Reilly has reportedly expressed interest in a third Wreck-It Ralph movie, but that is not the same as a Disney announcement: no greenlight, production team, story, or release date is established by the available report. The strongest clue to what could justify another sequel comes from the filmmakers’ approach to Ralph Breaks the Internet: they wanted a new setting that created fresh comedy and conflict for Ralph and Vanellope.
Does John C. Reilly want Wreck-It Ralph 3?
A ComicBook.com report published October 2, 2026 says Reilly is interested in making a third film. Its accessible excerpt presents the possibility positively, but does not establish a detailed, verifiable explanation from Reilly. The report’s page could not be retrieved in full, so claims about his precise reasoning should be treated cautiously. ComicBook.com’s October 2, 2026 report.
Has Disney announced a third movie?
No. Reilly’s reported enthusiasm is not evidence that Disney has approved a sequel or put it into production. The available report does not confirm a greenlight, creative team, plot, or release window.
The first film, Wreck-It Ralph, was released on November 2, 2012, and Disney lists it as PG with Reilly among the cast. Disney’s official film page describes Ralph as an arcade-game villain who crosses the arcade to prove he can be a hero.

What could make another sequel worthwhile?
The previous sequel offers a useful standard, not a blueprint for a confirmed third film. Director and co-writer Phil Johnston said, “We weren’t gonna make a sequel though unless there was a very good reason to do it.” Director Rich Moore recalled that the internet concept immediately suggested opportunities for comedy and conflict between the leads. Disney’s September 20, 2018 filmmakers’ interview.
That sequel sent Ralph and Vanellope beyond Litwak’s arcade to find a replacement Sugar Rush game piece before the game was unplugged. Its new world mattered because it put their friendship under pressure, rather than simply repeating the first film’s arcade adventure.

A new world should create a new character problem
A third movie would need more than another tour of technology or gaming culture. The setting should force Ralph and Vanellope to make difficult choices, create a distinct source of humor, and shape the conflict between them. Those are story criteria inferred from the filmmakers’ account of the second film—not announced plans for a third.
The friendship can change as the characters grow
Reilly previously described the arcade as a childhood space for the pair’s friendship and the internet as a larger world they enter as they grow and mature. D23’s November 12, 2018 interview. That framing leaves room for another chapter if Ralph and Vanellope’s changing relationship—not just a new location—drives the story.

The arcade could remain part of the story
The internet gave the second film its expanded canvas, but the original arcade is the franchise’s home base. A follow-up could connect its new setting back to that world and show why the change matters to the characters. This is a possible measure of a satisfying sequel, not a reported premise.
