It is a released 39-inch curved OLED gaming monitor combining a 3440 × 1440 ultrawide panel, 240Hz refresh rate, USB-C connectivity and LG’s webOS 24 smart-monitor platform. LG announced a US MSRP of $1,599 in April 2025, although that launch price should not be treated as the current August 2026 street price.
What LG announced before CES 2025
The 39GX90SA was introduced as the smart-gaming member of LG’s UltraGear GX9 family. LG’s CES 2025 announcement highlighted its 39-inch 21:9 OLED display, aggressive 800R curve, USB-C connectivity, ergonomic L-shaped stand and built-in webOS features.

It should not be confused with LG’s separate 45-inch 5K2K OLED monitors. The 39GX90SA is a 3440 × 1440 WQHD ultrawide, not a 5120 × 2160 display.

What webOS adds to a gaming monitor
webOS lets the monitor function independently of a connected PC for supported entertainment and cloud-gaming applications. LG describes access to services including YouTube, Prime Video and Nvidia GeForce Now, though app availability, account requirements and subscriptions depend on the country and service.
This makes the 39GX90SA more versatile than a conventional gaming monitor: users can stream video or access supported cloud games without a separate streaming box. It does not make the monitor a general-purpose gaming computer. Native PC games still require a PC, console or compatible cloud-gaming service, and internet access is required for webOS services.
Gaming features and trade-offs
The 240Hz maximum refresh rate suits high-frame-rate competitive games, while OLED pixels provide per-pixel black levels and very high stated contrast. LG’s 0.03ms gray-to-gray figure is a manufacturer claim, not an independent measurement.

Combined with a 1.85M:1 contrast ratio, up to 99.5% (typical) DCI-P3 color, and Delta E≤2 accuracy, visuals appear vivid, precise, and true to the creator’s intent.
The monitor supports variable refresh through AMD FreeSync Premium and Nvidia G-Sync Compatibility. Its 3440 × 1440 resolution is also less demanding to render at high frame rates than 4K or 5K2K ultrawide resolutions.
LG lists a peak HDR brightness of 1,300 cd/m² at a 1.5% average picture level. That is a small highlight window, not sustained or full-screen brightness. The Canadian specification lists up to 98.5% DCI-P3 coverage and 275 cd/m² typical SDR brightness in the US announcement, while regional sheets may use different wording.
Connectivity for laptops and multi-device setups
USB-C can carry video and data while delivering up to 65W to a connected laptop. That is convenient for ordinary productivity laptops, but may be insufficient for some high-performance models under sustained load.

Picture-by-picture and picture-in-picture modes make the monitor useful for combining a desktop, laptop or other source. However, buyers should verify the exact regional port layout before ordering. Early reporting from Notebookcheck described a second DisplayPort, while LG Canada’s later product page lists one DisplayPort 1.4. The safest conclusion is that DisplayPort count may differ by market or documentation and should not be generalized.
39GX90SA versus the 39GS95QE
The 39GS95QE is the most relevant comparison. Available secondary reporting indicates that the 39GX90SA appears to use the same fundamental 39-inch, 800R, 3440 × 1440, 240Hz OLED platform. That is a reported hardware relationship, not an explicit LG confirmation.
The clearest additions are:
- Built-in webOS 24 smart-monitor functionality.
- USB-C connectivity with up to 65W power delivery.
- Networking hardware and other revised connectivity options.
There is no evidence in the supplied specifications that the 39GX90SA represents a major panel-generation jump in image quality. Its appeal is primarily the combination of familiar high-refresh OLED hardware with smart features and improved device connectivity.

The 1440p caveat
A 39-inch 3440 × 1440 display offers a wide gaming view without the GPU burden of 5K2K, but it has lower pixel density than a 4K monitor or a 5K2K ultrawide. Text and fine desktop elements will therefore look less sharp, especially at close viewing distances.
The 800R curve can make games feel more enveloping, but it is also unusually aggressive for productivity. Buyers should consider desk depth, viewing distance and whether curved geometry suits their document, design or spreadsheet work.
Launch timeline and pricing
- Before CES 2025: LG provided specifications and presented the monitor as part of its UltraGear GX9 family.
- February 25, 2025: Contemporary reporting identified Japan as the first launch market.
- April 3, 2025: LG announced US pricing and availability at a $1,599 MSRP.
- April 2025: Reporting documented availability in the US, UK and Eurozone.
Reported launch prices included ¥249,800 in Japan, €1,499 in Europe and £1,299.99 in the UK. These are historical launch figures, not verified current prices. LG’s US announcement also listed the 34GX90SA at $1,399 and the 45GX90SA at $1,699.
Who should consider it?
- Gamers who want a large 21:9 OLED display at 240Hz.
- Buyers who prefer 3440 × 1440 to the heavier rendering demands of 5K2K.
- Users who will actually use webOS streaming or cloud gaming.
- Laptop users who benefit from one USB-C connection and up to 65W charging.
- Players who prefer an immersive 800R curve.
Who should skip it?
- Buyers prioritizing maximum text sharpness should consider 4K or 5K2K alternatives.
- Owners of a good streaming box may gain little from webOS.
- Laptop users requiring more than 65W charging should plan for a separate charger.
- Those seeking the cheapest 240Hz OLED should compare discounted non-smart models such as the 39GS95QE.
- Productivity-heavy users should weigh OLED image-retention precautions and the unusually deep curve.
LG’s 45GX950A and 45GX990A are more suitable for buyers who prioritize 5120 × 2160 resolution, while the 34GX90SA offers the same smart-monitor direction in a smaller format. The 45GX90SA provides a larger 1440p canvas but needs more desk space.
Verdict
The LG UltraGear OLED 39GX90SA is best understood as a smart, connected version of LG’s high-refresh 39-inch OLED ultrawide concept—not as a 5K2K monitor or a replacement for a gaming PC. Its distinguishing feature is the combination of 240Hz OLED gaming, USB-C and built-in webOS. That makes it compelling for buyers who want streaming and cloud gaming built into the display, but less compelling for anyone who does not need those features or who prioritizes pixel density above convenience.
