or pack version correct after the player launches.

Modrinth’s server documentation identifies several deployment routes: Modrinth Servers, mrpack-install, and the itzg/minecraft-server Docker image. These are options for operators who do not want to maintain a home machine, or who want repeatable deployment and backups.
Best Value
- Play and share with friends on console, mobile and Windows 10
- discover community creations in the new in-game store
- access new mini games and game modes through servers
- Managed server: Choose a host that explicitly supports NeoForge on Minecraft 1.21.1, then upload or install the exact server pack. Verify loader support before paying for a plan; support for “modded Minecraft” in general does not guarantee this loader and version.
- mrpack-install: Useful when the pack is available in a compatible Modrinth-pack format and you want an installer to populate the server directory. Confirm that the resulting files correspond to the official release, including configuration files.
- Docker with itzg/minecraft-server: Suitable for operators who already manage containers. Pin the image configuration to NeoForge 1.21.1, mount persistent world and configuration storage, and test a restore before making the server public.
Regardless of deployment route, the operational requirements do not change: matching release files, persistent storage, EULA acceptance, firewall or port configuration, backups, and a Java runtime supported by the pack’s server launcher.

Joining the server and diagnosing common failures
| Symptom | Likely cause | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| Launcher profile shows another Minecraft version | The pack was installed into the wrong profile or updated independently. | Create or repair the profile so it explicitly reads Minecraft 1.21.1, then select the agreed release. |
| “Incompatible modded server” or missing-mod message | Client and server releases differ, or a mod was added or removed. | Compare the client pack name with the server ZIP name. Reinstall the exact release and remove unapproved additions. |
| Loader-related crash before the title screen | Forge, Fabric, or another loader was selected instead of NeoForge. | Install a NeoForge 1.21.1 profile and launch that profile, not a similarly named one. |
| Server stops during first launch | EULA has not been accepted, the included launcher has not been followed, or a required Java setup is missing. | Read the generated message, complete the EULA step, and follow the archive’s readme. Avoid substituting command lines from a different pack. |
| Players cannot connect from outside the host | Port is closed, the address is wrong, or the host does not expose the selected port. | Check the configured port, firewall, router or hosting-panel rule, and the address shared with players. |
| Game loads but becomes sluggish near factories | Large Create contraptions, loaded chunks, view distance, or player count are stressing the server. | Reduce view or simulation distance, spread machinery, unload unused areas, and observe server logs before allocating more memory. |
| Client crashes after adding a convenience mod | The extra mod is not compatible with this pack release or NeoForge build. | Remove the addition, restore the known-good profile, and only test extras on a separate copy. |
Keeping a Just Create SMP world maintainable
Standardize updates
Nominate one administrator to announce upgrades. Record the old release, new release, date, and backup location. Have at least one player test the updated client against a staging copy of the server before the whole group changes profiles.
Protect the world
Back up the world while the server is stopped, retain more than one historical copy, and store at least one copy away from the machine that runs Minecraft. Include server.properties and the pack’s configuration files so a restore reproduces the same rules.
Control access
Use the whitelist for a private SMP, keep operator privileges limited, and change the connection details if they are posted publicly. Make moderation and backup responsibilities clear before the first public session.
Measure before tuning
When performance deteriorates, note the number of players, their locations, view and simulation distances, and which Create machines are active. This is more useful than immediately assigning excessive memory, because tick load and chunk activity can be the limiting factors.
Original versus Season 2 at a glance
| Decision factor | Original Just Create SMP | Season 2 |
|---|---|---|
| Listed release | 0.5 | 1.0.3 |
| Listed Minecraft version | 1.21.1 | 1.21.1 |
| Listed loader | NeoForge | NeoForge |
| Matching server files | Just Create SMP 0.5 [Server Files].zip | JCSMP S2 Server 1.0.3.zip |
| Release date shown on project page | July 4, 2025 | August 23, 2026 |
| Design emphasis stated by project | Create plus a few QOL mods | Lightweight Create experience with Create: Post Production and minor QOL enhancements; avoids heavy structures, overwhelming tech, and heavy world generation |
The practical choice is the one your server has standardized on. Both generations list the same Minecraft version and loader, but their release files and included content are separate.
Bottom line
Install Just Create SMP only as a Minecraft 1.21.1 NeoForge profile, and match the server archive byte-for-byte by release generation: original 0.5 with its 0.5 server files, or Season 2 1.0.3 with JCSMP S2 Server 1.0.3. Keep the launcher’s 4GB memory starting point, adjust only after observing real load, and verify NeoForge support before choosing a hosted deployment. That combination prevents the most common installation and connection failures while leaving room to tune the server for your players and Create builds.
