Kingdom Come: Deliverance II has the ingredients for a remarkable medieval RPG: a larger setting that includes Kuttenberg, quests designed to react to player conduct, and combat that aims to be easier to approach without losing its tactical depth. Those are promising directions, not a verdict on the finished game. This preview is grounded in hands-on sessions and developer interviews published in 2024, including a short session described by The Koalition.
What is Kingdom Come: Deliverance II about?
The sequel follows Henry of Skalitz through a 15th-century Bohemian civil war, continuing the first game’s personal revenge story alongside its political conflict. Publisher Deep Silver describes Henry’s journey from a blacksmith’s forge toward the royal court. The setting is grounded in historical research, but the developers also recognize that recreating the past involves interpretation rather than a claim of perfect historical accuracy.

Warhorse senior game designer Ondřej Bittner described that balance in an Xbox Wire interview: “The task of authentically recreating 15th century Bohemia for Kingdom Come: Deliverance II is one that’s part careful forensic work, and part respectful artistic interpretation.” Read the Xbox Wire interview or visit Deep Silver’s official game page.
What feels new in the preview?
A broader world with a major city
Kuttenberg, a major city, expands the setting beyond the first game’s rural environments. An Epic Games Store hands-on report described the two maps together as covering 25 kilometers of dense environments. That is the outlet’s reported figure, not an independent measurement. The more important promise is the contrast between a busy urban center and the surrounding countryside: a broader range of places for political maneuvering, exploration, and everyday encounters.

Quests that respond to what Henry does
Choices are meant to affect more than dialogue tone. Xbox Wire’s Gamescom preview says player behavior can open or close conversations and quest lines. In its example, sparing two aggressive men can lead them to help Henry later. An interview with Warhorse lead scripter Martin Ziegler also describes side quests with multiple approaches and NPC routines that respond to events such as violence or theft.
That makes reactivity one of the sequel’s most compelling possibilities: a decision can alter how people treat Henry, which can in turn change what options are available. It is a developer-described design goal and a previewed example, not proof that every choice produces a major branching storyline. Xbox Wire’s preview of character reactivity and Epic Games Store’s developer feature explain the intended approach.

Combat aims to be more approachable
Official material lists swords, maces, hand-to-hand combat, crossbows, and primitive firearms, alongside gear maintenance. At PAX West, MMORPG.com’s previewer reported that combat had been streamlined to make it easier to enter while retaining challenge and depth. That is a description of the preview build and the intended direction—not a guarantee that the changes will suit every player or make the system objectively better.

Is it worth playing if you missed the first game?
Warhorse says the sequel’s story was designed to stand on its own, with natural exposition reminding returning players of key events from the first game. Ziegler told Epic Games Store: “We crafted the story of the sequel from its inception in such a way that it also stands on its own and makes it easy for new players to jump right in, and we’re gently reminding players of the major plot points from the first game through natural exposition in the first several hours,”

That is a clear design intention, but not a guarantee that every newcomer will find all the political relationships or character histories immediately clear. Players who want the full emotional context of Henry’s continuing story may still prefer to play the original first. The developer interview on Epic Games Store is the source for the stated approach.

The 2024 previews provide bounded snapshots, not a full assessment. The Koalition explicitly noted that its hands-on time was short. The reports offer evidence of the game’s direction—world scale, combat adjustments, and examples of responsive quests—but do not establish the quality of a complete playthrough, final technical performance, or whether the systems stay engaging over dozens of hours.
