Shyvana’s long-awaited League of Legends update shipped with Patch 26.6 on March 17, 2026—roughly five years after Riot first described her as a strong candidate for a future visual and gameplay update. Riot had not promised she would be next, and the 2021 comment was a possibility, not a launch date.
When did Shyvana get her update?
Riot announced Shyvana’s update in the Patch 26.6 notes, published March 17, 2026. The release followed Riot’s January 2026 developer update, which said the work was planned for Act 2 of that season, and a March 2 update saying the VGU would arrive in the next patch. Riot’s Patch 26.6 notes confirm the release.
The “five years” framing is approximate: Riot discussed Shyvana as a possible VGU candidate in 2021, and the update arrived in March 2026. That is roughly five years, not an exact five-year anniversary.
What did Riot say in 2021?
In its 2021 champion-update voting results, Riot’s Reav3 called Shyvana a “pretty strong contender” for a future VGU to explore outside a vote. He also made clear that Riot could not promise she would be the next champion to receive one. The voting-results post framed her as a potential candidate, not a confirmed project or a scheduled release.

What changed in the Patch 26.6 update?
Riot’s launch notes describe a broad visual and gameplay update: a new model, updated abilities, visual effects, voice-over, and changes to her skins. The ability names in the notes are:
- Passive — Scalemail
- Q — Emberstrike
- W — Inferno Aegis
- E — Molten Burst
- R — Dragon’s Descent
The ability values printed in the Patch 26.6 notes are a dated snapshot, not a promise about present-day live numbers: Riot said Shyvana was still being fine-tuned on the Public Beta Environment when the notes were written. Check the current patch notes for up-to-date gameplay values.

How did Riot say it approached the rework?
In its March 2, 2026 developer update, Riot said it gathered gameplay and art feedback from Shyvana mains and aimed to preserve aspects of the character and play that those players valued. The January update described the intended approach as comparable to the updates for Dr. Mundo or Volibear. Those comments explain Riot’s stated design intent; they do not establish that every player preferred the result.

Riot’s Patch 26.9 notes described follow-up balance goals: broaden the item options for bruiser Shyvana and make the distinction between AD and AP builds sharper. These are stated goals, not evidence that both build paths are equally strong. Shyvana’s balance and viable items can change from patch to patch, so advice about a specific build should be tied to the patch it describes. Read Riot’s Patch 26.9 notes for that follow-up.
