“Lenovo Legion Y700 (2025)” can mean two different tablets. The Chinese fourth-generation Y700 uses Snapdragon 8 Elite, a 3040 × 1904 display and a 7,600mAh battery. The official global Legion Tab Gen 3—often mislabeled Y700 2025—uses Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, 2560 × 1600 and a 6,550mAh battery. Check the processor, resolution, battery, model number and ROM before comparing any price.
This guide keeps those products separate so you can identify the listing, judge performance and software risk, and decide whether an import is actually a deal.
Which Lenovo Legion Y700 (2025) is being sold?
Retail titles are unreliable. Lenovo officially calls the global product Legion Tab Gen 3, while the Chinese 2025 product is generally described as the fourth-generation Legion Y700. Some review pages use “Y700 2025” for either one.
| Identifier | Global Legion Tab Gen 3 | Chinese Y700 fourth generation |
|---|---|---|
| Processor | Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 | Snapdragon 8 Elite |
| Display | 8.8-inch, 2560 × 1600 | 8.8-inch, 3040 × 1904 |
| Battery | 6,550mAh | 7,600mAh typical |
| Google Play | Supported on the official global model | Depends on the ROM and seller |
| Card slot | None in Lenovo’s PSREF | Reported in Chinese documentation; verify the exact SKU |
| Best fit | Predictable global ownership | Maximum compact-format performance |
Confirm the seller’s model number and the About Tablet screen. A listing that combines Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, 3040 × 1904, 6,550mAh and a 50MP camera is mixing specifications from different generations.

Display and design
The 8.8-inch chassis is the main appeal: it is easier to hold for games than an 11- or 12-inch tablet while retaining enough area for touch controls. Both versions support 165Hz, but a game must actually render above 60fps to benefit. The Chinese model has the sharper 3040 × 1904 panel; the global model’s 2560 × 1600 screen is still high-resolution and officially rated at 98% DCI-P3.
- Both use LCD rather than OLED, so black levels and contrast are not OLED-like.
- High refresh rates can increase power use.
- The glossy surface can reflect outdoor light.
- The compact body may create warm hand-contact areas during long sessions.
- 16:10 suits games and video, although some content will show cropping or letterboxing.
- The size is less comfortable for split-screen documents and desktop-style productivity.
Lenovo’s brightness, gamut and touch figures are specifications, not independent measurements of sustained brightness, flicker, response time or latency.
Gaming performance and thermals
Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 global model
Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 remains a high-end Android gaming platform suitable for demanding games, emulation and cloud gaming. The compact enclosure makes sustained cooling more important than a short peak benchmark. UL lists approximately 6 hours 19 minutes in a battery test for a product labeled “Lenovo Legion Y700 (2025),” but the tested generation and conditions must be confirmed before using that number as your expected runtime: UL Benchmarks.
Snapdragon 8 Elite Chinese model
The Snapdragon 8 Elite is the newer, faster platform and Lenovo describes a second-generation cooling design. Those cooling and extended-game claims are manufacturer testing, not independent laboratory results: Lenovo China product documentation. Actual results depend on the game, frame-rate cap, graphics settings, firmware, temperature and brightness.
What matters in real play
- Check whether your games support 120Hz or 165Hz; many remain capped at 60fps.
- Expect emulator results to vary with emulator version, game, graphics backend and configuration.
- Consider charge-separation or bypass-charging behavior on the exact model if you play while plugged in.
- A clip-on or desk fan can help during long competitive sessions, but it is not a substitute for checking sustained performance tests.
- Verify controller mappings and screen orientation, including black-bar behavior, for the games you actually play.
Battery and charging
The Chinese model has the larger rated battery and 68W charging; the global model has a 6,550mAh battery. Capacity does not equal runtime: refresh rate, brightness, game load, radios and thermal throttling all change endurance. Do not apply a battery result to both tablets merely because a review uses “Y700 2025” in its title.

