Killing Time: Resurrected gets a split, sample-dependent reception: Metacritic’s PlayStation 5 page lists a 65 Metascore from four critic reviews, while favorable scores highlighted by developer Nightdive praise the remaster. The main divide is between its restored presentation and atmosphere, and its old-school navigation and relatively easy combat.
What kind of game is Killing Time: Resurrected?
Killing Time: Resurrected is a retro first-person horror shooter set in a mansion on Matinicus Island. The player explores its rooms, faces supernatural enemies and deadly puzzles, and uncovers a mystery tied to an immortality ritual. Live-action apparition sequences contribute to the game’s distinctive presentation. Steam lists its release date as October 17, 2024.
What did the remaster change?
Nightdive describes a restoration focused on both presentation and recovered material. Its feature list includes 4K resolution, support for up to 144 FPS, restored live-action sequences, areas and enemies, and content cut from earlier releases. Steam also notes upscaled environment textures, smoother gameplay, more responsive controls, and expanded control and key-binding options. Players can toggle high-resolution character artwork from the 3DO and PC versions.
Those features matter to the reviews because the appeal is partly the game’s sense of place and vintage presentation, rather than a wholesale redesign of its exploration or combat. The restored material and configurable controls update how the game looks and feels; they do not remove the old-school approach to finding a way through the mansion.

What do critics say about the game?
Metacritic’s PS5 critic sample is mixed
Metacritic’s PlayStation 5 page reports a 65 Metascore from four critic reviews, with all four categorized as mixed. That is a small, platform-specific sample—not a score that represents every platform or a broad consensus across critics.
The review summaries point to a recognizable trade-off. One praises the upgrade and the game’s sense of place, but says searching for keys can interrupt momentum and combat can feel easy. Another characterizes it as an old-school game with little guidance, a style that will not suit everyone. Together, those comments suggest that atmosphere and restoration can land better than navigation and challenge.

Nightdive’s featured reviews are positive examples
Nightdive’s official page highlights scores of 9/10 from TechRaptor and ZTGD, and 8.5/10 from Destructoid. These are favorable reviews selected for the developer’s page, not an independent aggregate or a representative sample of all critics. They offer a positive counterpoint to Metacritic’s four-review PS5 snapshot, but the two sets should not be combined into a single average.
How do player ratings compare?
Store ratings are user feedback, not critic scores, and each belongs to a separate platform and sample.

Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. Is Killing Time: Resurrected worth playing?
It is most likely to appeal to players who enjoy retro horror shooters, atmospheric mansion exploration, live-action sequences, and uncovering a story without constant objective guidance. The remaster restores visual and gameplay features while adding control options, but the critical reservations identify the same friction points that can make an older design a poor fit: key hunting may slow exploration, and combat may not provide much challenge.
