Start with this diagnostic checklist
Before replacing anything, establish what is failing:
- Does the message appear when Windows starts, when opening a scanning application, or when using Windows Scan, Paint, Windows Fax and Scan, or a Kyocera utility?
- Which Kyocera printer or multifunction device is connected?
- Is it connected by USB or across the network?
- Did the problem begin after a Kyocera driver update, removal, Windows Update, antivirus quarantine, disk cleanup, system restore, cloning, or an incomplete installation?
- Is Windows 10 or Windows 11 32-bit or 64-bit?
- Is the scanner visible in Device Manager or in Windows scanner settings?
kywuds10.dll is associated with the user-interface portion of an older Kyocera WIA scanner driver. It is not a Windows system DLL, Visual C++ runtime, DirectX component, or .NET file. The safest repair is to rebuild the complete Kyocera scanner package rather than download this one file.
What kywuds10.dll does
WIA, or Windows Image Acquisition, is the Windows imaging framework that lets compatible applications communicate with scanners. Kyocera manuals describe a WIA driver for acquiring images from supported Kyocera devices.
Public file records identify kywuds10.dll as a Kyocera WIA Driver or Kyocera WIA Driver UI component. Known records list a 32-bit build numbered 1.0.9.19, with reported sizes of approximately 0.18 MB and 0.19 MB. These records are third-party metadata, not an authoritative Kyocera specification.

The exact Kyocera models that use this filename have not been established from an official Kyocera file manifest. A current Kyocera package may contain a differently named replacement, so do not judge a successful repair only by whether the old filename returns.
A historical location resembles:
C:WindowsSystem32DriverStoreFileRepositorywiaky002.inf_x86_...kywuds10.dll
That is a staged third-party driver location. It does not mean you should copy the file into C:WindowsSystem32 or C:WindowsSysWOW64.
Fix 1: Reinstall the exact Kyocera scanner or WIA driver
This is the most likely fix and should be tried first.
Identify the exact device
- Look at the Kyocera printer or multifunction device for its model name.
- If Windows can still see it, press Windows key + X and select Device Manager.
- Expand Printers, Print queues, Imaging devices, and Universal Serial Bus controllers.
- Note the exact Kyocera model and any device with a yellow warning icon.
- For a network device, record its IP address or hostname from the device panel or printer settings.
Do not rely on a similar model number. Kyocera packages can differ between closely related devices and regions.
The Tool Desk
Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Download the correct package
- Open Kyocera’s official support portal in your browser.
- Select the exact printer or multifunction model.
- Select your Windows version and the matching architecture.
- Look for Scanner Driver, WIA Driver, or a combined TWAIN/WIA scanner package.
- Download the package intended for that model.
A printer-only driver may print correctly while leaving scanning unavailable. A TWAIN-only package may also fail to provide the WIA component that Windows Scan, Paint, or Windows Fax and Scan expects.
Remove the damaged package if necessary
Only remove the old package if the Kyocera installer or its support instructions call for it.
- Open Settings.
- Select Apps, then Installed apps.
- Search for Kyocera software and uninstall the relevant scanner or device package.
- Restart Windows.
- If the package remains listed, open Control Panel.
- Select View devices and printers.
- Select Print server properties from the toolbar or Printer properties menu.
- Open the Drivers tab and remove only the Kyocera driver associated with the affected device.
- Restart again if Windows requests it.
Do not remove unrelated printer drivers.
Install and test
- Right-click the Kyocera installer and select Run as administrator.
- Follow the installer prompts.
- For USB, connect the device when the installer requests it.
- For a network scanner, enter the device IP address or hostname when the WIA configuration asks for it.
- Restart Windows.
- Open Windows Scan, Paint, or Windows Fax and Scan.
- Select the Kyocera scanner and perform a test scan.
Success means the scanner appears and completes a scan without the kywuds10.dll message. If printing works but scanning does not, the printer driver is present but the scanner/WIA component may still be missing.

Outbyte Driver Updater can reduce the manual work of hunting through driver versions and checking which device package is stale; its free scan shows what it finds, while driver installation is handled by the full version. Reinstalling the exact Kyocera scanner package remains the definitive fix for this file.
Fix 2: Check whether antivirus removed the file
An antivirus event can leave the Kyocera driver package incomplete.
- Open Windows Security from the Start menu.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Select Protection history.
- Look for an event involving
kywuds10.dll, a Kyocera driver, or the DriverStore. - Expand the event and inspect the original path, detection name, and action taken.
Do not immediately restore the file. Verify that:
- The original path was inside a legitimate Kyocera installation or DriverStore directory.
- The file came from the official Kyocera package.
- The package has the expected vendor signature where available.
- The security product’s detection is demonstrably a false positive.
Microsoft’s Protection History guidance explains how to review and restore quarantined items. If the file came from an arbitrary download folder or the detection remains credible, leave it quarantined, run a full scan, and reinstall the Kyocera package instead.
Fix 3: Confirm the architecture and driver family
Known public records for this file identify it as 32-bit. A 64-bit Windows installation can still run a 32-bit Kyocera component through Windows compatibility support, but that does not make a random 64-bit replacement appropriate.
Check your Windows architecture:
- Open Settings.
- Select System, then About.
- Read System type under Device specifications.
When downloading the Kyocera package, match the Windows architecture shown by the installer or support page. Also verify that you selected the correct package type:

