kbdgeome.dll is a genuine Microsoft Windows keyboard-layout component for Georgian (MES), not a normal game runtime or Visual C++ library. If Windows says it is missing, not found, or cannot be loaded, repair Windows input components instead of downloading a replacement DLL.
What kbdgeome.dll does
kbdgeome.dll provides the Georgian (MES) keyboard layout. Windows loads keyboard-layout DLLs when the corresponding input locale is selected. Microsoft identifies Georgian (MES) with keyboard identifier 00030437.
| Item | Identification |
|---|---|
| File | kbdgeome.dll |
| Function | Georgian (MES) keyboard layout |
| Publisher | Microsoft Corporation |
| Product | Microsoft Windows Operating System |
| Windows role | Keyboard and input component |
| Typical location | %windir%System32, with architecture-dependent exceptions |
| Keyboard identifier | 00030437 |
Microsoft introduced this layout with Windows 8, and different Windows releases contain different builds. That means a file version seen on another computer is not necessarily the correct version for your installation.
The component is normally associated with Windows language and keyboard features. It is not a DirectX file, .NET assembly, Visual C++ runtime, game middleware file, or ordinary application DLL.

Errors associated with kbdgeome.dll
You may see wording such as:
- “The program can’t start because kbdgeome.dll is missing from your computer.”
- “There was a problem starting kbdgeome.dll.”
- “The specified module could not be found.”
- “The code execution cannot proceed because kbdgeome.dll was not found.”
- “kbdgeome.dll is either not designed to run on Windows or it contains an error.”
These messages do not necessarily mean that the program owns the file. An application can trigger the message while Windows is trying to initialize keyboard or language services in the background.
The important clues are when the problem started and where the file is located. Common causes include a damaged Windows component, removal of a language feature, an interrupted update, antivirus quarantine, disk corruption, or an application incorrectly requesting a Windows keyboard-layout file.
Fix 1: Add or reinstall Georgian (MES)
This is the most direct repair if the error began after removing a language or keyboard layout.
Windows 11
- Open Start > Settings.
- Select Time & language.
- Open Language & region.
- Under Preferred languages, select the relevant language.
- Choose the ** three-dot menu and select Language options**.
- Under Keyboards, select Add a keyboard.
- Choose Georgian (MES) if it is listed.
- Sign out or restart if Windows requests it.
If Georgian is not available:
- Return to Time & language > Language & region.
- Select Add a language.
- Search for Georgian.
- Install the language features.
- Open its Language options.
- Add the Georgian (MES) keyboard.
A full Windows display-language change is not normally required just to add a keyboard layout. The relevant keyboard feature is what matters.
Windows 10
- Open Start > Settings.
- Select Time & Language.
- Choose Language.
- Select an installed language and click Options.
- Under Keyboards, click Add a keyboard.
- Select Georgian (MES).
- Restart Windows or sign out and back in.
Afterward, press Windows key + Space and check whether the keyboard layout appears. If the original program now starts normally, the missing component was likely tied to an incomplete or removed language installation.
Fix 2: Repair Windows with DISM and SFC
If the file is absent from the Windows component directories, or reinstalling the keyboard does not help, repair the component store and protected system files.
- Open Start.
- Type
Command Prompt. - Right-click Command Prompt.
- Select Run as administrator.
- Run this command:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth
Wait for DISM to finish. It can remain at a particular percentage for several minutes. Do not close the window while it is working.
Then run:
sfc /scannow
Restart Windows when both commands finish.
DISM repairs the Windows component store that SFC uses as a source. SFC then checks protected system files and replaces damaged copies. Running SFC first can leave it unable to repair a file when the underlying component store is also damaged.

If SFC reports that it found corrupt files and repaired them, restart and test the program again. If it says that it could not repair some files, run DISM once more, restart, and run SFC again.
Outbyte PC Repair can reduce the manual work of repeating repair scans and tracking what changed. Its free scan shows detected problems, while repair actions require the full version; Windows DISM and SFC remain the appropriate built-in repair path.
If DISM reports that source files could not be found, complete pending Windows updates and restart. Microsoft also documents using a matching Windows installation source with /Source and /LimitAccess; the source must correspond to the installed Windows edition and build.
Fix 3: Finish Windows Update
An interrupted update or language-pack installation can leave Windows files and component metadata out of sync.

- Run DISM and SFC again using the commands above.
If an update repeatedly fails, use Windows Update troubleshooting from Microsoft, disconnect unnecessary USB devices, and make sure the system drive has sufficient free space. Do not try to solve an update-servicing problem by copying kbdgeome.dll from another computer.
Fix 4: Check Windows Security quarantine
Antivirus software can quarantine a system file after a detection or a suspected corruption event. Quarantine is a possibility, not proof that this particular file was malicious.
- Open Start.
- Search for Windows Security and open it.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Choose Protection history.
- Review entries matching the time the error began.
- Expand any relevant detection and inspect its path and action.
Do not immediately restore the file. First confirm that the detected path is a normal Windows component location and run a full Windows Security scan. If malware was detected, remove the threat before restoring any file.
If Defender identifies a genuine Microsoft-signed Windows file as a false positive, follow the action available in Protection History. Avoid creating a broad exclusion simply to stop the message. A restored file may be detected again if the underlying cause remains.
Fix 5: Check the path and digital signature
A file named kbdgeome.dll outside the Windows component directories is not automatically genuine. Malware can use a familiar Windows filename.

