Choose Larix Broadcaster if your phone camera is the source; choose OBS Studio if a computer needs to combine sources, scenes, and audio. Neither is established as a more reliable 24/7 option: the available official documentation describes their roles and setup, not a head-to-head uptime test. If by “24/7 stream” you mean an unattended loop of prerecorded videos rather than a live camera feed, that is a different workflow from choosing a camera encoder.
First decide what “24/7 stream” means
A continuous camera feed and nonstop playback of existing videos are different jobs. Larix Broadcaster and OBS Studio are encoders: they send a live source to YouTube. An encoder does not, by itself, establish managed, unattended playback of a prerecorded playlist.
YouTube’s encoder setup guide lists cloud services for 24/7 streaming, including Gyre and Upstream. For a pre-recorded-video loop, evaluate a cloud playout workflow rather than assuming either encoder provides it.

When Larix Broadcaster makes sense
Larix is the natural starting point when the phone is the camera and you want to send that feed directly to YouTube. Softvelum’s Larix documentation explains configuring the YouTube RTMP connection with the server URL and stream name/key. It also documents using Larix as a contribution source in an OBS production.

That mobile convenience does not establish that a phone is suitable to run unattended indefinitely. Power, heat, connectivity, and the behavior of the specific phone and app need to be checked in your own setup; the official materials cited here do not make an indefinite-operation or uptime guarantee.
When OBS Studio makes sense
OBS is the stronger fit when the show needs desktop production: multiple video or screen sources, scene changes, transitions, audio mixing, hotkeys, preview, or multiview. OBS still depends on a computer and its live sources being available, as well as a working connection to YouTube. The cited product documentation does not establish that a desktop will stay online continuously or that OBS guarantees uninterrupted operation.
Configure either encoder for YouTube
- Enable live streaming ahead of time. YouTube notes that a first-time live stream may require enabling before you can go live, so do not leave initial setup until the planned broadcast.
- Get the destination details. In YouTube Live Control Room, copy the stream URL and stream key for the broadcast.
- Enter them in the encoder. In the chosen encoder’s stream settings, enter YouTube’s URL and key. For Larix, Softvelum describes the RTMP connection as the server URL plus the stream name/key; it advises using video-plus-audio mode for connections and following YouTube’s recommendations and requirements.
- Protect the key. Treat the stream key as a credential. Do not show it in screenshots, tutorials, or public posts. If it is exposed, replace or reset it through YouTube’s controls before relying on it again.
- Verify the actual workflow. Confirm that the intended camera or desktop production reaches the right YouTube broadcast before treating it as a continuous stream. Setup guidance is not evidence that a particular phone, computer, or network can sustain your planned run.
What YouTube’s 12-hour archive note means
YouTube Help says, “All streams under 12 hours will be automatically archived.” That is an automatic-archive threshold, not a statement that every stream longer than 12 hours cannot run. It also does not show that Larix or OBS can guarantee an uninterrupted 24/7 broadcast.

Choose by source and production, not an assumed reliability ranking
- Phone camera straight to YouTube: start with Larix.
- Desktop show with several inputs or planned scene changes: start with OBS.
- Phone camera plus desktop scenes and mixing: consider Larix as the phone contribution source and OBS as the production environment.
- Unattended prerecorded-video loop: compare cloud playout options listed for that workflow, not just camera encoders.
For any continuous broadcast, test the specific power, network, source, and restart arrangements you intend to use. The cited sources do not establish an apples-to-apples reliability winner or a universally reliable configuration.
