Why Keenan Allen is out of the Week 4 decision
Allen is listed OUT for the Colts’ Week 4 game against Washington at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London, scheduled for Sunday, October 4 at 9:30 a.m. ET, according to the NFL.com injury roundup. While that designation stands, he is not an eligible Week 4 start.
Why earlier advice said to start him
A September 30 NFL Fantasy start/sit article recommended Allen as a low-end WR2 or strong flex, citing 20 targets through his first three games and 18.3 fantasy points against Houston. Matt Okada, identified as NFL & Fantasy Content, wrote: “Allen has 20 targets through three games and just dropped 18.3 fantasy points on the Texans. Like teammate Josh Downs, Allen has a glorious matchup this week in London, making him a low-end WR2 or a strong flex.”
That advice appeared before the October 3 injury update. The later OUT designation is the relevant information for the lineup decision; the earlier favorable matchup and usage do not make Allen startable while he is listed out. How to choose your replacement flex
There is no universally correct replacement without knowing your league’s scoring, roster, and available players. Compare the eligible options you actually have, in this order:
- Check status and health. Prefer a player confirmed active. Do not replace an OUT player with someone whose availability is similarly uncertain if you have a viable active alternative.
- Compare expected opportunity and role. Look at the work each player is likely to receive in their offense, rather than relying on name recognition alone.
- Consider matchup. Use it as a tiebreaker among players with plausible roles; a favorable matchup cannot compensate for a player who is unavailable or unlikely to see meaningful opportunity.
- Fit the choice to your scoring format. The best option can differ between formats, so compare candidates using the rules in your league.
If you are choosing between two or more eligible candidates, weigh their confirmed status, expected role, matchup, and scoring fit together. The available information does not establish which specific alternative is best for your roster.