To inspect the file:
- Open File Explorer.
- Browse to the reported file location.
- Right-click
kbdgeome.dll. - Select Properties.
- Open the Digital Signatures tab if present.
- Select the signature and choose Details.
- Confirm that Windows reports a valid signature from Microsoft.
Also check the General and Details tabs for the product description and company information. Do not judge authenticity by the filename alone.
Microsoft documents keyboard-layout DLLs under %windir%System32, although 64-bit Windows may also use architecture-specific copies under SysWOW64. The exact path depends on the Windows release and installed components.
If the file is present but Windows says it is “not designed to run on Windows,” do not replace it with a newer-looking download. Check its path, signature, and integrity with DISM and SFC.
Fix 6: Repair the application that reports the error
A game or application may display the message even though kbdgeome.dll belongs to Windows. The filename alone cannot identify which program made the request.
After repairing Windows:
- Open the application’s official launcher or installer.
- Use its Repair, Verify files, or equivalent option.
- If no repair option exists, uninstall the application.
- Restart Windows.
- Reinstall it from the developer’s official source.
- Apply its current updates before launching it again.
If only one application reports the error while Windows keyboard switching works normally, the application may be incorrectly referencing the DLL or may have damaged installation files. There is no verified basis for claiming that a particular game requires this file.
Fix 7: Consider storage or filesystem corruption
If system files repeatedly disappear, Windows repairs keep failing, or other applications report damaged files, investigate the storage device.
First back up important documents and game saves. Then open Command Prompt as administrator and run:
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
chkdsk /f C:
Windows may tell you that the drive is in use and ask to schedule the check for the next restart. Type Y, press Enter, and reboot.

- On Fire TVs, navigate websites using just your remote. (No mouse/keyboard needed.)
- The browser features full-screen mode, zooming, text resizing, and quick access to favorites/bookmarks.

After the check completes, run DISM followed by SFC again. Repeated filesystem errors can indicate a wider storage problem, so do not rely on replacing individual DLLs.
Drivers and Device Manager
kbdgeome.dll is a keyboard-layout component, not a hardware driver. Reinstalling a keyboard or chipset driver in Device Manager will not normally restore it.
Use Device Manager only if you also have hardware symptoms such as a keyboard not being detected:

Do not download the DLL from a random website
Manual DLL download sites sites can provide malware, the wrong Windows build, or the wrong 32-bit or 64-bit architecture. A copied file may also bypass Windows servicing and signature validation, leaving the original corruption unresolved.
Use Windows Settings, Windows Update, DISM, SFC, or the official application installer instead. Microsoft does not provide a standalone official download page for kbdgeome.dll.
Do not copy a DLL between System32 and SysWOW64
64-bit Windows can maintain separate locations for 64-bit and 32-bit components. Do not substitute one architecture for another, and do not copy a file from another computer merely because the filename matches.

regsvr32 registers DLLs that expose registration entry points such as DllRegisterServer, typically for COM or ActiveX components. Keyboard-layout DLLs are loaded by the Windows input system and are not ordinary registration-based libraries.
Running commands such as these is therefore not a general repair:

regsvr32 /u kbdgeome.dll
Do not install unrelated runtimes first
Visual C++, DirectX, and .NET are not the normal source of this Windows keyboard-layout component. Install those runtimes only when the application provides a separate, specific error identifying one of them.
If DISM and SFC still fail
If the problem remains after language reinstallation, Windows Update, DISM, and SFC:
- Review the CBS log for the affected component.
- Retry SFC in Safe Mode if it cannot run normally.
- Check Windows Security for unresolved detections.
- Use System Restore if a restore point exists from before the failure.
- Consider an in-place Windows repair installation.
- Use Windows recovery options if the system has broader startup or servicing problems.
System Restore normally rolls back system files and settings without removing personal files, but it requires an available restore point. Back up important data before major recovery work.
FAQ
Do I need Georgian if I never type Georgian?
Not necessarily. If you do not use Georgian input, you can remove the Georgian keyboard feature after Windows is repaired. However, reinstalling it first can restore the missing component and confirm whether the error is tied to language servicing.
Why would a game mention a keyboard-layout DLL?
The application may initialize Windows input services, use a launcher with language detection, or reference the file incorrectly. The filename alone does not prove that the game ships with or depends on it.
Is kbdgeome.dll malware?
The genuine file is a Microsoft Windows component. A copy with an invalid signature, an unexpected path, or a recent antivirus detection deserves investigation. Scan the system before restoring anything from quarantine.

Should I install Visual C++, DirectX, or .NET?
Usually no. Those packages do not provide the Georgian keyboard-layout DLL. Repair Windows language features and protected system files first.
What if the file exists but the error continues?
Check its path and digital signature, then run DISM and SFC. A damaged dependency, incorrect application reference, architecture mismatch, or malicious copy can produce the same filename-based message.
Is there an official standalone download?
No official Microsoft standalone download page for kbdgeome.dll is identified. Restore it through Windows language features and Windows servicing rather than downloading the file separately.
