Lenovo announced the 15-inch Legion 5a and Legion 5i Gen 11 at CES on January 6, 2026. The 5a is not one fixed laptop: it covers a Ryzen 200 model (15AHP11) and Ryzen AI 400 models (15AGP11). The 5i (15IPH11) uses Intel Core Ultra Series 3. All are Windows 11 gaming-focused platforms with NVIDIA GeForce RTX 50-series graphics, Lenovo AI Engine+ and Lenovo’s Coldfront: Hyper cooling, but the exact CPU, GPU, display, memory and ports depend on the machine type and region.

What Lenovo announced at CES 2026

Lenovo’s January 6 announcement positioned the Legion 5a and Legion 5i as 15-inch laptops for gaming, streaming, content creation and everyday work. The company highlighted PureSight OLED display options, thinner and lighter designs than earlier Legion 5 generations, Coldfront: Hyper cooling and AI Engine+. Lenovo originally expected availability in April 2026.

The estimated U.S. starting prices announced at CES were $1,299 for the Ryzen 200 Legion 5a, $1,499 for the Ryzen AI 400 Legion 5a and $1,549 for the Legion 5i. These were launch estimates, not guaranteed current retail prices. Check the live regional store before ordering: Legion 5a Gen 11 and Legion 5i Gen 11.

Lenovo’s original announcement is available at Lenovo’s CES 2026 release.

Legion 5a: two AMD platforms under one name

The “Legion 5a” label spans two documented platform families. Their CPU, integrated graphics and AI capability are different, so compare the machine-type code rather than the marketing name alone.

Machine type Processor options CPU and AI details Documented graphics ceiling CES estimated starting price
Legion 5 15AHP11 AMD Ryzen 7 250 (Ryzen 200 Series) 8 cores/16 threads; 3.3 GHz base, up to 5.1 GHz; Radeon 780M; NPU up to 16 TOPS; up to 38 overall TOPS RTX 5050, 5060 or 5070 Laptop GPU, each listed at 115W with 8GB GDDR7 $1,299
Legion 5 15AGP11 AMD Ryzen AI 7 450 (Ryzen AI 400 Series) 8 cores/16 threads; up to 5.1 GHz; Radeon 860M; NPU up to 50 TOPS; up to 66 overall TOPS RTX 5050 or 5060 (8GB GDDR7, 115W), or RTX 5070 (12GB GDDR7, 115W) $1,499
Legion 5 15AGP11 AMD Ryzen AI 9 465 (Ryzen AI 400 Series) 10 cores/20 threads; up to 5.0 GHz; Radeon 880M; NPU up to 50 TOPS; up to 73 overall TOPS RTX 5050 or 5060 (8GB GDDR7, 115W), or RTX 5070 (12GB GDDR7, 115W) Not separately stated

Specifications are platform options from Lenovo’s 15AHP11 PSREF and 15AGP11 PSREF; a particular store listing may offer only some combinations.

Legion 5i: Intel Core Ultra Series 3

The Intel family is documented as Legion 5 15IPH11 and marketed in Lenovo’s consumer store as Legion 5i Gen 11. It offers two 16-core, 16-thread processors, each combining four performance cores, eight efficiency cores and four low-power efficiency cores.

Processor Maximum performance-core frequency NPU Graphics listed in PSREF
Intel Core Ultra 7 356H Up to 4.7 GHz Up to 50 NPU TOPS RTX 5050 or RTX 5060 Laptop GPU, 8GB GDDR7, 115W
Intel Core Ultra 9 386H Up to 4.9 GHz Up to 50 NPU TOPS RTX 5050 or RTX 5060 Laptop GPU, 8GB GDDR7, 115W

See Lenovo’s 15IPH11 PSREF for the platform specification. Lenovo’s U.S. storefront advertises a Legion 5i Gen 11 configuration “up to RTX 5070,” while that PSREF lists only RTX 5050 and RTX 5060. This may reflect a regional SKU, a newer configuration or broader storefront copy. Verify the exact machine type, GPU memory and wattage before paying for an RTX 5070 model.

Lenovo Legion 5i 16" Gaming Laptop - Intel Core Ultra 9 275HX - GeForce RTX 5060 - WQXGA (2560x1600) - Windows 11 Home-W/HDMI Cable (32GB RAM | 1TB PCIe SSD)
  • Powered by Intel Core Ultra 9 275HX, a 24-core CPU (8P+16E) reaching up to 5.4 GHz, built for top-tier gaming, multitasking, and creative workflows.
  • Equipped with NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5060 8GB GDDR7 GPU, delivering advanced ray tracing, DLSS acceleration, and excellent performance in modern AAA titles.
  • 16" WQXGA (2560×1600) IPS display with 240Hz refresh rate, 500 nits brightness, HDR 400, Dolby Vision, and 100% DCI-P3 color for vivid and fluid visuals.
  • High-speed 32GB DDR5-5600 memory and 1TB PCIe Gen4 SSD ensure rapid load times and smooth multitasking across demanding applications.
  • Next-gen Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 5.4 connectivity deliver ultra-fast, stable wireless performance for gaming, streaming, and seamless device connections.

