What was the Soul Reaver remasters leak at SDCC 2024?
On July 25, 2024, attendees spotted “Soul Reaver I & II Remastered” branding near a Dark Horse Legacy of Kain statue display at San Diego Comic-Con. ComicBook.com reported the sighting while noting that Crystal Dynamics had not announced a remaster at the time. What did the official announcement confirm?
Aspyr and Crystal Dynamics announced Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver 1 & 2 Remastered on September 24, 2024. The collection brings remastered versions of Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver and Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver 2 together, with a December 10, 2024 release date. Aspyr named Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC via Steam; the announcement also linked an Epic Games Store option. Aspyr’s product page lists the collection and its release details.
What changes were announced for the remasters?
Aspyr’s announcement described visual updates and quality-of-life features intended to bring the games to current platforms. These are publisher descriptions, not an independent assessment of how well the changes work in play.

- Other features: photo mode, achievements and trophies, and an expanded day/night feature in Soul Reaver. Aspyr said the first game’s day/night cycle had been cut from its original release.
In a September 24, 2024 PlayStation Blog development account, Aspyr Director of Product Chris Bashaar said the team received original source code and a complete asset set from Crystal Dynamics. Bashaar described the goal as preserving the original combat, puzzles, boss fights, balance, and feel while adapting the games for modern hardware. That account explains the stated approach; it is not a third-party evaluation of the results.
What bonus material and Lost Levels are included?
Aspyr’s December 4, 2024 feature described an archive of supplementary material alongside the games. It includes an interactive lore map, concept art and galleries, cinematic material, original credits, demo videos and outtakes, scripts for both games, and soundtrack playlists. Aspyr’s feature on the bonus content also details four Lost Levels: Undercity, Smokestack, Retreat, and Forges.

The Lost Levels are preserved areas to explore, not finished, fully restored stages. Aspyr warns that they may contain missing textures and can feel as though they are still under construction. They are best approached as historical, interactive archive material rather than additional polished campaign levels.

The official announcement covers the digital platform lineup. For physical copies, Limited Run Games lists standard editions for PS5, Nintendo Switch, and Xbox, along with a collector’s edition, distributing the title on Aspyr’s behalf. Its collector’s edition listing describes a game, steelbook, soundtrack, Nosgoth map poster, mini-comic, sword-replica display stand, block puzzle, medallion, pin, and art cards. Limited Run Games’ Legacy of Kain listings provide the physical-edition details. These listings establish that physical products exist; they do not establish current stock or an Amazon listing.
