If you would rather build recognizable characters, vehicles, or settings—or want a set aimed more at play—compare it with LEGO’s Mario, Horizon, Fortnite, Minecraft, Sonic, and Animal Crossing ranges. Choose by what you want the finished model to represent, not by piece count alone.
What the LEGO PlayStation set includes
Set 72306 is an 18+ display build with 1,911 pieces. The official US LEGO listing showed a price of $179.99 when accessed; LEGO’s September 2026 announcement gave launch prices of £139.99 in the UK and €159.99 in the EU. LEGO announced a general release date of October 4, 2026. Prices and availability can change, so check the local listing before buying. LEGO’s PlayStation product listing and September 2026 launch announcement provide the product and launch details.
The replica measures about 6 cm high, 26 cm wide, and 19 cm deep. Its original-style controller plugs into the console, and the Open and Power buttons function. Opening the console reveals removable miniature scenes inspired by Gran Turismo (1997) and Ape Escape (1999), which can also be displayed beside the console. It is a nostalgic, interactive display model—not a playable console.

Choose by the kind of collection you are building
Pick PlayStation for console nostalgia
The PlayStation set is the clearest match if your collection is about the original hardware and its era. The console silhouette is the centerpiece; the controller and the two removable game-inspired scenes add detail without turning it into a character-led set.

Pick Mario Kart for an adult gaming display with a vehicle
Mario Kart – Mario & Standard Kart is a close alternative in audience and piece count: it is rated 18+ and has 1,972 pieces, compared with 1,911 for the PlayStation. LEGO’s gamer guide lists it at $169.99 in the US. The choice is less about which has more pieces and more about whether you want a kart and Mario or a retro console on display.
Pick Horizon or Fortnite for characters, machines, and play features
The Horizon Adventures set is aimed at ages 9+ and combines Aloy and Varl with two buildable machines. Fortnite is a broader theme, covering both children’s playsets and adult display models; compare specific sets rather than treating the theme as one format.

Pick another gaming theme for its world or characters
LEGO also lists Super Mario, Minecraft, Sonic, and Animal Crossing ranges. Those themes include different ages and formats, so the useful comparison is between the specific sets you would actually display or build—not just franchise names.
Check fit, price, and format before choosing
- Franchise: Which game or hardware would you be happiest seeing on a shelf?
- Display space: The PlayStation model is about 26 cm wide and 19 cm deep. Check your shelf’s usable depth as well as its width.
- Audience: The PlayStation and Mario Kart builds are both marked 18+; the cited Horizon model is 9+. Check the age rating on any individual set you consider.
- Interaction: The PlayStation has functional buttons and removable hidden scenes, but it is still a display model. Other themes may offer different play features.
- Local budget: Use the current listing for your country. The PlayStation’s US price is a snapshot, while its UK and EU figures above are launch prices.
- Build expectations: Piece count is not a dependable measure of build time, difficulty, or value. The cited listings do not establish a like-for-like independent build comparison.
What about the next Super Mario sets?
LEGO announced a Super Mario refresh featuring minifigure-based roleplay sets with Mario and Luigi characters, karts, and environments. LEGO said the sets were planned to reach LEGO.com, LEGO stores, and select retailers from January 1, 2027. That makes them a future option, not a currently released alternative as of October 7, 2026. LEGO’s announcement includes the launch plan.
