If Windows says kbdtt102.dll is missing, was not found, or could not be loaded, repair Windows or the Tatar language feature rather than downloading a replacement from a random DLL site.
Start with this diagnostic checklist
Before changing anything, note:
- Which program shows the message: Windows Settings, the sign-in screen, a language switcher, or a particular application.
- When it happens: at startup, when switching keyboard layouts, or only when selecting Tatar input.
- Whether Tatar is installed: open Settings > Time & language > Language & region and look for Tatar.
- Your Windows architecture: open Settings > System > About and check System type. It will identify a 64-bit or 32-bit installation.
The program named in the error is not necessarily the owner of the DLL. An application may trigger the message while Windows is trying to load the keyboard layout.
What kbdtt102.dll does
kbdtt102.dll supplies keyboard-layout tables used by Windows to translate keystrokes for Tatar input. Its metadata identifies Microsoft Corporation and the Microsoft Windows Operating System.
Windows normally keeps the file in a system directory such as:

C:WindowsSystem32C:WindowsSysWOW64for 32-bit system components on 64-bit Windows
The file is associated with the Windows input-language subsystem. It is not a Visual C++ Redistributable, DirectX, .NET, or game runtime dependency. Microsoft’s keyboard layout sample documentation explains that Windows loads layout DLLs for the corresponding input locale and uses keyboard-layout entry points such as KbdLayerDescriptor.
Fix 1: Repair Windows system components
This is the safest first repair when the file is missing, damaged, or fails to load. DISM repairs the Windows component store, and System File Checker then replaces missing or corrupted protected files.
Install updates first
- Press Windows + I.
- Select Windows Update.
- Click Check for updates.
- Install all available updates.
- Restart Windows, even if it does not ask you to.
Then run the repair commands.
Run DISM and SFC
- Open Start.
- Type
Command Prompt. - Right-click Command Prompt and select Run as administrator.
- Approve the User Account Control prompt.
- Run this command:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
- Wait for it to finish. Do not close the window if progress pauses.
- Run System File Checker:
sfc /scannow
- Wait until verification reaches 100 percent.
- Restart the computer.
A successful repair usually produces one of these outcomes:
- DISM reports that the restore operation completed successfully.
- SFC reports that it found and repaired corrupted files.
- The keyboard error no longer appears after restarting.
If SFC says it found corrupt files but could not repair some of them, run DISM again, restart, and run sfc /scannow a second time. If the message continues, proceed to the language repair below.

Fix 2: Remove and reinstall the Tatar keyboard
A damaged or incomplete language installation can leave Windows looking for a layout component that is not correctly installed.
On Windows 11
- Open Settings with Windows + I.
- Select Time & language.
- Select Language & region.
- Find the Tatar language entry.
- Select the ** three-dot menu** beside it.
- Choose Remove.
- Restart the computer.
- Return to Settings > Time & language > Language & region.
- Click Add a language.
- Search for Tatar.
- Select it and click Next.
- Install the required language features and keyboard layout.
On Windows 10
- Open Settings.
- Select Time & Language.
- Select Language.
- Select Tatar under Preferred languages.
- Click Remove.
- Restart Windows.
- Return to Settings > Time & Language > Language.
- Select Add a preferred language.
- Search for Tatar and install it again.

If you do not use Tatar, do not reinstall it. Remove the Tatar language or keyboard instead, restart, and check whether Windows stops attempting to load kbdtt102.dll.

Fix 3: Check antivirus quarantine
Security software can quarantine a legitimate system file after a detection or a damaged update.
- Open your antivirus or Windows Security application.
- Open Protection history, Quarantine, or Threat history.
- Search for
kbdtt102.dll. - Check the file’s original path.
- Check whether the file is digitally signed by Microsoft.
- Restore it only when it was located in a normal Windows system directory and the security product confirms the detection was a false positive.
- Restart Windows.
- Run DISM and SFC again.
Do not restore a copy downloaded from an unknown source. If the file appeared in a random application folder, desktop folder, or temporary directory, leave it quarantined and run a full security scan.
The filename is legitimate, but malware can replace or imitate a system file. The path, Microsoft signature, and security history all matter.
Fix 4: Check Windows language services
If the error occurs while changing keyboard layouts, confirm that Windows input services are running.
- Press Windows + R.
- Type
services.msc. - Press Enter.
- Look for Touch Keyboard and Handwriting Panel Service.
- Double-click it.
- Set Startup type to Manual or the existing Windows default.
- If the service is stopped, click Start.
- Click Apply, then OK.
- Restart Windows and test the keyboard switcher.
Do not disable Windows input services while troubleshooting. This step will not replace a missing DLL, but it can identify a separate input-subsystem problem.

