The game database comes from IGDB, which is community-driven. That means coverage and metadata can evolve. Check the exact title, edition and platform before logging a game, especially when remasters, ports and similarly named releases appear together.

A reliable Backloggd setup sequence
- Create the profile you want others to see. Decide whether your username, avatar, bio and activity should be public before adding a large history.
- Add owned or accessible games to your library. Keep ownership separate from games you merely hope to play.
- Use Backlog for unstarted games. Move a title to Playing when you begin it, then to Played when you finish or otherwise complete your intended run.
- Record sessions and playthroughs as they happen. A short session note is more useful than trying to reconstruct months of play later.
- Write the review after the rating decision. State what the score means to you so friends can interpret it consistently across genres.

Grouvee’s official page presents the service around games, shelves and community. It lists standard shelves for Playing, Played, Backlog and Wish List, plus unlimited custom shelves. That model suits players who think in categories such as “short games,” “co-op with family,” “paused,” or “play before the sequel,” rather than one linear backlog.
What makes its organization different
Custom shelves let you preserve several views of the same library without forcing one status to do every job. A game can belong to a genre-inspired shelf, a platform shelf and a personal project list while still retaining its standard playing or backlog state. The official page also lists a play timeline, so your collection can show chronology as well as categories.
Steam import and its limits
Grouvee advertises automatic Steam library import. That can remove much of the initial data-entry burden for a large PC library. Do not assume that every account imports perfectly: the public feature description does not establish behavior for every Steam privacy configuration, hidden game, family-sharing arrangement or duplicate edition. Confirm your Steam profile visibility and inspect the imported list before treating it as authoritative.

A practical Grouvee workflow
- Check your Steam privacy settings. Make the library visible enough for an import to read it, then restore stricter settings if you prefer once the import is complete.
- Run the library import and review the results. Look for duplicates, missing DLC, demos and titles you do not actually intend to track.
- Clean the standard shelves first. Move unfinished games to Backlog, active games to Playing and completed games to Played before building elaborate custom shelves.
- Create custom shelves around decisions you make repeatedly. Examples include “under ten hours,” “local multiplayer” or “revisit this year.” Avoid shelves that merely duplicate the standard statuses.
- Apply the five-star scale consistently. Define your own boundaries for each star level before reviewing a large batch.
- Use the timeline to find gaps. Add missing sessions or dates while memories are still fresh instead of relying only on imported ownership data.
- Follow friends and save useful community lists. Treat lists as discovery aids, not as proof that a game will suit your preferences.
Where Grouvee is less suitable
If your priority is a highly personal diary with multiple playthrough records and journal-style entries, verify that its workflow captures the detail you want before migrating. Its public page establishes shelves, import, ratings, reviews, timeline, lists and following; it does not promise that every Letterboxd-like logging nuance is present.
GameTrack: investigate it as a provisional option
GameTrack is worth checking only with a verification step. Secondary search results described mobile apps and syncing connected game accounts, but the official homepage at gametrack.app did not return readable content for confirmation. Those capabilities should therefore be treated as leads, not established specifications.
What to verify before committing
- Which operating systems have a currently maintained app, and the date of the latest store release.
- Exactly which connected services can be synchronized, whether synchronization is one-way or two-way, and how often it runs.
- Whether the service supports manual entries for games or platforms outside those integrations.
- How it handles duplicate editions, privacy-restricted accounts and deleted games.
- Whether you can export your history and delete the account without contacting support.
- Which features are free and which require a subscription or one-time payment.
If the answers are clear and match your needs, GameTrack could be a better mobile or synchronization choice than a web-first diary. If the answers are difficult to find, start with a small test library rather than moving your complete history.

You want a public gaming diary and friend reviews
Start with Backloggd. Its documented combination of journals, playthroughs, sessions, ratings, reviews, friend following and profile filters most closely matches the social-diary idea behind Letterboxd. Accept the mobile website in place of a native app if you choose it.
You want shelves and a tidy backlog
Start with Grouvee. Standard statuses cover the basic pipeline, while unlimited custom shelves let you maintain several personal systems at once. This is the better fit when categorization matters more than preserving a detailed session journal.
You want automatic library setup
Grouvee is the only option in this set with an official page that explicitly documents automatic Steam library import. Treat the import as a convenience, then audit it. For other connected services, verify the current integration list before assuming support.

You need a native phone app
Backloggd’s September 10, 2026 FAQ update says there is no dedicated app, although its website is mobile-optimized. Investigate GameTrack’s current store listings if a native app is essential, and do not rely on older comparison pages for availability.

You need export, privacy or deletion guarantees
Do not infer these policies from a feature list. Before entering years of history, open the current privacy policy, account settings and help documentation for the service you are considering. Look for an actual export format, deletion procedure, visibility controls for individual logs and a way to report incorrect metadata. The public descriptions for Backloggd and Grouvee establish their tracking features, not a universal portability or privacy standard.

- Test with ten representative games. Include a current game, a completed game, a replay, a wish-list title, a remaster and a game from a different platform.
- Measure the logging effort. Time how long it takes to add a title, change its status, record a session and publish a review. A feature-rich service that you avoid using will not maintain your history.
- Check identity and edition handling. Confirm that the entry identifies the platform and release you mean, and that a sequel or remaster is not silently merged with the original.
- Inspect visibility controls. Find settings for the whole profile, individual reviews, activity feeds, friend lists and private backlog entries.
- Try the social workflow. Follow one friend, find one review and create one list. Note whether recommendations come from people you trust or from an undifferentiated feed.
- Test import and correction. Import a small library, edit a wrong item, remove a duplicate and see whether the correction persists after synchronization.
- Locate export and deletion controls. If you cannot find them before investing time, treat that as a portability risk and keep your own backup.
- Review pricing at the moment you sign up. Free features, optional supporter tiers and app subscriptions can change independently of the feature pages.

Calling every owned game a backlog game
Ownership and intention are different. A library entry says you have access; a backlog entry says you have not started and intend to play it. Keeping those states separate makes completion statistics and recommendations more credible.
Letting an import become your source of truth
Imports reflect what an external account exposes, not what you remember playing. Audit duplicates, DLC, demos, shared libraries and games hidden by privacy settings. Keep a dated personal export or spreadsheet if the service offers no clear download.

A five-star score is only useful when your future self understands it. Decide whether three stars means average, good or recommended, and write that rule in a private note. Do not change the meaning halfway through a backlog cleanup.

Assuming a mobile website is a native app
