Verdict: The Lenovo Legion Pro 7i Gen 10 is an outstanding plugged-in 1600p gaming laptop, pairing a high-power RTX 5080 Laptop GPU with a superb 240Hz OLED display and a powerful Core Ultra 9 processor. It is also heavy, loud under load, dependent on a large 400W charger, and poor on battery. Buy it as a portable desktop replacement—not as an all-purpose travel laptop.

The configuration reviewed

This review covers the 16-inch Lenovo Legion Pro 7i Gen 10 Intel platform, identified by Lenovo as the Legion Pro 7 16IAX10H. The representative configuration uses an Intel Core Ultra 9 275HX, RTX 5080 Laptop GPU configured up to 175W, 32GB of DDR5-6400 memory, a 1TB SSD, and the 16-inch 2560×1600 OLED panel. Lenovo also sells RTX 5070 Ti versions and an AMD-based Legion Pro 7 Gen 10, so specifications and performance should not be generalized across every product carrying the Pro 7 name.

Lenovo’s US listing showed RTX 5080 configurations at roughly $3,199.99–$3,533.99, depending on storage and configuration, when checked in August 2026. Those are volatile promotional prices: confirm the exact SKU, storage capacity, warranty, and sale price before buying. Lenovo originally announced the Gen 10 Pro 7i for March 2025 with an expected starting price of $2,399. Lenovo product listing · Lenovo PSREF

Performance is the reason to buy it

The Legion Pro 7i’s defining trait is sustained power. The Core Ultra 9 275HX provides substantial CPU headroom for compiling, encoding, rendering, multitasking, and CPU-heavy games, while the high-power RTX 5080 Laptop GPU is particularly well matched to the laptop’s native 2560×1600 resolution.

Independent testing illustrates the range of results. In Tom’s Hardware testing, Shadow of the Tomb Raider reached 163 frames per second at 1080p Highest and 101 fps at 1440p in the default configuration. Cyberpunk 2077 with Ultra ray tracing reached 30 fps at 1080p and 50 fps at 1440p in that test setup. Switching to Performance mode raised Shadow of the Tomb Raider from 163 to 205 fps at 1080p.

Other review testing recorded 158 fps in Forza Horizon 5 at 1600p with advanced upscaling and frame-generation features disabled, rising to 233 fps with selected NVIDIA features enabled. Gears 5 reached 134 fps at 1600p Ultra, while Windows Central recorded 80 fps in Cyberpunk 2077 at 1600p Ultra ray tracing without Multi-Frame Generation. These figures come from different systems, drivers, presets, and power settings; they are useful indicators, not universal guarantees.

The practical conclusion is clear: this is an excellent 1600p gaming machine. It can deliver very high frame rates in lighter or well-optimized games, but demanding ray-traced releases may run closer to 80–140 fps at native resolution. DLSS Super Resolution and Frame Generation can raise displayed frame rates, but generated frames do not replace native rendering performance and may not be desirable for latency-sensitive competitive play.

Notebookcheck’s testing provides an important boundary: the RTX 5080 Laptop GPU is not the same as the desktop RTX 5080. Native 4K at maximum settings remains a demanding workload, particularly with ray tracing. The Pro 7i is best optimized for 1600p, not as an unconditional 4K replacement.

Performance mode matters

Do not compare Legion Pro 7i benchmark numbers without checking the power profile. Lenovo’s Balanced or automatic mode is not equivalent to Performance mode. Performance mode can produce a substantial frame-rate improvement, but it also increases fan noise and requires the primary charger for the most aggressive power and overclocking controls.

For a meaningful comparison, record the resolution, graphics preset, ray-tracing setting, DLSS mode, frame-generation setting, driver version, and whether the laptop was in Quiet, Balanced, or Performance mode. “Out-of-box” and “maximum performance” results describe different experiences.

A spectacular OLED display—with practical limits

The 16-inch 16:10 OLED is arguably the Pro 7i’s second major selling point. It runs at 2560×1600 and 240Hz, with Lenovo listing a 500-nit rating, HDR 1000 True Black, and 100% DCI-P3 coverage. OLED’s per-pixel lighting provides deep blacks and exceptional contrast, while the high refresh rate and fast response characteristics make motion look clean in competitive games.

Tom’s Guide measured approximately 464 nits of average brightness, more than 100% coverage of the sRGB and DCI-P3 gamuts, and over 1,000 nits during HDR content. Measurements are specific to its review unit; regional panels and lower-tier configurations should be confirmed before purchase. Tom’s Guide display testing · Lenovo display specifications

The 240Hz ceiling is most valuable in esports and lighter games. In demanding ray-traced titles, the RTX 5080 may produce a better-looking 80–140 fps experience rather than fully saturating the panel at native resolution. DLSS and frame generation can move some games closer to 240Hz, but that should not be confused with native 240-fps rendering.

The glossy surface also reflects room lighting. OLED owners should consider the long-term risk of image retention or burn-in when using static taskbars, browser interfaces, or application windows for many hours. Use the panel-care features Lenovo provides, vary static content, and review the current warranty language; no responsible recommendation should promise burn-in immunity.

Thermals are strong; acoustics are not silent

The Pro 7i uses its large chassis and 400W power system effectively. Tom’s Hardware recorded an average RTX 5080 temperature of about 63°C during a Metro Exodus stress run, with CPU P-cores averaging about 71°C. Across 15 repeated runs, performance remained around 113 fps with less than two fps of deviation.

Windows Central likewise reported stable output in a 25-run test. The fans are loud under demanding loads, especially in Performance mode, but were described as relatively low-pitched rather than harsh. That distinction matters: cooling is a strength, acoustic comfort is merely acceptable.

