No. Defeating Godrick the Grafted does not, by itself, end the nearby NPC quests covered by the available walkthroughs. It advances several of them: Nepheli Loux and Sorcerer Rogier move to Roundtable Hold, Roderika has a Stormveil follow-up, and Gostoc remains involved in later Stormveil events if you keep him alive.
The important lockout is later. Nepheli’s final throne-room stage must be completed before you finish Crumbling Farum Azula and defeat Maliketh, according to the quest guides. That deadline is unrelated to killing Godrick.

What Godrick’s defeat changes
Godrick’s death is a progression point, not a blanket quest failure. The NPC stories most closely tied to Stormveil Castle continue through new locations and conversations. The distinction that matters is whether you defeated the boss or separately killed an NPC: those are different events with different consequences.
| Character or quest | Effect of defeating Godrick | What can still be done |
|---|---|---|
| Nepheli Loux | She appears at Roundtable Hold and gives the Arsenal Charm. | Her story continues through the Village of the Albinaurics and later returns to Stormveil. |
| Gatekeeper Gostoc | The guide places him near Godrick’s Site of Grace after the boss is defeated. | His later dialogue and throne-room sequence remain available if he is alive; he can eventually sell an Ancient Dragon Smithing Stone. |
| Kenneth Haight | The throne-room sequence is described as concluding his quest as well. | His earlier steps are optional to the Nepheli-and-Gostoc stage described by the guide. |
| Sorcerer Rogier | He relocates to Roundtable Hold. | His interactions can advance there. |
| Roderika | Her Stormveil memento follow-up is placed after Godrick’s defeat. | You can continue that interaction after returning to Roundtable Hold. |
This sequence is described by current walkthroughs rather than an official FromSoftware quest document. The cited pages show updates dated May 18, 2026, but the passages do not identify a specific game patch, so the steps below are best read as the behavior documented by those guides rather than as a patch-specific guarantee.

Nepheli Loux: the main quest people worry about
Before the boss
Nepheli can be met in Stormveil Castle and summoned for the Godrick fight. Summoning her is not required to preserve her story, but meeting her before the battle gives you the cleanest sequence: finish any conversation available in the castle, defeat Godrick, then check Roundtable Hold. The guide’s Nepheli walkthrough documents her pre-fight presence and her post-fight move.
If you skipped her before entering the arena, that omission is not the same as killing her or failing the quest. Defeating Godrick does not erase the character; it changes where the next interaction is found.
After Godrick: Roundtable Hold
Once Godrick is dead, Nepheli appears at Roundtable Hold. The documented reward for this meeting is the Arsenal Charm. Treat this visit as the next required checkpoint in her story: return to the Hold, locate her, and exhaust the available dialogue before moving on.
The Roundtable meeting is therefore evidence that the boss advances Nepheli’s quest rather than ending it. If you leave Stormveil immediately after the victory and do not see her, revisit the Hold and check that you have completed the castle conversation the guide expects; do not assume the quest has been cancelled solely because the first visit did not trigger.
Village of the Albinaurics
Nepheli’s story then moves away from Stormveil to the Village of the Albinaurics. Her later stage is tied to further progress, so the absence of an immediate Stormveil continuation does not mean you reached a dead end. Follow the Nepheli quest steps in order, using the village location as the next major destination after the Roundtable conversation.
The available guide treats the Albinaurics portion as part of the same quest, not as a replacement quest that becomes available only if Godrick survives. Killing the boss is already part of the documented route.

Return to Stormveil and the throne room
After the later Nepheli progression, the story returns to Stormveil. The throne-room sequence involves additional dialogue and an area reload. Gostoc and Kenneth are part of this later scene in the walkthrough’s ordering, which is why their status matters even though Godrick is already dead.

Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Do not interpret “return to Stormveil” as a requirement to keep Godrick alive. The castle’s later quest state is designed to occur after his defeat; the relevant requirement is progressing the NPC stories far enough and then allowing the area to update.
The actual Nepheli cutoff
The critical deadline comes much later: the Nepheli guide warns that her final throne-room stage must be completed before you finish Crumbling Farum Azula and defeat Maliketh. This is a late-game progression cutoff, not a Godrick lockout.
If you want to preserve every documented Nepheli step, complete the Stormveil throne-room stage before starting the endgame sequence that culminates in Maliketh. Defeating Godrick early in the campaign leaves ample room for that later requirement; rushing past Maliketh is the event the guide identifies as dangerous for the final stage.
Gostoc: keep him alive if you want his later reward
What happens after Godrick
Gamer Guides places Gatekeeper Gostoc near Godrick’s Site of Grace after the boss is defeated. His later dialogue, followed by an area reload, is part of the throne-room sequence described for the connected NPC stories. In that later state, Gostoc can sell an Ancient Dragon Smithing Stone.

