Square Enix cancelled development of KINGDOM HEARTS Missing-Link on May 14, 2025. The limited good news: the publisher said the Kingdom Hearts series will continue and that it is working on Kingdom Hearts IV. It did not say the cancellation changes KH IV’s story or schedule.
Why Square Enix cancelled Missing-Link
In its May 14, 2025 announcement, Square Enix said it had worked on developing and adjusting the game, but concluded it would be difficult to provide a service that players would find satisfactory over a long period. The publisher apologized to people who had been waiting for the game and thanked those who supported and assisted with its multiple closed beta tests. Game Informer reproduced the full statement, which was attributed to Square Enix; no individual speaker was named.

The cancellation ends plans for a game that was announced in 2022 for iOS and Android and had been expected to launch in 2024. Coverage described the planned game as a GPS-based action RPG, but Missing-Link never launched publicly, so that description refers to the cancelled concept rather than a released game.
What the announcement says about Kingdom Hearts IV
Square Enix said: “The Kingdom Hearts series will continue. We are hard at work on Kingdom Hearts IV.” That is the extent of the positive news in the cancellation announcement: the series is continuing, and the publisher said it was working on the next mainline game.