Fix 5: Check Windows updates and drivers
kbdtt102.dll is not a conventional hardware driver, and replacing a keyboard driver will not normally repair this file. Still, an incomplete Windows update or a keyboard-device problem can make the symptoms look similar.
Check optional Windows updates
- Open Settings.
- Select Windows Update.
- Select Advanced options.
- Open Optional updates.
- Expand Driver updates if available.
- Install only updates that clearly match your keyboard or computer hardware.
- Restart.
Check Device Manager
- Right-click Start.
- Select Device Manager.
- Expand Keyboards.
- Right-click the affected keyboard.
- Select Update driver.
- Choose Search automatically for drivers.
- Restart if Windows installs an update.
Do not uninstall every keyboard entry as a first step. If the physical keyboard works and the error appears only when selecting Tatar, repair the language feature and Windows components instead.
Manually identifying an outdated driver across several hardware entries can mean guessing and repeating updates. Do not use regsvr32 for this file
regsvr32 is intended for DLLs that expose registration interfaces, commonly COM or ActiveX components. A keyboard-layout DLL is loaded by the Windows input subsystem and exposes KbdLayerDescriptor, not the normal DllRegisterServer interface.
Running commands such as these is therefore not a normal repair:
regsvr32 kbdtt102.dll
regsvr32 C:WindowsSystem32kbdtt102.dll
They can produce another error without repairing the underlying Windows component. Microsoft explains the purpose and syntax of regsvr32.
Do not download and copy the DLL
Downloading kbdtt102.dll from a DLL archive is risky because the file may have:

- The wrong Windows build
- The wrong 32-bit or 64-bit architecture
- An invalid or missing Microsoft signature
- A modified or malicious payload
- A version that does not match the local component store
Copying it into System32, SysWOW64, or an application directory can also leave Windows servicing inconsistent. A higher-looking version number is not automatically the correct version for your installation.
Use Windows Update, DISM, SFC, and the official Windows language settings instead. If Windows must be repaired, use Microsoft’s supported reinstall-the-current-version repair option.

When the commands fail, record the exact message and take these steps:
- Restart Windows.
- Resolve any Windows Update errors.
- Run DISM again.
- Run
sfc /scannowagain. - Review
%windir%LogsCBSCBS.logfor the affected component. - Check the disk if Windows also reports freezes, file corruption, or read errors.
- Use Windows Recovery if normal servicing cannot complete.
- Use Microsoft’s supported repair reinstall while preserving applications and files where that option is offered.
System Restore is a fallback when the error began immediately after a known recent change and a suitable restore point exists. It can undo applications, drivers, and settings installed after that restore point, so it is not the primary fix for this file.

“The code execution cannot proceed because kbdtt102.dll was not found”
Windows could not load the named file. The cause may be deletion, corruption, quarantine, or an incomplete language installation. It does not prove that the application named in the message owns the DLL.
“The specified module could not be found”
This wording can mean that the named DLL or one of its dependencies could not be loaded. It does not identify the underlying cause. Use DISM and SFC first, then repair the Tatar language feature if applicable.

“kbdtt102.dll is either not designed to run on Windows or it contains an error”
Treat this as possible corruption, an architecture mismatch, or an invalid replacement. Do not respond by downloading another copy.
The error appears only in one application
First determine whether that application is actually switching to Tatar input. If it is not, the program may simply be surfacing a Windows input error. Reinstall the application only when its official support documentation clearly identifies the file as part of that application.
