To equip horse gear in the original Kingdom Come: Deliverance, first move it into your owned horse’s inventory. Then open the inventory’s Horse tab, choose Tack, select the item, and equip it. Transferring the item and equipping it are separate steps.
How to equip horse equipment
- Open your inventory and transfer the horse equipment item to your horse’s inventory.
- Open the Horse tab in the inventory.
- Choose Tack.
- Select the item you want and equip it.
This menu sequence is described in the game’s official community forum. The source does not establish one button prompt that applies to every platform, controller layout, or version, so use the on-screen prompt for your setup.
If you cannot find the Horse tab or your item
Check that the item is in the inventory of your owned horse, not merely in your own inventory or on a horse you encountered. The forum instructions rely on transferring the item to the horse’s inventory before opening Tack; they do not establish that every horse can be used for storage.
What counts as horse tack?
The community-maintained horse tack listing for the original game includes saddles, bridles, horseshoes, covers (also called caparisons), and horse head armor. It describes the gear’s broad effects as follows:

These are community-wiki descriptions, not official documentation, and they do not provide a complete item-by-item comparison. The wiki also lists a horse body-armor slot but says it knows of no body-armor item; that is a limit of the wiki’s knowledge, not a definitive developer confirmation. When choosing gear, compare the in-game item details against what matters to you: carrying capacity, speed, courage, protection, or appearance.

This procedure is for the original Kingdom Come: Deliverance, released in 2018. Kingdom Come: Deliverance II has its own controls and equipment details; a sequel guide, such as GameSpot’s February 3, 2025 guide, should not be treated as instructions for the first game. The original game’s community patch-note thread records changes including the addition of item categories to horse inventory, but the basic inventory-to-Horse-to-Tack procedure does not require assuming a particular patch.
