South African batter Lhuan-dre Pretorius set a new record for the highest individual score in men’s T20 cricket, hitting 188 not out from 79 balls for the Titans against the Knights in Bloemfontein on 2 October 2026. His innings passed Chris Gayle’s previous mark of 175 not out.
How Pretorius made the record 188
Pretorius struck 15 fours and 13 sixes, scoring at a reported strike rate of 237.97. The innings came in a match contemporary reports describe as the CSA T20 Challenge. Reuters coverage carried by cricket.com.au and a Rajasthan Royals report both give the score, balls faced and boundary count.

Gayle’s 175 not out had stood as the men’s T20 individual record until Pretorius surpassed it. The figures and match details for both innings are reported by Reuters coverage on cricket.com.au.
The Titans’ result and the competition name
The Titans finished on 267 for 3 and beat the Knights by 143 runs, according to SABC Sport. Match reports use the name CSA T20 Challenge, while Cricket South Africa’s current domestic pages label the 2026/27 season Pro20 Cup and list the 2 October Knights–Titans fixture at Mangaung Oval. The available reporting does not explain the difference in naming.
