In Larix Broadcaster, use a connection URL formed from YouTube’s server URL, a slash, and the current stream key: rtmp://a.rtmp.youtube.com/live2/STREAM_KEY. Replace STREAM_KEY with the key shown for the selected stream in YouTube Studio; do not use the example text literally. The key is private, like a password.
Copy the right URL and stream key from YouTube Studio
- In YouTube Studio, select Create → Go live to open the Live Control Room.
- Open the Stream tab, then create or select the stream you intend to broadcast.
- Copy the stream URL and stream key currently displayed for that stream. YouTube’s encoder setup uses the URL as the server address and the key as the stream-key credential. See YouTube’s encoder-stream instructions.
Use the current values shown in Studio—not a key copied from an old setup or an example. A key belongs to your channel’s stream configuration. Anyone with it may be able to send a broadcast to your stream, so do not post it, send it to others, or include it in a screenshot.
Add the YouTube destination in Larix Broadcaster
- Open Larix Broadcaster’s settings or connection list and add a connection. The precise screen labels can vary by app version and operating system.
- Give the connection a recognizable name, such as YouTube Live.
- In Larix’s Connection URL field, enter the YouTube server URL, followed by a slash and your exact stream key:
rtmp://a.rtmp.youtube.com/live2/STREAM_KEY - Replace
STREAM_KEYwith the key you copied from Studio. Keep the server path and slash in place; do not include spaces or extra punctuation. - Save the connection and make it the active destination before starting the broadcast. Larix’s documented URL format combines the server/application address and key; see Softvelum’s Larix-to-YouTube setup article and Larix documentation.
- Start broadcasting from Larix and check the Live Control Room for an incoming signal and preview. For a scheduled stream, review the preview and select Go live in Studio when ready.
To finish, stop the Larix broadcast and end the stream in YouTube’s Live Control Room as appropriate for your stream workflow. For scheduled streams, YouTube documents stopping encoder output and ending the stream in Live Control Room.
RTMP or RTMPS: which URL should Larix use?
| Option | What it means | What to enter |
|---|---|---|
| RTMP | The standard server URL shown by default in YouTube’s Live Control Room. | Use the URL shown for the selected stream and append a slash plus its current key in Larix’s connection URL. |
| RTMPS | RTMP protected with TLS/SSL, encrypting the connection to YouTube’s servers. YouTube recommends it when the encoder supports it. | In YouTube Studio’s Stream settings, use the lock control beside Stream URL and copy the RTMPS URL YouTube provides. Use that URL only if your installed Larix version supports RTMPS. |
Do not turn an RTMP address into RTMPS by changing the letters yourself. Copy the address YouTube supplies, including the required server and path details. Larix’s published connection guidance describes the combined URL format, but does not establish RTMPS support across every current Larix version and operating system. Check the capabilities of your installed app. YouTube’s RTMPS guidance also notes that a protocol or URL mismatch can cause a timeout or SSL error; in configurations where the URL or encoder calls for it, port 443 may resolve some SSL errors.

Connection settings do not set video quality
The URL and key tell Larix where to send the broadcast and which stream to use. Resolution, frame rate, audio, and bitrate are separate encoder settings. YouTube’s current encoder guidance supports RTMP/RTMPS and H.264, H.265/HEVC, and AV1; it recommends constant bitrate and a two-second keyframe interval, which should not exceed four seconds. Its H.264 bitrate examples include the following recommendations, not guaranteed outcomes:
| Output | YouTube-recommended H.264 bitrate |
|---|---|
| 720p at 60 fps | 6 Mbps |
| 1080p at 30 fps | 10 Mbps |
| 1080p at 60 fps | 12 Mbps |
These are YouTube’s current encoder recommendations, accessed in 2026; choose settings your device and stable upload connection can sustain. YouTube defaults to automatic resolution and frame-rate detection. Manual selection is also available through a custom stream key. See YouTube’s encoder settings guidance for the current bitrate recommendations and configuration details.

Fix common Larix-to-YouTube problems
YouTube shows no incoming signal
- Make sure the intended connection is active in Larix and the intended stream is selected in YouTube Studio.
- Check that the URL has the complete server address, one slash before the key, and the exact current key. A missing slash, extra character, stale key, or wrong stream can prevent the signal from arriving.
- Confirm Larix is actually broadcasting and that the device has a working internet connection.
The stream key was changed or exposed
Reset the key in YouTube Studio and replace the old value in Larix immediately. YouTube says only a channel owner or manager can reset a stream key. Treat it as a credential, not a shareable URL.
RTMPS reports an SSL error or times out
- Confirm you copied the RTMPS address using the lock control beside Stream URL in YouTube’s Stream settings.
- Verify that the installed Larix version supports RTMPS and that the selected URL uses the matching protocol.
- If the encoder configuration or URL requires it, check YouTube’s advice about port 443 for some SSL errors.
The connection works, but video is unstable or poor quality
Check the device’s encoder settings and upload connection separately from the URL. Use a constant bitrate and two-second keyframes as YouTube recommends, then choose a resolution, frame rate, and bitrate the available upload bandwidth can sustain. If the connection cannot reliably carry the selected bitrate, lower the output settings.

There is no audio
Check that Larix has microphone permission on the device and that audio is enabled in the encoder configuration. Larix’s older YouTube setup article describes a workflow that sends both video and audio; if your app or Studio workflow has changed, confirm the current behavior in the Live Control Room.
