If an Xbox or PlayStation controller is not recognized in the Steam version of Kingdom Come: Deliverance II, PLAION’s recommended quick fix is to turn off the relevant global Steam controller support setting, then disable Steam Input for the game. These steps are for Steam; they are not established instructions for the Epic Games Store version.
Fix controller recognition in Steam
PLAION says the problem often occurs when Steam Input or Steam controller configuration is enabled. Its support article describes symptoms such as a controller not being recognized over a wired or wireless connection, Xbox button prompts appearing while using a PlayStation controller, and haptics or lighting appearing grayed out. Follow the steps for your controller type, then disable Steam Input for the game.
- Open Steam’s external gamepad settings. In Steam, go to Settings > Controller > External Gamepad settings.
- Change the setting for your controller. For a PlayStation controller, set PlayStation Controller Support to Not Enabled. For an Xbox controller, turn off Enable Steam Input for Xbox controllers.
- Disable Steam Input for the game. In your Steam Library, right-click Kingdom Come: Deliverance II, choose Properties > Controller, and set the Steam Input option to Disable.
- Recheck the symptom. See whether the controller is recognized and, if applicable, whether the prompts or haptics/lighting have changed. PLAION says the controller should then be correctly recognized, but this is troubleshooting guidance, not a guarantee for every setup. PLAION’s “Steam: Controller not recognized” support article has the official steps.
Which controllers does the PC version support?
PLAION’s technical FAQ says the PC version supports Xbox controllers, DualShock controllers over USB only, and DualSense controllers. It also says DualSense adaptive triggers and haptic feedback are supported. These are the publisher’s compatibility statements, not independent test results. See the PLAION technical FAQ.
What if you play through Epic Games Store?
The documented fix above is specifically for Steam. PLAION’s controller troubleshooting article does not provide equivalent Epic Games Store steps, so do not assume the Steam menus or settings apply there. If the controller still is not working, or your issue is not covered by the listed guidance, contact PLAION support.
