kyocerax.dll is an old Kyocera FS-Series printer-driver component associated with Windows NT 4.0, not a modern Visual C++, DirectX, .NET, or general Windows runtime file. If Windows 11 or Windows 10 says the file is missing, cannot be loaded, or is incompatible, the safest repair is to remove the obsolete printer software and install the correct driver for your Kyocera model.
Do not download a loose copy of kyocerax.dll and copy it into System32 or SysWOW64. That may introduce malware, use the wrong architecture, or leave the damaged printer installation unresolved.

Kyocera’s historical driver catalog lists separate Windows NT 4.0 packages for FS and KM printer families, including PCL and KPDL driver packages. A modern Kyocera KX, Universal, PCL, KPDL, or Microsoft IPP driver may not contain or use kyocerax.dll at all.
There is no good reason to expect current Windows 10 or Windows 11 to include this historical file as a normal system component.
Why Windows reports the error
The exact trigger cannot be determined from the filename alone. The message can appear when you:
- Print to an old Kyocera printer
- Add or remove a printer
- Start the Print Spooler
- Open an old Kyocera printer utility
- Run a legacy installer
- Launch software that still expects the Windows NT-era driver
- Connect to a printer shared by an older computer
Possible wording includes “kyocerax.dll was not found,” “the file is missing or corrupted,” “error loading kyocerax.dll,” or “the specified module could not be found.” These messages are not proof that the named file itself is the only problem.
“Specified module could not be found” can also mean that a dependency required by the DLL is absent. The file may be present but incompatible with the process architecture or the operating-system generation.
The most likely causes are:
- An old or damaged Kyocera printer-driver installation
- A legacy installer or utility being run on modern Windows
- A quarantined file from an old driver directory
- Corrupted Windows or printer-driver files
- A 32-bit legacy driver being used in an incompatible 64-bit environment
- An obsolete printer that no longer has a supported current driver
Fix 1: Identify the printer and reinstall its correct driver
This is the most important fix. Do not begin by searching for the DLL. Begin by identifying the exact printer model.
Step 1: Find the printer model
Check the label on the printer, its control-panel display, or the existing Windows printer entry.
In Windows 11:
- Open Start.
- Select Settings.
- Select Bluetooth & devices.
- Select Printers & scanners.
- Select the Kyocera printer.
In Windows 10:
- Open Start.
- Select Settings.
- Select Devices.
- Select Printers & scanners.
- Select the Kyocera printer.
Write down the complete model name. A driver for one FS-series model is not automatically a valid replacement for another.
Step 2: Check the Windows architecture
- Open Settings.
- Select System.
- Select About.
- Look at System type.
Most current computers use 64-bit Windows, but the historical kyocerax.dll is reported as a 32-bit module. That does not make it suitable for copying into a 64-bit Windows installation. A 32-bit legacy driver and a 64-bit modern driver are different packages, and the driver must match both the printer and Windows.
Step 3: Remove the old printer
- Return to Printers & scanners.
- Select the Kyocera printer.
- Select Remove or Remove device.
- Confirm the removal.
- Restart Windows.
If Windows refuses to remove it, stop the print queue first:
- Press Windows key + R.
- Type
services.msc. - Press Enter.
- Find Print Spooler.
- Right-click it and select Stop.
- Remove the printer from Printers & scanners.
- Return to Services.
- Right-click Print Spooler and select Start.
Step 4: Remove the old driver package if necessary
On Windows Pro, Enterprise, or Education editions:
- Press Windows key + R.
- Type
printmanagement.msc. - Press Enter.
- Expand Print Servers.
- Expand your computer.
- Select Drivers.
- Find the obsolete Kyocera driver.
- Right-click it and select Remove Driver Package.
- Confirm the removal.
If printmanagement.msc is unavailable, use the printer server properties dialog:
Free tools Windows power users keep installed
One-click scans. No signup required.
- Press Windows key + R.
- Type
control printers. - Press Enter.
- Select any printer.
- Select Print server properties from the toolbar or menu.
- Open the Drivers tab.
- Select the old Kyocera driver.
- Select Remove.
- Choose the option to remove the driver and driver package when offered.
Restart Windows again after removing the package.
Step 5: Install the official replacement
Use Kyocera’s official support and download portal. Select:

