Kingdom Hearts on Nintendo Switch is available only as cloud-streamed editions: you need a stable internet connection to play, and the games cannot be played offline. Square Enix ended sales on June 9, 2026, and has scheduled the cloud service to end on June 9, 2027, at 14:59 UTC. The company has announced a way to transfer saves to corresponding Nintendo Switch 2 digital editions, but compatibility with Nintendo Switch Online Save Data Cloud Backup is not established by the official information cited here.
Which Kingdom Hearts games are on Switch?
Square Enix released three individual cloud editions for Nintendo Switch: KINGDOM HEARTS HD 1.5 + 2.5 ReMIX, KINGDOM HEARTS HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue, and KINGDOM HEARTS III + Re Mind (DLC). They were also offered together in KINGDOM HEARTS INTEGRUM MASTERPIECE for Cloud. Nintendo’s US listing describes that collection as a digital bundle containing the three products. The US listing gives February 10, 2022, as its release date; Square Enix announced the Switch cloud releases on January 18, 2022.
These are not conventional game downloads that run entirely on the console. The Switch streams the games from remote servers, so access depends on a working connection and the continued availability of the cloud service.
What connection do you need?
Nintendo says cloud versions require a stable, high-speed internet connection. If the connection is unstable, play may disconnect after a few minutes. The Nintendo US listing for the collection puts the requirement plainly: “THIS GAME REQUIRES INTERNET CONNECTION TO PLAY. PLEASE TRY OUT THE FREE DEMO BEFORE PURCHASE.”

The free demo is the practical way to check whether streaming works on your connection before buying. Nintendo cautions that a successful trial does not guarantee your connection will remain stable in every later session. Square Enix likewise recommends a stable, persistent high-speed connection before trying its streaming demo.
Square Enix’s Japan support page adds region-specific demo details: it says a Nintendo Account and stable, always-on internet are required, and that the demo can be played up to twice. Each attempt is limited to 10 minutes, except HD 1.5 + 2.5 ReMIX, for which the limit is 15 minutes. Those time limits come from Square Enix Japan support; check the local storefront or support information for terms in other regions.
Rank #2
- Embark on the story of kingdom HEARTS, including an all-new chapter.
- over 140 musical tracks and 20 characters.
- play solo, together in co-op, or battle online in multiplayer
Can you play Kingdom Hearts on Switch offline?
No. The Switch editions are cloud versions, and the product listing explicitly requires an internet connection to play. A downloaded demo or locally stored save data does not let the game continue when the streaming connection or service is unavailable.
Will your Switch save data transfer to Switch 2?
Square Enix’s June 9, 2026 notice says players will be able to transfer saves from a Switch Cloud Version to a corresponding Nintendo Switch 2 digital version. The notice names these eligible digital editions:
Rank #3
- Embark on the story of kingdom hearts, including an all-new chapter
- Over 140 musical tracks and 20 characters
- Play solo, together in co-op, or battle online in multiplayer
- KINGDOM HEARTS HD 1.5 + 2.5 ReMIX for Switch or Switch 2.
- KINGDOM HEARTS HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue for Switch 2.
- KINGDOM HEARTS III + Re Mind for Switch 2.
- KINGDOM HEARTS Collection [I~III] for Switch 2.
The notice describes corresponding digital editions as the eligible transfer and discount path. The physical KINGDOM HEARTS Collection [I~III] is excluded from the discount. Owners of INTEGRUM MASTERPIECE for Cloud qualify for discounts on all the listed digital versions; owners of an individual cloud title qualify only for the corresponding digital version. The notice confirms the transfer plan but does not provide procedural transfer instructions.
Do not assume Nintendo Switch Online Save Data Cloud Backup supports these titles. Nintendo’s general FAQ explains its backup feature, but the official information cited here does not confirm compatibility for these specific games.
Rank #4
- Updated and reconstructed visuals to be far more realistic and richly textured vs the original game
- Upgraded models for each character, graphical updates for a more immersive environment
- Estimated gameplay hours: 40 to 50 per title
- Sound: Players will be able to choose between original sound and the new, re-arranged sound
How long will Kingdom Hearts Cloud Version work on Switch?
Square Enix’s discontinuation notice, dated June 9, 2026, says sales ended at 14:59 UTC that day. Existing owners can continue playing until the cloud service ends at 14:59 UTC on Wednesday, June 9, 2027. As of October 4, 2026, that service deadline is still in the future.
Continued access before that deadline is not a permanent offline entitlement: the games depend on the cloud service, and the announced end date sets a limit on Switch Cloud Version play.
