Kingdom Come: Deliverance II rewards preparation, practice and careful choices more than button-mashing. These 16 tips will help you handle combat, travel, skills and daily logistics as Henry finds his footing in 15th-century Bohemia. The game’s official descriptions emphasize that skills improve through use and that success depends on learning its combat systems—not luck (Deep Silver; PlayStation).

Learn the combat system before picking unnecessary fights

1. Find Master Tomcat if combat feels opaque

Warhorse recommends seeking out Master Tomcat near Pond Věžák in Trosecko for combat instruction. Learning from the in-game specialist gives you a more deliberate way to understand the mechanics than charging into repeated fights without a plan. This location and recommendation come from the developer tips published in February 2025 (Deep Silver’s developer tips).

2. Treat parries and combos as skills to practice

The publisher describes combat as requiring players to exploit enemy weaknesses, master parries and chain combos. Give yourself time to learn timing and openings; the official description does not promise a single move that works against every opponent (Deep Silver).

3. Choose weapons for your approach, not a supposed universal best

The official game page distinguishes swords for finesse from maces for brute force, and also highlights hand-to-hand combat, crossbows and firearms. The descriptions establish different styles, not a universally superior weapon. Try the approach that suits the situation and your preferences (Deep Silver).

  • This stunningly authentic rendition of 15th Century Bohemia allows you to experience this fascinating setting like never before. Get lost in a sprawling city, engage with peasants and talk with nobles while exploring a vast and rich countryside with taverns, bath houses, castles and more.
  • Feel the clash of steel and visceral combat as you engage in thrilling real-time battles. There’s a range of authentic weapons and combat styles to suit every player. On foot, horse or by stealth, you can specialise in elegant sword mastery, brutal blunt weapons or deadly ranged attacks.

4. Break contact when a fight is going badly

Retreating is a valid survival decision. Warhorse’s developer advice is to get away from a losing fight, prepare, and return when better equipped rather than continuing until Henry is overwhelmed (Deep Silver’s developer tips).

5. Use darkness to create an opportunity when outnumbered

Warhorse advises using shadows to regain control of a situation; enemies carrying torches may offer targets for arrows. Treat this as a tactical option, not a guaranteed escape or victory: whether it works depends on the encounter (Deep Silver’s developer tips).

Prepare Henry and his equipment for the next encounter

6. Check food, health and stamina before setting out

Warhorse’s travel advice calls out food, health and stamina as things to manage before a journey. A quick readiness check can prevent a trip from becoming harder because you left without attending to basic needs (Deep Silver’s developer tips).

7. Maintain weapons instead of waiting for them to fail

Weapon care matters: Deep Silver warns that a broken sword is lost, and notes that firearms also require maintenance. Make upkeep part of preparation, particularly before you set out expecting trouble (Deep Silver).

8. Stock useful alchemy before trying a difficult fight again

After retreating, Warhorse recommends improving readiness with alchemy potions as well as weapon maintenance. The advice is to prepare before the next attempt, not to assume a potion makes a bad engagement safe (Deep Silver’s developer tips).

9. Use the Fox potion for experience if you can brew it

The developer tips single out the Fox potion as a way to increase experience gained across activities, if brewed successfully. It is an optional progression aid; the source does not establish a guaranteed result if brewing fails (Deep Silver’s developer tips).

10. Take valuable loot rather than trying to carry everything

After a fight, prioritize valuable items and leave the rest. Warhorse explicitly recommends selecting loot rather than trying to take everything, a practical way to keep looting from turning into another burden (Deep Silver’s developer tips).

Use progression and social systems with intent

11. Build skills through use, teachers and quests

Henry’s skills level as he uses them, and the official game page also identifies teachers and quests as ways to learn. Let your activities shape progression, while seeking instruction when you want to develop more deliberately (Deep Silver).

12. Match your outfit to the impression you want to make

For a Charisma check, Warhorse scripter Josef Vachek advises dressing cleanly in high-Charisma clothing. For Dread, his advice is the opposite: bloodied, dirty armor. Clothing is part of how you present Henry, so consider the desired impression before a conversation or check (Deep Silver’s developer tips).

13. Set up clothing presets for different situations

Warhorse lead 3D character artist Anna Pačesová describes outfit sets for quickly switching among stealth, noble, hunter and warrior looks. Presets make it easier to change how Henry is equipped and presented without rebuilding an outfit piece by piece each time (Deep Silver’s developer tips).

14. Rent a pub bed to access connected storage

Warhorse programmer Petr Smrček recommends renting a legal bed at a pub. The connected chests let you store items and retrieve them elsewhere, giving you a way to manage belongings without carrying everything with you (Deep Silver’s developer tips).

15. Read the Codex as you explore

The in-game Codex fills in during exploration and provides setting context and illustrated lore. Check it as new entries appear to make sense of the world Henry is moving through (Deep Silver’s developer tips).

Understand saves without relying on assumptions

16. Learn the save system in-game and plan accordingly

In an interview published on March 28, 2025, Warhorse told GOG that it had made the save system more accessible without removing the tension associated with limited saving. That statement does not spell out every save condition or confirm behavior after later patches, so check the game’s current in-game instructions and avoid assuming you can save at any moment (GOG’s interview with Warhorse Studios).
