When does it release, and which platforms are included?
SQUARE ENIX announced an October 8, 2026 release for Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Microsoft Store on Windows. Nintendo’s US listing confirms that date for Switch 2. What does the collection include?
The collection groups three releases. Together they include numbered entries, side-story games, a movie, and HD cutscene compilations. Because some material is presented as a film or cutscenes rather than a playable game, and the official list names these three bundles rather than every series release, it is more accurate to call this a substantial collection than the complete Kingdom Hearts series.

These contents are listed by SQUARE ENIX and Nintendo. The cutscene compilations and χ Back Cover movie add story material, but they should not be mistaken for additional playable entries.

Is the Switch 2 version native, and what does that mean?
Yes. SQUARE ENIX describes the Switch 2 collection as native, non-cloud software. That makes it distinct from the earlier Switch cloud versions, which relied on streaming. It means the collection does not depend on cloud streaming to run, but it does not establish specific resolution, frame rate, loading times, or how performance compares in handheld and docked play.
Does the physical edition require a download?
Yes. SQUARE ENIX says an internet connection is required to download additional data for the physical version. The announcement does not specify how much data must be downloaded or which content is on the cartridge, so the physical format alone is not evidence that the full collection is playable offline. The collection is listed in physical and digital formats; the three constituent releases are listed as digital-only. What do the early Switch 2 impressions say about gameplay quality?
Nintendo Everything’s Gamescom preview reports roughly 15 minutes of handheld play each with HD 2.5 Remix and KINGDOM HEARTS III + Re Mind. Its writer described the sampled gameplay as responsive and favorable. For the sampled HD 2.5 material, the preview also noted widescreen presentation, clearer text, and improved audio. That preview does not establish full-release performance, a docked-versus-handheld comparison, or measured frame rates, resolution, load times, or battery life. The available evidence supports a cautiously encouraging first look, not a definitive claim about how every game performs across the collection.

Is there a demo, and does its save carry over?
SQUARE ENIX announced a free Switch 2 demo featuring two portions of KINGDOM HEARTS III + Re Mind: the opening through early Olympus, and a Toy Box section from its start through the middle. Can previous owners get a discount or transfer saves?
SQUARE ENIX announced a 50% discount on qualifying digital purchases for eligible owners of certain earlier digital releases. Eligibility depends on the specific title, platform, and storefront; the US collection page names owners of the prior Switch cloud collection and PS4 and Xbox One versions. Save-data transfer is narrower: SQUARE ENIX says players can transfer saves from the Switch cloud versions to Switch 2, but saves from other platforms are not supported for transfer. SQUARE ENIX announcement.

What should Switch 2 buyers weigh?
- Want the series on Nintendo hardware without cloud streaming? This is a native Switch 2 release, unlike the previous Switch cloud versions.
- Need every Kingdom Hearts release? The bundle covers three named collections, not every title in the franchise.
- Prefer a cartridge? The physical edition still requires an internet connection to download additional data.
- Choosing based on performance? The available hands-on report is a short handheld preview; it does not answer technical questions such as frame rate or docked performance.
- Already own an earlier version? Check local-store eligibility for the discount and note that only Switch cloud-version saves are stated to transfer.