- The exact printer model
- Windows 11 or Windows 10
- The correct 32-bit or 64-bit architecture
- The recommended current driver family
Follow the installer’s instructions. Connect the printer only when the installer asks, unless its instructions say otherwise.
After installation, print a test page:
- Open Printers & scanners.
- Select the Kyocera printer.
- Select Printer properties.
- Open the General tab.
- Select Print Test Page.
If the test page prints and the old error does not return, the driver repair worked. If the installer still requests kyocerax.dll, it is probably an obsolete package rather than a missing modern Windows file. Stop using that installer and look for a supported driver or a generic print protocol.
If manually comparing many driver packages is taking longer than expected, Outbyte Driver Updater can scan for outdated or mismatched drivers and show what needs attention; its free scan identifies the problem, while the full version performs the driver installation. It is optional, and the exact Kyocera model-specific package remains the preferred source.
Fix 2: Check whether Windows Security quarantined the file
Quarantine is possible if the file existed in an old driver directory, but it is not established as the cause in every kyocerax.dll case.
Do not restore an unknown DLL simply because an old program says it is missing.
- Open Start.
- Type Windows Security.
- Open the app.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Select Protection history.
- Review recent detections.
- Expand any detection associated with the Kyocera driver.
- Check the file path, detection name, and source.
Only consider restoring the item if you can verify that it came from a legitimate Kyocera driver installation and the file has been scanned. In most cases, reinstalling the official driver is safer than restoring a loose file.
Do not create an antivirus exclusion to force an unidentified download to run. If Windows Security detected a file from a random DLL website, delete it rather than restoring it.

Fix 3: Repair Windows components with DISM and SFC
Use these commands when the problem began after system corruption, an update, or damage to protected Windows files. They are not a substitute for reinstalling an obsolete Kyocera driver.
Microsoft recommends running DISM before System File Checker.
Run DISM
- Open Start.
- Type
cmd. - Right-click Command Prompt.
- Select Run as administrator.
- Select Yes if User Account Control appears.
- Enter:
DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
- Press Enter.
- Wait for the operation to finish.
- Restart Windows if requested.
Run SFC
Open an elevated Command Prompt again and enter:
sfc /scannow
Press Enter and let the scan reach 100 percent.
Possible results include:
- Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violations: protected Windows files appear intact.
- Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files and successfully repaired them: restart and test printing again.
- Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files but was unable to fix some of them: run DISM again, restart, and repeat SFC. If it still fails, investigate Windows repair options rather than downloading the DLL.
A clean SFC result does not disprove a missing kyocerax.dll. Current Windows may not contain this historical printer-driver component in the first place.
If repeatedly running DISM and SFC is not identifying what changed, Outbyte PC Repair can scan for broader Windows problems and show the issues it finds; the free scan reports the condition, while the full version performs the repair. It is optional, and it does not replace installing the correct Kyocera driver.

- Double-click Print Spooler.
- Set Startup type to Automatic.

- Select Stop.
- Open File Explorer.
- Navigate to:

- Delete the files inside that folder, not the folder itself.
- Return to Services.
- Right-click Print Spooler.

