Short answer: the Lenovo Legion 9i 18-inch can be a serious desktop-replacement gaming and creation workstation, but only selected configurations combine the RTX 5090 with Lenovo’s glasses-free 3D panel. The RTX 5090 option, 24GB of VRAM, four RAM slots, four SSD slots and a high-refresh 18-inch display suit demanding games, 3D work and development. Its 3.5kg starting weight, large power requirement, premium price and optional 3D ecosystem mean it is not the right choice for every buyer.
What the Lenovo Legion 9i 18-inch RTX 5090 is
Lenovo announced the Legion 9i (18”, 10) on 8 May 2025 as a laptop for gamers and people who create games and other 3D content. Lenovo identifies game developers, visual artists, 3D professionals, AI engineers and designers as target users. The platform appears in Lenovo’s PSREF documentation as Legion 9 18IAX10, also called Legion 9i Gen 10 18-inch Intel.
The name does not describe one fixed specification. The GeForce RTX 5090 and glasses-free 3D display are options, so a store listing must be checked for both. A Legion 9i with a different GPU or the standard 2D panel is a materially different purchase.

How the glasses-free 3D display works
The optional panel uses eye tracking together with a lenticular lens array. The screen sends a separate image toward the left and right eyes; the brain combines those views into a depth impression without special glasses. Tracking is therefore part of the viewing experience, and the effect depends on sitting in the supported position.

Lenovo 3D Studio features
- Native 3D Media Player: plays compatible stereoscopic media.
- Side-by-side and top-bottom support: accommodates common 3D video layouts.
- AI Media Converter: generates artificial left- and right-eye frames from ordinary 2D video. Because these frames are created rather than captured stereoscopically, results can vary by scene.
- Model Viewer and creation-app support: provides a way to inspect supported 3D assets and work with compatible applications.
Lenovo said 30 games were supported when the product was announced. That number is time-sensitive; check the current 3D Studio compatibility list for the games and applications you actually use.
2D versus 3D display modes
| Consideration | 2D mode | 3D mode |
|---|---|---|
| Resolution and refresh | 3840×2400 at 240Hz | 1920×1200 at up to 440Hz |
| Best fit | Sharp desktop work, detailed games, editing and general use | Compatible stereoscopic games, media and 3D visualization |
| Glasses | Not required | Not required; eye tracking and the lenticular layer create the separation |
| Software dependency | Works as a conventional display | Benefits depend on 3D Studio, supported applications and compatible content |
| Main trade-off | No built-in stereoscopic depth effect | Lower pixel resolution and a narrower use case than the 2D mode |
The 3D panel is most compelling when you already have compatible content or a workflow that benefits from depth previews. If your priority is maximum desktop sharpness, the 3840×2400 2D mode is the more straightforward choice.
Gaming performance and practical expectations
The RTX 5090 configuration combines a 175W graphics target with the Core Ultra 9 275HX, a 240Hz high-resolution mode and a 440Hz 1920×1200 mode. Lenovo’s AI Core and AI Engine+ dynamically adjust settings by scenario, while Legion Space provides performance profiles, RGB controls and other gaming utilities. A large 18-inch panel and six-speaker system complete the gaming-focused design.
Those specifications make the laptop suited to demanding modern games, but frame rates will vary with the game, resolution, ray-tracing settings, DLSS or other upscaling choices, power profile and thermal conditions. The 440Hz mode is most relevant to competitive titles that can produce very high frame rates; it does not make every game run at 440 frames per second.
Blender, Unreal Engine and other creator workloads
For creators, the published hardware offers several useful capabilities: 24GB of RTX 5090 VRAM for GPU rendering and large scenes, up to 192GB of DDR5 memory, four SSD slots, an SD card reader, broad color coverage and Lenovo 3D Studio tools. Those are hardware-based advantages rather than independent benchmark results.
Blender and 3D rendering
The RTX 5090’s VRAM and high power target should be helpful for GPU rendering, viewport work and complex assets that exceed the comfort zone of lower-memory laptop GPUs. Scene complexity, renderer choice, cooling and sustained power limits still determine actual render times. No independent benchmark for the RTX 5090/3D maximum configuration is established here.

Unreal Engine and game development
The CPU, GPU, expandable memory and multiple SSDs are appropriate for compiling projects, running the editor, previewing lighting and keeping large source trees and asset libraries locally. Developers should choose enough RAM and SSD capacity for their engine version, source-control cache, derived data and virtual machines rather than assuming the base configuration is sufficient.
Video, design and AI work
The DCI-P3 coverage, HDR support, SD reader and high memory ceiling can benefit editing, visual design and local AI experimentation. Color-critical users should still validate the exact panel’s calibration and their application’s HDR and color-management behavior.

Use the exact Lenovo Legion 9i 18 RTX 5090 laptop SKU as the comparison point, not the family name alone.
| Your priority | Configuration direction | Reason |
|---|---|---|
| Maximum GPU rendering or high-end gaming | RTX 5090, the largest practical RAM option and sufficient SSD capacity | Prioritizes 24GB VRAM and sustained GPU headroom; buy capacity for the projects you actually keep locally. |
| 3D visualization and stereoscopic games | RTX 5090 plus the optional 3D panel | Provides both the GPU headroom and the glasses-free workflow; verify application and game support first. |
| Sharp general-purpose gaming and creation | RTX 5090 with the 3840×2400 2D panel | Uses the higher-resolution mode without paying for a 3D feature you may rarely use. |
| Large Unreal or Blender projects | At least the memory and SSD capacity your assets require; use the four-slot upgrade path where available | Capacity prevents project files, caches and source builds from competing for space. |
| Frequent travel | Consider a smaller Legion or another lighter system | The 3.5kg starting weight, 18-inch chassis and high-power adapter burden work against daily mobility. |
Price, availability and ownership trade-offs
Lenovo announced June 2025 availability with an expected starting price of €4,499 including VAT and expected North American availability in the fourth quarter of 2025. Those were launch expectations, not a guarantee of today’s price or stock; regional configuration, tax, warranty and availability must be checked in Lenovo’s live store.
PC Gamer’s 25 November 2025 review tested an RTX 5080, 64GB, 2TB configuration at $4,020 and scored it 88. The review praised performance, build quality and display, while identifying confusing settings, an average SSD and expected battery life as drawbacks. It estimated that adding an RTX 5090, 192GB of RAM, more SSD capacity and the 3D panel could bring a maximum configuration close to $5,800. That figure is a third-party estimate, not an official Lenovo price, and it does not describe the reviewed RTX 5080 machine.
