Krafton announced an AI-first company strategy on October 23, 2025, including major AI infrastructure spending, employee access to AI tools, automation of work and a planned overhaul of its HR systems. The announcement does not establish that the company will automate hiring, performance reviews or termination decisions. “Dystopia” is an opinionated framing, not a finding supported by the available evidence.
What Krafton announced
At its internal KRAFTON LIVE TALK on October 23, 2025, CEO Changhan Kim outlined a mid- to long-term plan to make the company “AI-first.” It was a company-wide organizational strategy, not an announcement about a single game or feature. Krafton said it would apply AI across technology, organization and culture, including management and decision-making. Kim described the intended shift this way: “Starting today, KRAFTON will automate work centered on agentic AI, and employees will focus on creative activities and solving complex problems as we fully implement an AI-centered management system.” CHOSUNBIZ reported the announcement; its English article was AI-translated, so the English wording of quotations should be treated as a translation.
Investment and platform targets
Krafton announced plans to invest about KRW 100 billion in a GPU cluster and to provide about KRW 30 billion annually for employees’ use of AI tools beginning in 2026. The company said the employee-support budget would be more than ten times the scale of existing AI-service support. It also targeted completion of an integrated AI platform and data foundation in the second half of 2026. These are announced budgets and targets, not confirmation that the spending occurred or that the platform was completed. The Asia Business Daily also covered the plan.
What the company says it wants to achieve
Krafton’s stated rationale is that automating work will let employees spend more time on creative work, complex problem-solving and player experience. Kim said the strategy would “broaden growth opportunities for each individual employee” and expand creative efforts centered on players. A later Krafton Japan strategy release framed workflow automation as a way to redirect resources to creative game development, while describing physical AI and robotics as possible future applications. These are company goals and plans, not independently demonstrated outcomes.

Does “automated HR” mean AI will make employment decisions?
No such conclusion is established by the announcement. Krafton said it would overhaul its HR system and operating framework, introduce new systems and programs, and realign existing policies around AI. It also named an internal AI Learning Hub, AI Roundtable and AI Hackathon to support employee learning and AI use. That describes an AI-focused HR and organizational overhaul; the available reporting does not say that AI will decide whom to hire, how employees are evaluated, or who is terminated.
The distinction matters: changing HR processes to account for AI is not the same as delegating consequential personnel decisions to an automated system. The company’s broad reference to AI across management and decision-making does not, on its own, specify which decisions would be automated or how any such system would operate.

What later workforce developments show
Voluntary resignation program and hiring freeze
On November 13, 2025, PC Gamer reported that Krafton had launched a voluntary resignation program for domestic employees and described a company-wide hiring freeze, with exceptions for original-IP development and AI-related roles. PC Gamer relayed a Krafton representative’s statement to Business Korea that the program was not a workforce-reduction plan, but was intended to help employees decide whether to continue with the company amid AI transformation. The report does not establish that the AI strategy caused specific departures or job losses. PC Gamer’s report attributes the claims to the company and its reporting chain.
Headcount and organizational changes
Krafton’s 2025 corporate disclosure, published April 28, 2026, reported 3,061 full-time employees as of December 31, 2025. The filing also describes HR transformation, structural optimization, talent benchmarking and task-centric management. That figure is a dated headcount for the reporting group in the filing; it does not by itself show what caused the workforce program or how employment changed compared with a differently scoped figure. AI transformation engineer hiring
In March 2026, Seoul Economic Daily reported that Krafton was recruiting AI transformation engineers to identify tasks suitable for automation and develop solutions with employees in different divisions. The report described pilot hiring on three-month contracts, extendable based on performance. This is evidence of implementation activity, but it does not confirm completion of the company-wide AI platform targeted for the second half of 2026. Seoul Economic Daily reported the recruitment effort.

What is known—and what remains unverified
- Announced: An AI-first company strategy, a planned GPU cluster, annual employee AI-tool support starting in 2026, a target for an integrated platform and data foundation, and an AI-oriented HR overhaul.
- Reported later: A voluntary resignation program and hiring freeze with stated exceptions; a December 2025 full-time headcount in Krafton’s corporate filing; and recruitment for AI transformation engineers in March 2026.
- Not established by these sources: That automated systems make hiring, evaluation or termination decisions; that the AI-first plan caused specific job losses; or that the integrated platform was completed.
- Company position, not verified result: Krafton says AI should amplify creativity and redirect time and resources toward game development. In February 2026, Chief AI Officer Kangwook Lee told PC Gamer, “Krafton uses AI as a tool to amplify human imagination and creativity, not replace it.” That statement describes the company’s position, not proof of how the strategy affects work in practice.