Use the laptop on a desk with clearance around the rear exhausts and keep the stock power adapter connected for gaming. Quiet or Balanced modes make more sense for ordinary work, but they should not be used as the basis for judging the machine’s maximum gaming capability.

Battery life makes the desktop-replacement label literal

Battery endurance is the clearest compromise. Reviews measured roughly 4.5 hours of web use and about 1.5 hours in a gaming-oriented PCMark 10 test. Demanding gaming away from the charger can realistically last about an hour, depending on the title, brightness, power mode, and frame-generation settings. TechRadar also reported charge loss while its unit was sleeping; treat that as a possible firmware or configuration issue to investigate rather than a guaranteed fault in every machine. The advertised 99.99Wh battery is close to the practical air-travel limit, but capacity does not equal all-day runtime. The HX-class processor, large OLED display, and high-power GPU consume too much energy for that expectation. Lenovo advertises 140W USB-C charging, but the 140W USB-C adapter is sold separately, and USB-C power should not be expected to deliver full gaming performance. The 400W adapter is large and materially worsens the carrying burden.

Build, controls, camera, and connectivity

The Pro 7i is a substantial 16-inch machine rather than a thin gaming laptop. Lenovo lists the RTX 5080 configuration at approximately 5.98 pounds, before the charger. It is transportable between home, work, and a LAN event, but it is not travel-friendly in the ultraportable sense.

The cited US configuration includes a per-key RGB keyboard, a 5MP camera with dual microphones and an electronic shutter, Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 5.4, and 2.5Gb Ethernet. The rear and side connectivity is appropriate for a desk-bound gaming setup, including Ethernet, video output, USB-C, and the primary charging connection. Exact ports, keyboard layout, storage, camera, warranty, and panel availability can vary by region, so check the PSREF for the exact model number.

Do not substitute impressions of the thinner Legion 7i for this laptop. The Pro 7i is a separate, thicker performance line with different power, cooling, and connectivity priorities. Lenovo PSREF specification PDF

Lenovo’s software is useful when used consistently

Lenovo Vantage and Legion Space provide practical controls for power profiles, graphics switching, fan behavior, updates, and RGB lighting. The most important feature is the ability to choose between quieter operation, Balanced behavior, and maximum Performance mode without treating every workload the same.

That flexibility also creates room for misleading comparisons. Note the selected profile before recording results, and expect the most aggressive settings to depend on the main charger. Keep firmware and graphics drivers current, but recheck performance and battery behavior after major updates.

RTX 5080, RTX 5090, or RTX 5070 Ti?

The RTX 5080 configuration is the sensible high-end target if native 1600p gaming and creator workloads are priorities. Lenovo lists the RTX 5080 at up to 175W with 16GB of GDDR7, compared with up to 140W and 12GB on the RTX 5070 Ti version. The 5070 Ti may be the better value when discounted, but it is not equivalent: the additional VRAM and power headroom of the 5080 matter for high-resolution textures, ray tracing, and demanding creator applications.

An RTX 5090 laptop can be faster, but the label alone is not enough to justify its price. Compare GPU power limits, CPU limits, chassis cooling, resolution, memory, frame-generation settings, and the actual price difference. A high-power RTX 5080 Pro 7i can challenge some RTX 5090 laptops placed in thinner chassis or given lower power ceilings, but it is not equivalent to a full-power RTX 5090.

ASUS ROG Strix Scar models are worth considering for buyers who prefer a more aggressively gaming-focused design. Gigabyte Aorus Master systems may be competitive when same-date pricing favors them. The Razer Blade 16 is the alternative for a thinner, more premium construction, usually at a significant price premium. A desktop remains the better answer for buyers who rarely move their computer: it avoids the battery, charger, noise, and thermal compromises of a powerful laptop.

Compare current, matched configurations rather than assuming any of these product families is automatically cheaper or faster. ROG Strix Scar · Razer Blade 16 · Gigabyte Aorus · Legion Pro series

Who should buy the Legion Pro 7i?

  • Competitive gamers: A strong fit if you play lighter esports titles and value 240Hz, though Performance mode and a wall outlet may be necessary.
  • AAA gamers: An excellent fit for high-quality 1600p gaming, with DLSS or frame generation available when ray tracing becomes demanding.
  • Video editors and 3D creators: A capable mobile workstation substitute for users who value CPU, GPU, memory, and display performance, but not a certified workstation.
  • Students and office users: Usually excessive unless gaming or heavy compute work is central. Battery life and weight are poor trade-offs for ordinary productivity.
  • Frequent travelers: A poor fit. The laptop is nearly six pounds before its large adapter, and unplugged gaming is brief.
  • Desktop-replacement buyers: The ideal audience: users who want desktop-class capability in a machine that can still be moved when necessary.

Final recommendation

The Lenovo Legion Pro 7i Gen 10 delivers what its design prioritizes: exceptional sustained plugged-in performance, an unusually good 1600p OLED display, and enough CPU and GPU capability for demanding games and creator workloads. Its weaknesses are equally deliberate. Battery life is short, fans are audible, the system is heavy, the charger is oversized, and Lenovo’s full-price RTX 5080 configurations can be expensive.

Buy it when the exact RTX 5080 configuration is meaningfully discounted and you will use it mainly at a desk. Avoid it when mobility, quiet operation, all-day endurance, or price-per-frame matters more than maximum performance. For the right buyer, this is a superb portable desktop replacement; for everyone else, it is an expensive way to carry compromises you may notice every day.
