Which Lenovo Legion Y70 are you looking at?
The Y70 is an Android smartphone in Lenovo’s Legion performance line, not a laptop. Use the year when comparing listings:

The name is also confused with the Lenovo Y70 Touch laptop, a 17.3-inch Windows notebook (Lenovo specification PDF), and the Legion Y700 gaming tablet. Those are different products.

Check the official 12 GB/256 GB, 16 GB/512 GB and 12 GB/512 GB listings for the exact variant. Notebookcheck reports additional display and camera details at its Y70 2026 coverage, while Cinco Días reports launch-era advertised display figures at this article. The often-repeated 7,000-nit figure is an advertised peak claim, not a measured sustained full-screen brightness result.

The 2026 phone is a substantial hardware upgrade rather than a cosmetic revision. Its larger battery and newer chip provide more gaming headroom, but its extra weight, import cost and China-market software remain important trade-offs.

Gaming performance and display
Chip and sustained performance
Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 is several generations newer than the 2022 Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1, but model names are not a substitute for sustained-game testing. Cooling design, firmware and game optimization determine whether peak performance lasts during long sessions.
144 Hz does not mean every game runs at 144 fps
Both phones can refresh the screen at up to 144 Hz, yet individual games impose their own frame-rate limits. A high-refresh panel improves supported games and scrolling; it does not guarantee 144 frames per second.

Brightness and resolution
The reported 2026 resolution is sharper, but driving more pixels can increase power use. Treat 7,000 nits as a peak or advertised mode figure rather than normal full-screen brightness. No verified benchmark establishes battery life or thermal behavior for either generation here.
Cameras
The 2022 Y70’s listed 13 MP and 2 MP rear cameras are modest by current flagship standards. The 2026 model lists a 50 MP rear camera, and secondary coverage identifies an 8 MP ultrawide. Megapixel counts alone do not establish image quality: sensor size, stabilization, processing and video support still require testing.

China ROM, Google services and everyday compatibility
Both generations are China-market phones. Before importing, confirm the exact firmware rather than trusting a seller’s “global ROM” label. That phrase may describe unofficial software and does not prove official Lenovo updates, Google certification or local warranty.
- Google Play availability and certification can vary by firmware and seller modification.
- Chinese system apps, notifications or untranslated menus may remain.
- Android Auto, banking apps, push notifications and DRM can behave differently from a global model.
- Carrier LTE, VoLTE and 5G bands must be checked against your network.
- Bootloader unlocking or ROM conversion can affect updates, security and app compatibility.
- Lenovo’s long-term Android and security-update commitment for these listings was not verified.
Availability, price and warranty
Lenovo’s China store lists the 2026 phone, with stock and pre-sale status varying by configuration. Some 2022 pages remain as catalog references while variants are discontinued or unavailable. The reviewed evidence does not verify an official US or broad international launch. Outside China, treat listings as gray-market imports unless Lenovo lists the exact model for your country. Who should buy each generation?
Choose the 2022 Y70 when
- It is heavily discounted and condition and returns are verifiable.
- You want an inexpensive Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 phone and accept China-ROM limitations.
- You do not prioritize cameras, battery capacity or long support.
Avoid the 2022 Y70 when
- The import price approaches a newer globally supported phone.

Safer alternatives
For most US and international buyers, a globally sold flagship is the safer choice for updates, carrier support, banking apps, warranty and resale. A global gaming phone may offer dedicated controls, cooling accessories and clearer regional support. A mainstream flagship generally provides stronger camera processing and service coverage. Compare live prices before deciding; the Y70’s apparent value can disappear after import costs.
Final verdict
The 2022 Lenovo Legion Y70 is only compelling as a cheap, well-verified China-market used or import phone. The 2026 Y70 New Generation is technically far more attractive, especially for battery-focused gaming, but its value depends on the seller, firmware, carrier compatibility, taxes and warranty. If those risks matter more than the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 and 8,000 mAh battery, buy a globally supported alternative instead.
