It is a 421-piece, near-1:1 display replica of Nintendo’s original handheld, and LEGO says it has “no light, sound or digital play functions.” The controls, cartridges and game screens are model details, not working console components.
What the LEGO Game Boy set includes
Designed for ages 18+, set 72046 recreates the original Game Boy’s familiar shape and controls: the +Control Pad, A and B Buttons, SELECT and START buttons, contrast adjustment, volume dial and Game Pak slot. LEGO describes the replica as near 1:1 scale.
The 421-piece kit also includes a buildable display stand, two interchangeable brick-built Game Paks and three screen options. The cartridges depict The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening and Super Mario Land; the display screens show those games or a Nintendo start screen. These are for display, not gameplay. LEGO’s U.S. product page lists the set’s features and contents.
Size, price and availability
The finished model measures over 5.5 inches (14 cm) high, 3.5 inches (9 cm) wide and 1 inch (3 cm) deep, according to LEGO. It is sized for a shelf or desk rather than for use as a handheld console.

Nintendo of America separately gave a U.S. regular price of $59.99 in its launch announcement. What it is—and what it isn’t
Set 72046 is a collectible building kit for people who want a brick-built Game Boy replica and interchangeable display details. It is not an alternative to an original Game Boy: there is no functioning display or digital play, and LEGO does not describe the buttons or dials as operational. The LEGO Group’s July 2025 announcement explicitly states: “There are no light, sound or display play functions.”
