KRAFTON and NVIDIA’s collaboration produced two different kinds of AI character: PUBG Ally, designed to act as a voice-responsive squad teammate in PUBG: BATTLEGROUNDS, and Smart Zoi, AI-driven characters in inZOI’s life simulation. PUBG Ally’s public beta ran in Arcade Mode from June 17 through June 30, 2026; the sources available here do not confirm whether it can be accessed now. Smart Zoi’s concept and historical release context are documented, but its current feature status is not established.
What KRAFTON and NVIDIA announced
At CES 2025, KRAFTON announced Co-Playable Characters, or CPCs, developed with NVIDIA ACE and intended for the PUBG franchise and inZOI. CPC is the companies’ term for an AI character meant to cooperate and respond to a game’s context, rather than simply deliver fixed dialogue. It is product framing, not a universally established industry category. KRAFTON’s initial announcement is available in its CES 2025 CPC announcement.
The two applications have different jobs: PUBG Ally is conceived as a teammate who can interpret spoken requests and take in-game actions during a match; Smart Zoi refers to characters in inZOI that NVIDIA describes as agents able to plan, act and reflect. They are not one feature shared across both games.
How the PUBG Ally system works
KRAFTON’s engineering account describes a local pipeline that combines the player’s voice with live match information. Automatic speech recognition transcribes what the player says. A small language model interprets the request alongside a textual representation of the match, then produces either a spoken response or an action the game can carry out. A custom text-to-speech system handles spoken replies. KRAFTON says these components run locally and continuously during a match, rather than relying on a cloud model for the described implementation.

The system divides quick reactions from more deliberate interpretation. A behavior tree handles immediate movement, aiming and combat responses at game tick rate. The language model handles player intent, coordination and generated speech. KRAFTON said it chose a small local model partly because network and inference delays from cloud-hosted models were too slow for live squad communication. The model identified in NVIDIA’s technical account is a quantized Mistral-NeMo-Minitron-2B.
KRAFTON reported that the quantized model can fit on a GPU with as little as 8GB of total VRAM. That figure describes the model’s reported VRAM threshold, not a complete system requirement, a recommended graphics card, or proof that players need a hardware upgrade. The technical details and the team’s qualifications are in NVIDIA’s June 25, 2026 engineering Q&A.
What NVIDIA ACE contributes
NVIDIA ACE is a suite of technologies and developer tools for building game characters, with options for speech, intelligence and animation. NVIDIA describes both cloud and on-device paths; the PUBG Ally implementation outlined by KRAFTON is a local one. ACE is the underlying development technology, not a separate game mode that players install. NVIDIA’s overview is on its ACE for Games page.

What Smart Zoi is in inZOI
NVIDIA describes Smart Zois as inZOI characters that can plan, act and reflect on decisions, supporting different character dynamics within the simulation. Its 2025 announcement presented them as part of a community in which characters pursue life goals and react to their surroundings. KRAFTON’s FY2024 results presentation said inZOI entered Early Access in March 2025 and placed Smart Zoi in that release context. That historical material does not establish Smart Zoi’s exact current status, settings, or complete hardware compatibility. See the KRAFTON FY2024 and fourth-quarter 2024 investor presentation.
How the two characters differ

NVIDIA’s June 25, 2026 Q&A says PUBG Ally entered public beta in PUBG: BATTLEGROUNDS Arcade Mode on June 17 and was available through June 30, 2026. That was a limited, date-bounded beta, not evidence of continuing general availability. KRAFTON also described early development as constrained to the Sanhok map and AI Duo mode as part of its domain-adaptation work. Those prototype constraints should not be assumed to define every later build or the beta configuration.
What the announcements establish—and what they do not
The partnership moved from a CES 2025 plan for CPCs in PUBG and inZOI to a named PUBG Ally beta documented in June 2026. NVIDIA’s technical Q&A provides a concrete account of how that PUBG implementation was designed. For Smart Zoi, NVIDIA’s ACE material and KRAFTON’s investor presentation establish the concept and historical context, but not a current feature checklist or full compatibility statement.
Promotional claims should be read as attributed claims. In NVIDIA’s 2025 announcement, KRAFTON Deep Learning Division head Kangwook Lee called PUBG Ally and Smart Zoi the “world’s first CPC” built with NVIDIA ACE; that is his characterization, not an independently verified industry ranking. NVIDIA’s 2025 announcement is titled NVIDIA Redefines Game AI With ACE Autonomous Game Characters.