Software, ROM and Google Play
Official global model
The official Legion Tab Gen 3 ships with Google Play, Android 14 and Lenovo’s stated three-OS-upgrade policy. It is the lower-risk choice for buyers who want normal Google services, regional support and a conventional warranty: Lenovo’s US product page.
Chinese imports
Chinese-market software may have Chinese defaults, regional services and different notification behavior. Google Play may not be enabled by default. Bootloader state, banking-app compatibility, DRM/Widevine, Android Auto, OTA updates and warranty handling can differ.
“Global ROM” in a marketplace listing may mean reseller-modified firmware, not an official global Lenovo SKU. Before paying, request:
- The exact model number.
- An About Tablet screenshot showing software and region.
- Google Play certification status.
- Widevine level if streaming matters.
- Bootloader status and update method.
- Warranty country, return address and dead-pixel policy.
- Charger wattage, plug type and included accessories.
Do not flash firmware using a generic guide: packages are model- and region-specific, and a wrong image can make an imported tablet unusable.
Cameras, speakers, ports and accessories
Neither model is primarily a camera tablet. The Chinese Y700 lists a 50MP rear camera, while the global model uses 13MP autofocus and 2MP macro cameras. Do not merge those camera specifications. Both emphasize stereo speakers and Dolby Atmos. The global model has no card reader according to Lenovo’s PSREF; the Chinese documentation reports TF/microSD support, which must be checked against the particular imported SKU. Two USB-C ports are reported for the Chinese model, but port speed and video-output behavior require SKU verification.

Deal checklist
- Confirm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 versus Snapdragon 8 Elite.
- Confirm 12GB/256GB versus 16GB/512GB.
- Identify official global software versus a modified Chinese ROM.
- Account for VAT, sales tax, customs, shipping and charger compatibility.
- Check new, open-box, refurbished or used condition.
- Read the return window, dead-pixel terms and warranty location.
- Ignore listing photos that appear to show another generation.
- Remember that “2025” may describe the listing year rather than the hardware generation.
Reviews and independent evidence
Coverage is divided because the name is divided. Gizmochina’s exact-title page describes a Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 tablet, while its separate 2025 review covers the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 4 model: product page and Gen 4 review. Notebookcheck’s review collection also concerns Snapdragon 8 Elite hardware and should not be used as evidence for the global Gen 3: Notebookcheck.

Lenovo Legion Tab Gen 3
This is the closest official global alternative—and the global model discussed above. It trades the Chinese Gen 4’s newer processor, sharper panel and larger battery for easier software and warranty ownership.
Lenovo Legion Tab Gen 5
A newer Legion Tab generation is reported in some markets by 2026, with an 8.8-inch 3040 × 1904 165Hz display and a 9,000mAh battery. Availability and regional specifications must be checked on the applicable Lenovo store before paying a premium; a search result alone is not a dependable price or specification sheet.

iPad mini
Choose it for long-term platform support, tablet-optimized apps, compact size, Apple integration and resale value. It is less suitable if Android customization, high-refresh gaming or expandable storage is your priority.
RedMagic gaming tablets
These can suit buyers seeking aggressive gaming controls, active cooling or larger batteries, but they may be larger and have different software, camera and regional-support compromises.
Xiaomi Pad and larger Android tablets
Larger tablets are better for video, split-screen work, keyboard accessories and large-screen gaming. They are less pocketable and less natural for handheld play than an 8.8-inch Legion.
Who should buy which model?
Choose the global Legion Tab Gen 3 when:
- You need Google Play and official regional software.
- Warranty and predictable updates matter more than maximum performance.
- You find it at a substantial discount.
- You do not need a microSD card.
Choose the Chinese Snapdragon 8 Elite Y700 when:
- Compact-format performance is the priority.
- You want the higher-resolution display, larger battery and newer platform.
- You can verify ROM, model number, warranty and returns.
- The import premium and setup risk are acceptable.
Hesitate or walk away when:
- The seller will not provide the exact model number.
- The listing combines specifications from both generations.
- “Global ROM” is not explained or certified.
- The saving disappears after tax, shipping and return-risk calculations.
- You require cellular service, a large productivity screen or guaranteed local warranty.
Final verdict
The global Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 Legion Tab Gen 3 is the safer recommendation for most international buyers: it has Google Play, official global support and a still-powerful gaming platform. The Chinese Snapdragon 8 Elite Y700 is the more exciting compact gaming machine, with a sharper display, larger battery and newer silicon, but it is only a good deal when the ROM, model, warranty and total landed cost are verified. Never buy from a title alone—buy the generation you have positively identified.