Shared hardware and upgrade options

  • Display: Lenovo promotes PureSight OLED options, but panel resolution, refresh rate and whether a configuration is OLED or another panel must be checked on the individual SKU.
  • Memory: the cited PSREFs specify up to 32GB DDR5-5600 and two SODIMM slots. “Up to” is a platform limit, not a promise that every laptop ships with 32GB.
  • Storage: two M.2 SSD slots are documented across the AMD and Intel platforms. SSD length, PCIe lanes and thermal clearance can vary.
  • Graphics: NVIDIA RTX 50-series laptop GPUs are paired with 115W listings in the PSREFs. The GPU, not the NPU label, is the key specification to compare for gaming.
  • Operating system: Windows 11 Home and Pro variants are documented, and some configurations may be sold without a preloaded operating system.
  • Connectivity: HDMI, Ethernet, 3.5mm audio and USB-C display output are available, with platform-specific differences in USB-C standards and power delivery.

AMD USB4 versus Intel Thunderbolt 4

The AMD 15AHP11 and 15AGP11 documentation lists two USB4 40Gbps USB-C ports with DisplayPort 1.4 and 65–100W USB Power Delivery. The Intel 15IPH11 documentation lists Thunderbolt 4 plus a USB-C port supporting USB4 10Gbps, DisplayPort 2.1 and 65–100W USB Power Delivery. USB4 and Thunderbolt 4 are related but not interchangeable certifications; dock, monitor and external-SSD users should match the port specification to their accessories.

AI PC and Copilot+ labels are not gaming ratings

The Ryzen 7 250 model is described as an AI PC with an NPU rated up to 16 TOPS. The Ryzen AI 400 and Core Ultra Series 3 configurations list up to 50 NPU TOPS and meet Lenovo’s stated Copilot+ threshold when the required memory and storage conditions are also met. NPU TOPS describe on-device AI acceleration; they do not establish frame rates, battery life or sustained CPU performance.

Which Legion 5 should you choose?

For the lowest entry price

Start with the Ryzen 200 5a. Its CES estimate was $1,299, but compare the complete configuration: an inexpensive CPU paired with a stronger GPU or OLED panel may be better value than a cheaper machine with a cut-down display or memory arrangement.

For on-device AI features

Choose a Ryzen AI 400 5a or Core Ultra 3 5i configuration if Copilot+ eligibility and an NPU up to 50 TOPS matter. Select between AMD and Intel based on the actual price, ports and software requirements rather than assuming one family is universally faster.

Lenovo Legion 5 Gen 10 Gaming Laptop: Ryzen 7 260, NVidia RTX 5060, 16GB DDR5 RAM, 512GB SSD, 15.3" WUXGA (1920x1200) 165Hz Display
  • AMD Ryzen 7 260 Processor (8C / 16T, 3.8 / 5.1GHz, 8MB L2 / 16MB L3)
  • NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5060 8GB GDDR7, Boost Clock 2497MHz, TGP 115W, 572 AI TOPS
  • 15.3" WUXGA (1920x1200) 16:10, 165Hz, 300-nits, 100% sRGB, Dolby Vision, Anti-glare, IPS Display, G-SYNC
  • 16GB (1x16GB) SO-DIMM DDR5-5600 RAM; 512GB M.2 2242 PCIe 4.0x4 NVMe SSD
  • Backlit Keyboard, Wi-Fi 6, 802.11ax 2x2, Bluetooth 5.2, Windows 11 Home

For the highest documented AMD graphics option

The 15AGP11 PSREF lists an RTX 5070 Laptop GPU with 12GB GDDR7 at 115W. The 15AHP11 PSREF also lists RTX 5070, but with 8GB GDDR7. Confirm the GPU memory and exact machine type on the sale page.

For Intel-specific connectivity

The 15IPH11 platform’s Thunderbolt 4 support may suit a buyer with existing Thunderbolt docks or peripherals. AMD’s two USB4 40Gbps ports can be preferable for other high-speed USB-C setups; verify the device and display requirements first.

For future upgrades

All three documented platforms provide two SODIMM slots and two M.2 slots, which is useful compared with laptops that solder memory or provide only one SSD position. Check the installed module layout, supported SSD size and warranty terms before opening the chassis.

Checklist before ordering

  1. Record the exact Lenovo machine type: 15AHP11, 15AGP11 or 15IPH11.
  2. Confirm the full CPU name, not merely “Legion 5a” or “Legion 5i.”
  3. Verify the GPU model, VRAM and stated wattage; do not assume every 5i listing includes RTX 5070.
  4. Check whether the panel is OLED, its resolution and refresh rate, and whether HDR claims apply to that SKU.
  5. Confirm installed RAM, free SODIMM slots and SSD capacity before choosing a factory upgrade.
  6. Check the operating-system edition, included charger wattage and USB-C charging limits.
  7. Read the regional warranty, return policy and support terms at Lenovo’s Legion 5 documentation page.
  8. Verify live price, stock and delivery region; CES estimates are not current street prices.

Availability and price in 2026

Lenovo’s April 2026 availability target has passed, and U.S. product pages now show Legion 5a and 5i Gen 11 listings. Captured storefront information does not establish a dependable current price or a complete static configuration table. Prices, discounts and stock can change by country and date, so use the live product page and match its machine type to the relevant PSREF before buying.

Bottom line

The Legion 5 Gen 11 range is a set of related platforms, not one uniform laptop. The meaningful choice is Ryzen 200 5a versus Ryzen AI 400 5a versus Core Ultra 3 5i, followed by the exact RTX GPU, display, memory, storage and port configuration. Buy the specific SKU that meets those requirements at the current regional price, and treat the RTX 5070 Intel listing as something to verify rather than an assumption.

Product prices and availability are accurate as of the date/time indicated and are subject to change. Any price and availability information displayed on Amazon at the time of purchase will apply.