An old Kyocera utility may explicitly request kyocerax.dll even when printing through a current driver would work.
Test the printer without launching the old utility:
- Open Notepad.
- Type a short line.
- Select File.
- Select Print.
- Choose the Kyocera printer.
- Print the page.
If Notepad prints successfully but the old utility still fails, the utility is the problem. Look for a current Kyocera utility or manage the printer through Windows instead.
If the legacy software is essential, install it only in an appropriately isolated legacy Windows environment. Do not copy the DLL into modern system folders to force an old program to start.
If the old installer has a Repair, Verify, or Repair files option, use that option before replacing files manually. A program repair can restore the complete driver package and its dependencies, whereas copying one DLL cannot.
Fix 6: Consider System Restore
System Restore is useful when the error began immediately after a known driver installation, update, or software change.
- Press Windows key + R.
- Type:
rstrui.exe
- Press Enter.
- Select Next.
- Choose a restore point dated before the problem began.
- Select Scan for affected programs if available.
- Review the changes.
- Select Next, then Finish.
- Allow Windows to restart.
System Restore does not normally remove personal documents, but it can remove drivers and applications installed after the selected restore point. If the printer works after the rollback, replace the old driver with a supported package rather than restoring the same failing installation.

Usually, no.
regsvr32 is intended for DLLs that provide COM registration functions such as DllRegisterServer and DllUnregisterServer. There is no reliable evidence that this historical printer-driver DLL is a self-registering COM component.

can produce an entry-point error. They do not recreate a missing driver package, install a printer queue, restore dependencies, or make a 32-bit legacy module compatible with 64-bit Windows.
Only use regsvr32 when the software vendor specifically documents that registration is required and provides the correct command for that component. It is not a general missing-DLL repair command.

What not to do
Do not download the DLL from a random website
Standalone DLL download sites can provide:
- Malware or tampered files
- A file from the wrong Windows generation
- The wrong architecture
- A mismatched version
- A file with missing dependencies
- A DLL that does not belong to your printer model
Even a clean-looking replacement often fails because the actual problem is an incomplete driver installation.
Do not copy it into both System32 and SysWOW64
The folder names are confusing on 64-bit Windows:
System32normally contains 64-bit system binariesSysWOW64contains 32-bit compatibility binaries
Copying a 32-bit historical printer DLL into both locations does not install a driver. It can create version conflicts and make later troubleshooting harder.
Do not install an unrelated Kyocera driver
Several Kyocera driver families can coexist, but a package for another model is not a valid substitute. Match the exact printer model, connection type, Windows version, and architecture.
Do not reinstall Windows first
Windows reinstallation is excessive when the cause is an obsolete printer driver. Remove the old package and install a supported driver first. Use System Restore or broader Windows repair only when the timing and symptoms suggest actual system corruption.
What if no current driver supports the printer?
Some older printers no longer have a current Windows 10 or Windows 11 package. In that case:

FAQ
Is kyocerax.dll a Windows system DLL?
It is a real historical DLL name associated with Windows NT-era Kyocera FS-Series printer drivers. It should not be treated as a normal Windows 10 or Windows 11 runtime component.
Is it malware?
The filename alone cannot prove whether a particular copy is safe. A file in an old, legitimate driver directory may be genuine, while a copy downloaded from an unknown website may be unsafe. Check its origin and prefer reinstalling the official driver package.
Should I install a Visual C++ or DirectX redistributable?
No. kyocerax.dll is identified as a printer-driver component, not a Visual C++, DirectX, or .NET runtime file. Installing unrelated redistributables is unlikely to repair the printer.
The Tool Desk
Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Why does SFC say everything is fine?
SFC checks protected Windows files. It may find nothing because kyocerax.dll is missing from an obsolete printer-driver installation rather than from the current Windows component store.
Can a 32-bit DLL work on 64-bit Windows?
Some 32-bit applications can use 32-bit DLLs through Windows compatibility layers, but a historical 32-bit printer component is not automatically compatible with a 64-bit driver stack. Install the driver package intended for your printer and Windows architecture.
When should I replace the entire printer driver?
Replace it when the driver crashes the spooler, repeatedly requests the obsolete DLL, cannot be installed on your Windows version, or is no longer supported. A current model-compatible driver is safer than preserving a broken legacy package.
When should I use System Restore?
Use it when the failure began immediately after a known driver or software change and a suitable restore point exists. Afterward, install a supported printer driver instead of returning to the same obsolete package.
