KILL KNIGHT is a single-player isometric arcade shooter built around fast, aggressive combat and score-chasing. Its appeal is the way it asks you to attack, exploit enemy weaknesses, execute foes, and manage weapons and resources under pressure. Review coverage is positive overall, but critics also flag a steep learning curve and the possibility of repetition. If you enjoy mastering demanding combat runs, it looks like a strong fit; if you want a forgiving action game or a deep progression campaign, approach with more caution.
What is KILL KNIGHT like to play?
PlaySide’s game casts you as a betrayed knight banished to the Abyss, with the objective of killing the last angel. The official Steam description presents it as a fast top-down combat game in which positioning and timing matter as much as firing power.

The combat loop asks you to exploit enemy weaknesses, execute enemies, and tactically manage weapons and resources while building toward powerful attacks. It is designed for short, intense action and improving your command of its systems, rather than a sprawling story campaign. Steam quotes IGN describing it as “a whirling dervish of death, a high-speed mix of swords and gunplay, counters, and supercharged screen clears.”
The storefronts describe five hand-crafted arenas, challenge-based equipment unlocks, and leaderboards. The combined challenge has different names by listing: Steam calls it a mode combining the five layers into one longer challenge, while Nintendo calls it Master Mode.

What do reviews say about KILL KNIGHT?
Critic aggregation and player ratings are separate snapshots, not a single definitive verdict. When accessed on October 8, 2026, Metacritic showed an 88 Metascore, labeled Generally Favorable, based on eight critic reviews. At the same access date, Steam showed 93% positive from 1,818 all-time user reviews and 94% positive from 17 reviews in the preceding 30 days. Both Steam figures can change as reviews are added.
Review excerpts praise the hectic, responsive combat and presentation, while noting potential drawbacks. Checkpoint Gaming’s excerpt suggests that deeper progression might have helped reduce repetition. Hooked Gamers describes a steep learning curve and unforgiving difficulty that may frustrate some players. These are individual outlet observations, not guarantees that every player will have the same experience.

Is KILL KNIGHT hard?
Expect a game that rewards learning its combat systems rather than one that eases players in with a forgiving pace. The aggressive action, tactical resource decisions, and enemy weaknesses create a demanding loop, and Hooked Gamers specifically calls the learning curve steep and the difficulty unforgiving. That can be part of the attraction for players who enjoy refining their approach and chasing better runs, but it may be a poor match if you prefer a relaxed shooter.
Difficulty options are not described consistently across storefronts. Steam lists four difficulty settings; Nintendo’s Switch listing reports three. Check the listing for the version you intend to buy rather than assuming the options are identical across platforms.

Which platforms can you play KILL KNIGHT on?
The game is listed for PC, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X in GameSpot’s platform summary. Nintendo confirms a digital Nintendo Switch version on its US store and UK store. Steam gives October 2, 2024 as the PC release date and names PlaySide as developer and publisher.
Nintendo’s US listing says Nintendo Switch 2 compatibility is “Supported – Game behavior is consistent with Nintendo Switch.” That is a compatibility note for the Switch version, not a separate Switch 2 edition claim. Nintendo lists TV, tabletop, and handheld play modes. Its UK listing names the Nintendo Switch Pro Controller as compatible; it is optional, not required.

How should you choose a version?
There is no comparable performance analysis across platforms in the listed sources, so the practical choice is the hardware you already own and the current regional storefront listing. Before buying, compare the price and edition shown in your region, confirm the available difficulty and challenge-mode wording, and consider whether you want portable or TV play. Nintendo specifies the Switch play modes, while Steam lists a demo and Steam features; trying the demo can help you judge whether the demanding combat suits you.
Steam’s listing also includes the soundtrack as a digital product. The sources establish no physical edition, so check the relevant store for the products currently available rather than assuming a physical release.