Consequently, defeating Godrick does not remove Gostoc’s quest or shop opportunity. The decision that changes the outcome is killing Gostoc himself. If the Ancient Dragon Smithing Stone matters to you, leave him alive and complete the later Stormveil progression before making any hostile choice.

The 30% rune mechanic
The same Gamer Guides walkthrough says Gostoc takes 30% of the runes you drop each time you die in Stormveil. It also says those withheld runes can be reclaimed by killing him when he appears near Godrick’s Site of Grace after the boss. This is a gameplay mechanic reported by that guide, not an official statistic or a general rule about every death in Elden Ring.
That creates a trade-off:
- Keep Gostoc alive: you preserve his later dialogue and the documented Ancient Dragon Smithing Stone shop opportunity.
- Kill Gostoc: the guide says you can recover the runes he withheld, but you give up the later NPC interaction and shop opportunity tied to his survival.
Neither choice is caused automatically by Godrick’s death. They are consequences of what you do to Gostoc afterward.
Kenneth Haight and the throne-room sequence
A community wiki describes the Stormveil throne-room sequence as also concluding Kenneth Haight’s quest. The same account says Kenneth’s earlier steps are optional to the Nepheli-and-Gostoc stage. In practical terms, you do not need to treat every Kenneth objective as a prerequisite for safely killing Godrick.

If you are following all three characters together, use the later Stormveil return as the point to check their dialogue rather than expecting Kenneth’s story to end at the boss arena. His relationship to this sequence is another reason the post-Godrick castle state should be allowed to develop instead of being treated as finished content.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Rogier and Roderika after the victory
Sorcerer Rogier
Rogier relocates to Roundtable Hold after Godrick is defeated and can advance there. The move is a normal progression change: the next interaction is in the Hold, not a sign that the quest has failed. If you last spoke to him in Stormveil, make Roundtable Hold your first follow-up stop after the boss.
Roderika’s Stormveil memento follow-up
The walkthrough also places Roderika’s Stormveil memento follow-up after Godrick’s defeat. Her post-boss interaction is therefore another event that opens after the fight. Check Roundtable Hold and continue the available conversation rather than returning to Stormveil expecting the pre-boss state to remain.

A safe order for players who want every documented interaction
- Meet Nepheli in Stormveil. Speak with her before the boss and summon her if you want her assistance; summoning is not presented as mandatory for quest preservation.
- Defeat Godrick. His death advances the relevant NPC states and does not cancel the quests listed here.
- Return to Roundtable Hold. Find Nepheli for the Arsenal Charm, check Rogier after his relocation, and complete Roderika’s post-Godrick memento follow-up.
- Continue Nepheli’s route. Progress through the Village of the Albinaurics stage rather than waiting for another immediate Stormveil conversation.
- Preserve Gostoc if his reward matters. Do not kill him while deciding whether the Ancient Dragon Smithing Stone is worth more than recovering withheld runes.
- Revisit Stormveil for the later state. Follow the throne-room dialogue and perform the area reload described by the walkthrough so the connected NPC sequence can advance.
- Finish Nepheli’s final stage before Maliketh. The guide’s warning concerns completing Crumbling Farum Azula and defeating Maliketh, not defeating Godrick.
Common misunderstandings
“I did not see Nepheli after the boss, so I failed her quest.”
Not necessarily. Her documented post-Godrick location is Roundtable Hold, and her story then moves to the Village of the Albinaurics. Check those progression points before concluding that the quest ended.
“Godrick’s death removes Gostoc’s reward.”
No. The documented shop opportunity is tied to Gostoc remaining alive through the later Stormveil sequence. Killing the NPC is the relevant action that removes it.
“The 30% rune loss means I must kill Gostoc.”
That is a choice, not a requirement. The guide attributes the 30% withholding to Gostoc’s Stormveil behavior and describes killing him as a way to reclaim those runes. Keeping him alive preserves later content.
“Nepheli becomes unavailable as soon as Stormveil is cleared.”
The guide instead places her final cutoff before Maliketh. Clearing Stormveil and killing Godrick are earlier steps in the documented route; the late-game progression is the point at which you should stop and complete her throne-room stage.
Source scope and version caveat
The quest behavior summarized here comes from Gamer Guides’ NPC-quest walkthrough, its Nepheli-specific guide, and the Elden Ring Wiki entry for Nepheli Loux. The walkthrough pages show May 18, 2026 update dates, while the wiki is a community reference. None of the cited passages identifies a particular Elden Ring patch, and no official FromSoftware quest documentation is cited. If you have already killed Gostoc, attacked another NPC, or changed a quest through a separate action, that is a different situation from simply defeating Godrick.
Recommended Free Tools
For the documented Stormveil and Roundtable interactions, the practical answer remains consistent: kill the boss, then follow the NPCs into their next locations, keep Gostoc alive if you want his later shop, and complete Nepheli’s final stage before Maliketh.
