Kena: Scars of Kosmora, Ember Lab’s sequel to Kena: Bridge of Spirits, has been delayed from its previously announced 2026 window to 2027. The developer says the additional time is for polishing the expanded game; it has not announced a specific release date.
When will Kena: Scars of Kosmora be released?
Ember Lab announced the new 2027 window on October 1, 2026, in a joint development update on the PlayStation Blog. The game was originally announced for 2026 in the studio’s February 12, 2026 announcement. Neither post gives a month, season, or exact launch date.
| Detail | What Ember Lab has announced |
|---|---|
| Previous window | 2026, in the February 12, 2026 announcement |
| Current window | 2027, in the October 1, 2026 update |
| Platforms and formats | PS5 physical and digital editions; PC digital |
| Exact release date | Not stated in the October 1 update |
| Preorder availability | Not stated in the October 1 update |
Why was the game delayed?
Ember Lab says it needs more time to polish the larger experience it wants to deliver. The October update says the sequel’s scope has expanded beyond Bridge of Spirits and describes the delay as a way to refine that experience. The studio does not identify a specific technical, staffing, or business problem as the cause.
The joint update is credited to Thomas Varga, Game Writer at Ember Lab, and Josh Grier, the studio’s COO. They wrote, “Pushing our release into 2027 gives us the ability to really polish the expanded game experience we want to deliver.”

What is Kena: Scars of Kosmora about?
Kena travels to the mysterious island of Kosmora seeking answers about her affliction and her path as a Spirit Guide. She has spent years studying the role, which combines the work of a warrior and a spiritual healer. Her childhood friend Orfio suggests that Kosmora may hold answers for them both.
The island is home to four interconnected cultures shaped by the elements, and one was destroyed in a mysterious cataclysm. Ember Lab describes the sequel as a character-focused linear adventure with a broader and deeper scope than the first game.

Companions and elemental abilities
In the February announcement, Ember Lab also introduced elemental Spirit Companions that travel with Kena, grow over time, and unlock powers. That announcement described Alchemy-based elemental abilities and combat. These are previously announced features, not new details from the delay update.
