A ComicBook.com report dated October 2, 2026 said the pair was listed at Heritage Auctions for $1,000, but that report does not establish whether the lot is still available or what it ultimately sold for.
What are the two Toy Fair minifigures?
They are promotional LEGO Marvel figures cataloged as Toy Fair 2012 exclusives. BrickLink identifies Captain America as sh0028 and Iron Man – Model 37 Armor as sh0027. They are collectibles tied to the early days of the LEGO Marvel theme, not the retail sets themselves.
The distinction matters: these figures helped promote the new theme around its launch, but the pair did not alone launch LEGO’s entire Avengers line.
How they fit into LEGO’s Avengers launch
On July 20, 2011, The LEGO Group announced a multi-year strategic licensing relationship with Marvel. The company said its initial Marvel construction-toy collection—including sets, minifigures, and buildable characters—was scheduled to debut in May 2012, alongside the planned summer release of Marvel’s The Avengers. The announcement named Iron Man, Hulk, Captain America, Thor, Hawkeye, Loki, and Black Widow for the movie line. LEGO’s announcement via PR Newswire provides the launch timeline; it does not state how many Toy Fair figures were made.

In the announcement, LEGO licensing and entertainment vice president Jill Wilfert described the Marvel partnership as a way to deliver “some of the best and most constructible Super Hero stories of all time.” The Toy Fair pair belongs in that broader promotional context.
How to tell the promo versions from later figures
Secondary coverage points to visible design differences, which can help distinguish the Toy Fair versions from later releases but are not, by themselves, an authentication test.

- Iron Man: ComicBook.com describes the Toy Fair figure’s helmet as printed, unlike the molded helmet on a later version.
- Captain America: The same report notes differences in the shield and facial expression. Brick Fanatics characterizes the promotional figures’ heads as classic printed designs and their overall appearance as prototype-like.
Compare the figure with the cataloged identity and examine its condition, included parts, and any accompanying card backing or provenance. No authentication protocol is established by these visual descriptions.
How rare are they?
ComicBook.com reported that 125 of each figure were produced. Brick Fanatics had also reported the count in 2024, attributing it to Minifigure Price Guide and Atlanta Brick Co. Treat 125 each as a secondary-source figure, not a production quantity confirmed in LEGO’s 2011 announcement.

ComicBook.com reported on October 2, 2026 that the pair was listed at Heritage Auctions for $1,000. The auction page could not be verified, so that is an amount reported for a listing—not a confirmed current offer, completed sale, or realized price. The article also described single figures with eBay asking prices of $800–$900; those were asking prices, not verified transactions or a reliable market-wide valuation.

Before buying, check that the listing identifies the Toy Fair version rather than a later retail figure, inspect the condition and completeness, and review seller documentation and packaging or provenance. A search result or resemblance to the promotional design does not establish authenticity. Availability and asking prices can change, so check the specific listing and its status directly.
