If it does not move while the playlist plays, investigate the input or media. If it moves, check whether the playlist is routed to the mix selected for streaming. Solo monitoring can confirm you hear the input locally, but it does not prove that audio is reaching YouTube.
Find where the audio disappears
vMix’s List Input can combine video, audio, and M3U playlist files as one input. Confirm the intended List Input is loaded and playing before changing encoder settings. The vMix List Input training page describes its playlist capabilities.
- Play the playlist in vMix and open the Audio Mixer.
- Watch the meter for the playlist input. A moving meter means vMix is receiving audio at that input; a silent meter points first to playback, the selected files or source, or the input’s mute state.
- If the meter moves, continue to the routing checks below rather than changing codecs first.
The Audio Mixer’s meters and controls are documented in the vMix User Guide, Audio Mixer (vMix 29). Interface labels can differ by installed version.
Use Solo to check local audibility
Solo the playlist input and listen through vMix’s headphone monitor. If you hear it, that confirms a local preview of the input, not that the stream mix contains it: vMix’s Solo preview does not affect the Master mix. If Solo is silent, return to the input, its playback state, and mute controls.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Check the playlist’s audio enable and mute/speaker controls in the mixer. Seeing its video in Preview or Output does not by itself establish that its audio is included.
Check automatic mixing and the playlist’s state
vMix’s Automatically Mix Audio behavior can switch active audio to match the active video input. If playlist audio must continue while another visual is active, inspect the Follow/Automatically Mix Audio control and confirm the playlist remains enabled in the intended mix. The relevant controls are covered in the Audio Mixer guide and the vMix User Guide, Audio.

Route the playlist to the mix sent to streaming
Check both ends of the route: which bus the playlist uses, and which mix the stream selects. vMix says new inputs go to Master by default, and Master is the default mix sent to streaming. Its guide states: “M is the Master or Default audio mix and is sent to Recording, Streaming and External Output.”
- In the Audio Mixer, verify that the playlist is enabled on the intended bus (for example, Master/M).
- Open Streaming Quality Settings and inspect the Channels selection.
- Select a mix that includes the playlist’s bus. If your production uses an auxiliary bus, make sure that bus is included in the stream mix or route the playlist to an included bus.
Do not assume that audible Solo monitoring means the stream’s selected Channels mix includes that input. The vMix guide on Output Audio Channels explains the stream channel selection.

Test the outgoing stream before going public
Once the input and routing are correct, run a short test using the same playlist type and audio/video behavior planned for the broadcast. Check the outgoing stream and YouTube’s stream health before resuming a consequential event. YouTube says, “Make sure to test before you start your live stream.” Its encoder settings guidance lists AAC or MP3 audio for RTMP/RTMPS and recommends 44.1 kHz sample rate and 128 Kbps bitrate for stereo audio.
These codec and encoder checks come after confirming the audio reaches the selected vMix stream mix. Changing codecs is not a substitute for fixing a silent input or an excluded bus.

Check YouTube notices if vMix audio is present
If the vMix meter moves and the stream mix is correct, inspect YouTube Studio or the Live Control Room for warnings or restrictions, particularly when the playlist contains third-party music. YouTube states that “All live streams are scanned for matches to third-party content, including copyrighted content in the form of another live broadcast.” A match can cause a placeholder to replace the stream and may lead to interruption or termination if the content remains. Even a license may not prevent interruption if the rights owner has not allowlisted the channel through Content ID. See YouTube’s live-stream copyright guidance; do not try to bypass detection.

A different fault may apply if the vMix recording sounds fine but the stream—or playback on a single-speaker mobile device—is weak or distorted. vMix’s support article describes a scenario where balanced microphone signals connected to an unbalanced computer input can cancel when summed. For that specific symptom, it suggests a proper computer audio interface supporting XLR or a temporary Separate Mono adjustment. This is not an established fix for a silent playlist or an incorrectly selected stream bus. See vMix’s low, muted, or distorted stream-audio article (last updated March 16, 2023).

| What you observe | Where to look next |
|---|---|
| Playlist meter stays still | List Input and files loaded, playlist actually playing, input mute or audio enable state. |
| Meter moves; Solo is audible; YouTube is silent | Playlist bus assignment, Automatically Mix Audio/Follow behavior, and Streaming Quality Settings > Channels. |
| vMix meter and selected stream mix are correct, but YouTube shows a notice | Live Control Room or YouTube Studio restrictions, including third-party-content matches. |
| Recording sounds fine, but stream or single-speaker mobile playback is weak or distorted | Consider the specific balanced-microphone-to-unbalanced-input issue described by vMix; do not treat it as the default playlist diagnosis. |

If the goal is to keep uploaded video playing as a YouTube live stream, StreamNeo is a separate option from troubleshooting a live vMix production: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, then go live. Nothing has to stay on at home; it streams your upload as made, up to 4K 60fps, at one price per slot, and automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. Monthly is $9.99 per month. It plays uploaded videos, not a camera feed, and streams to YouTube.
