The “werewolf” turns out to be a false lead: the evidence points to human bandits.
How to unlock Hunting the Werewolf
The task belongs to the shepherd-task chain. One walkthrough says it unlocks after Sheep Among Wolves; the Gamer Guides task database lists it as available after Carrot on a Stick. Because those prerequisite descriptions differ, use the active task marker rather than relying on a rigid sequence. Where to find Herdsboy Natan
Look for Natan in the fields north of Semine and speak with him to start the investigation. His exact position can vary with the time of day, so follow the marker for the active task. He explains that sheep have been disappearing and suspects a werewolf based on the signs he found.
Find the arrow and follow the trail
- From Natan, travel north to the road and follow it northwest to a fork.
- Inspect the bloodied broken arrow lodged in a tree near the fork. This is the clue that starts the trail.
- If Mutt is with you, have him track from the arrow and follow him northwest into the woods.
- If Mutt is unavailable, follow the blood patches or continue northwest along the northernmost fork.
- Search just off the road, north of the trail, for a camp tucked among rocks.

Choose how to approach the bandit camp
There are three bandits at the camp. You can inspect the sheep without fighting, try to persuade a bandit to leave with one of two Speech checks, or fight the group. The bandits patrol, but the walkthrough describes them as not heavily armored. The reported reward differs depending on whether you leave them alive or kill them.

You can examine the butchered sheep before or after dealing with the bandits. Find the carcass on a rock north of the campfire. The task walkthroughs report these reward differences, rather than establishing that every playthrough will produce identical outcomes:

What completes the task
Inspect the butchered sheep on the rock, then return to Natan and report what you found. The carcass examination can complete the investigation objective whether you do it before or after confronting the bandits; the key is to report back to Natan.