- WIA driver: Windows imaging applications and WIA-compatible software.
- Combined package: may provide more than one scanning interface.
A generic Windows driver can sometimes print but not expose the Kyocera scanner correctly.
Fix 4: Check the WIA service and device detection
If reinstalling the package does not make the scanner visible, check Windows’ scanning service.
- Press Windows key + R.
- Type
services.mscand press Enter. - Find Windows Image Acquisition (WIA).
- Double-click it.
- Set Startup type to Automatic or Automatic (Delayed Start) if appropriate for the installed configuration.
- If the service is stopped, select Start.
- If it is running, select Restart, then Apply and OK.
Next, inspect the device:
- Press Windows key + X.
- Select Device Manager.
- Expand Imaging devices, Cameras, Printers, and Universal Serial Bus controllers.
- Select View, then Show hidden devices.
- Look for the Kyocera scanner or an unknown device.
- Right-click the affected entry and select Properties.
- Read the message under Device status and note any error code.
For a USB scanner, try another USB port and reconnect the cable directly to the computer. For a network scanner, confirm that the computer and Kyocera device are on the expected network, then open the Kyocera WIA configuration and register the device by IP address or hostname if required.

Microsoft documents WIA-service initialization as a cause of applications failing to find scanners in its scanner troubleshooting guidance.
Test more than one application. If Windows Scan fails but Paint can scan, the problem may be limited to the original scanning application. If every WIA application fails, continue repairing the driver and Windows components.
Fix 5: Repair Windows components with DISM and SFC
Use these commands after rebuilding the Kyocera package, not instead of it. They repair protected Windows components and cannot recreate a missing Kyocera driver package.
- Open Start.
- Type Command Prompt.
- Right-click Command Prompt and select Run as administrator.
- Run:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
- Wait for it to finish.
- Then run:
sfc /scannow
- Restart Windows when both commands complete.
- Test the scanner again.
Microsoft recommends running DISM before SFC in its System File Checker instructions.
Outbyte PC Repair can reduce the guesswork of repeatedly running repair commands by showing what its free scan finds; repairs are performed by the full version, and it is not a substitute for reinstalling the Kyocera driver.
If SFC reports files it could not repair, install pending Windows updates, restart, and run the two commands again. If the kywuds10.dll error remains but Windows reports no component problems, return to the model-specific Kyocera installation.
Fix 6: Use System Restore after a recent change
If scanning worked before a driver update, Windows Update, or software removal, System Restore may reverse the change.
- Press Windows key + R.
- Type
rstrui.exeand press Enter. - Select Next.
- Choose a restore point from before the error began.
- Select Scan for affected programs if available.
- Confirm the restore point and select Finish.
- Let Windows restart and complete the process.
System Restore normally affects system files, drivers, settings, and installed programs rather than personal documents. Microsoft explains its scope in the System Restore guide.

Do not copy the DLL or use regsvr32 as a guess
Downloading a standalone kywuds10.dll from a random DLL site is risky. The file may contain malware, have the wrong version or architecture, lack the correct signature, or fail because a dependency, INF file, catalog, registry entry, or companion driver is also damaged.
Quick wins for a faster PC:

C:WindowsSystem32C:WindowsSysWOW64- A game or application directory
- An arbitrary download folder
Also do not assume this command repairs the problem:
regsvr32 kywuds10.dll
regsvr32 works with DLLs that expose the appropriate registration entry point, such as DllRegisterServer. There is no evidence that this Kyocera WIA UI component should be manually registered. The command may produce an entry-point or module-load error and distract from the damaged driver package.
Microsoft explains the purpose and limitations of regsvr32 in its command documentation.
Installing Visual C++ Redistributables, DirectX, or .NET solely because the filename ends in .dll is also not justified here.

If the error still appears
Collect these details before contacting Kyocera support:
- Exact Kyocera model
- Windows edition and architecture
- USB or network connection
- Full error text
- Whether the scanner appears in Device Manager
- WIA service status
- Kyocera package name and version
- The path of any remaining
kywuds10.dll - Device Manager error codes
- Relevant Event Viewer entries
If the file is outside a Kyocera driver location, has no expected vendor provenance, or triggers a security detection, scan the computer and do not replace it manually. If no restore point exists and Windows itself is damaged, use Microsoft’s documented Windows recovery options.

FAQ
Is kywuds10.dll part of Windows?
No evidence identifies it as a Windows component. It is associated with the Kyocera WIA scanner-driver software.
Is kywuds10.dll 32-bit or 64-bit?
Known public records identify the reported builds as 32-bit. Use the exact Kyocera package for the device and Windows architecture rather than searching for a separate replacement DLL.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesWhich Kyocera model installs it?
No reliable official model list confirms every device that uses this filename. Identify the connected model and install its current scanner/WIA package.
Why does Windows say the specified module could not be found?
The named file may be missing, but the message can also mean that a dependency cannot load or that the driver package is damaged.
Can I fix it with SFC?
SFC can repair protected Windows files. It does not normally restore a removed Kyocera WIA package, so reinstall that package first.
Does the printer driver include the scanner driver?
Not necessarily. Printing and scanning packages can be separate, and a TWAIN package is not automatically the same as a WIA package.
Should I register the DLL with regsvr32?
Normally no. Reinstall the complete Kyocera driver package instead.
