Yes—the Lenovo Legion Y700 (2024) was officially confirmed, and it was not merely a rumor. Lenovo initially described the compact gaming tablet as “coming soon,” without revealing every specification or promising a worldwide launch. It subsequently went on sale in China on October 25, 2024. International buyers generally encountered the closely related device under the name Lenovo Legion Tab Gen 3.
What Lenovo originally confirmed
Lenovo’s Legion branding channel officially teased a new compact gaming tablet. The announcement confirmed that Lenovo was preparing the device, but it was not a complete global launch announcement.

At that stage, Lenovo had not confirmed final pricing, every memory and storage configuration, a U.S. release, or whether international markets would use the Y700 name. Reports of a possible October launch were initially leaks or expectations, not Lenovo’s own complete release schedule. Digital Trends reported on Lenovo’s confirmation.
Release date: when did the Y700 (2024) launch?
The “coming soon” wording referred to the original teaser period. The Chinese-market Legion Y700 (2024) later went on sale on October 25, 2024, beginning with the Carbon Black model. Contemporary launch reporting listed Chinese pre-order pricing of 2,899 yuan for the 12GB/256GB version and 3,299 yuan for the 16GB/512GB version. Gizmochina reported the sale date and launch prices.

That date was a China-market launch, not proof of a simultaneous worldwide release. Lenovo described international expansion of its related Legion Tab products as covering selected EMEA and Asian markets rather than every country.

Is the Legion Tab Gen 3 the same tablet?
The Legion Tab Gen 3 is best described as the international counterpart or closely related regional version of the Chinese Legion Y700 (2024). The core platform matches closely: Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, an 8.8-inch 2560×1600 165Hz screen, Android 14, a 6,550mAh battery and a compact body.
However, “same device” should not be treated as “identical SKU.” Lenovo can vary memory, storage, firmware, languages, charger, accessories, cellular support, colors, warranty and regulatory certification by region. Lenovo also notes that specifications may vary by model or market.
Where was it available?
China
The Legion Y700 (2024) launched as a China-market tablet. Lenovo’s Chinese listing identifies the hardware, although the page currently indicates that the product is unavailable or no longer actively orderable. Its historical price field should not be treated as a current retail price.

United States and selected international markets
In the U.S., Lenovo used the name Legion Tab Gen 3 rather than Legion Y700 (2024). The official U.S. product page confirms the related Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 tablet, but availability, stock and pricing can change. Other markets may receive the device at different times or with different configurations. Lenovo’s regional availability announcement refers to selected EMEA and Asian markets, not universal worldwide distribution. See Lenovo’s regional announcement.

China launch price
- 12GB RAM / 256GB storage: 2,899 yuan
- 16GB RAM / 512GB storage: 3,299 yuan
These were reported China-market launch or pre-order prices. They are not U.S. MSRPs. Direct currency conversion ignores taxes, import costs, retailer margins, warranty differences and regional pricing, so it should not be used to claim an equivalent American price.
Gaming features
- Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 performance platform
- 165Hz refresh rate for compatible games and high frame rates
- Compact 8.8-inch form factor suited to handheld-style play
- Lenovo Legion ColdFront cooling
- Legion Space and Game Assistant on the global model
- Refresh-rate and thermal-mode controls
- HDR10 support on the U.S. listing
- Dual USB-C connectivity listed for the Chinese model
A 165Hz panel does not make every game run at 165 frames per second. The benefit depends on the game, its frame-rate cap, graphics settings and the tablet’s sustained performance.

Important drawbacks
- Small screen: The 8.8-inch display is portable but less comfortable than an 11-inch tablet for productivity, split-screen work and some media use.
- Android limitations: Performance is strong, but Android games can have inconsistent controller support, weaker ports or frame-rate caps.
- Regional differences: Imported Chinese units may use different firmware, languages, chargers, update policies and warranty arrangements.
- Configuration mismatch: The China-market 16GB/512GB option is not automatically available internationally.
- Accessory costs: A controller, stand, case or USB-C hub may be useful for a better gaming setup.
Should you buy the Y700 (2024) or Legion Tab Gen 3?
The official regional model is the safer choice for buyers who want local warranty coverage, simpler returns, regional software and predictable charger support. In the U.S., that means looking for the Legion Tab Gen 3 rather than expecting a product officially sold under the Y700 name.
A Chinese Y700 import may appeal to buyers specifically seeking the 16GB/512GB configuration or a China-market price, but the risks must be checked before purchase:

How it fits against alternatives
Larger Android gaming tablets provide more viewing area but are less portable. Gaming phones are easier to carry but have smaller screens and may offer less sustained cooling. An iPad mini has a strong tablet-app ecosystem but is neither Android nor built around Lenovo’s gaming software. Steam Deck-class handheld PCs support a broader PC-game library but are heavier and operate as handheld computers rather than Android tablets.
Do not confuse the generations
- Y700 2023: Earlier generation using Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1.
- Y700 (2024): China-market Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 model.
- Legion Tab Gen 3: International branding for the closely related Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 tablet.
- Later Y700 models: Separate, newer generations that should be identified by their year and chipset.
Searching only for “Lenovo Y700” is no longer precise enough. Confirm the year, processor, model number and market before buying.
