Epic said Messi appeared in Fortnite on December 13, with two Messi-inspired outfits and related cosmetics. That announcement does not confirm whether either outfit is available in the Item Shop today.
Is Messi coming to Fortnite?
He already came to Fortnite. In a December 16, 2024 announcement, Epic Games Japan said Messi appeared in the game on December 13. Epic’s French announcement, published December 13, described the launch as taking place on December 14 at 1 a.m. local time. Those dates reflect the announcements’ regional timing; neither should be treated as a universal launch time.
So if you have seen the claim that Messi is “rumoured” to be joining Fortnite, it is outdated when presented as a future possibility. Epic officially announced the collaboration in 2024.
What was included in the Messi Fortnite collaboration?
Epic named two outfits: Lionel Messi and Streetwear Spark Messi. The launch also included two emotes and other in-game cosmetics, according to the company’s announcements.

Lionel Messi outfit
Epic’s French announcement described variants associated with The Mane event emote. It also announced the emote as part of the launch cosmetics.
Streetwear Spark Messi outfit
Epic said the Streetwear Spark Messi outfit has reactive elements during sprints. These details describe the 2024 launch; they do not establish that the outfit is currently for sale.

Can you still get the Messi skin?
The December 2024 announcements confirm the original collaboration, not current Item Shop availability. Check the in-game Item Shop or Fortnite’s current official shop listing before assuming the Lionel Messi or Streetwear Spark Messi outfit can be purchased. The official news index is not a live inventory record, and the announcements do not say how often the cosmetics return.
Can a Fortnite gift card unlock Messi’s outfit?
A Fortnite gift card can fund Fortnite purchases, and Epic says V-Bucks can be used to buy outfits. But a gift card does not unlock a particular outfit or make it available in the Item Shop. Epic also says V-Bucks cards are being replaced as Fortnite gift cards roll out, with availability varying by region. Before buying a card, check the card type and Epic’s official gift-card guidance for account, platform, and territory conditions.

What Messi said about appearing in Fortnite
In Epic Games Japan’s announcement, Messi said: “It’s amazing to see myself represented in Fortnite. Growing up, I never imagined something like this would be possible. Soccer has always been about joy and connection, and now fans can experience that through my own outfits in a way that goes beyond the field. I hope they have fun!”
