Little Nightmares III does not list local or split-screen co-op; its co-op mode is online. Both players need an internet connection and should use the same platform, with one exception: Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2 can play together following a 2026 update. One person can host using the full game while the other joins with the free Friend’s Pass.
Does Little Nightmares III have split-screen or couch co-op?
No local or split-screen mode is listed. Bandai Namco describes co-op as online and says players need an internet connection. That means you and your friend cannot play together on one console or PC using the same screen.

Bandai Namco’s Little Nightmares III Q&A states: “In Little Nightmares III, coop is online, you will therefore need an internet connection.”
How to play Little Nightmares III online with a friend
- Check platform compatibility. Both players should use the same platform, except for the supported Nintendo Switch-to-Switch 2 pairing described below. Cross-platform play between different manufacturers is not supported.
- Make sure the host owns the full game. The invited player downloads the free Friend’s Pass for the platform they use.
- Connect online and invite your friend. Co-op requires an internet connection. The Friend’s Pass lets the invited player join the owner without buying another full copy.
- Use the same two players for that co-op save. Start or continue the save with the same pair; use another save if you want to play solo or with a different friend.
Bandai Namco explains that “only one copy of the game is required to enjoy Little Nightmares III with a friend” through the Friend’s Pass. The game supports up to eight saves, so you can keep separate progress for different play arrangements.

Which platforms can play together?
Cross-platform play between different manufacturers is unsupported. Do not assume that owning the game on different brands of console or on PC and console is enough to connect.
A January 2026 update added cross-generation multiplayer between Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2. This is a specific compatibility exception, not a general promise that different console generations or platforms can play together. Bandai Namco’s January update notes identify the Switch/Switch 2 feature and its February 3, 2026 rollout.

How Friend’s Pass and co-op saves work
The full-game owner hosts; the other player uses the free Friend’s Pass. Both still need to be online and on compatible platforms. Sony’s Little Nightmares III PS5 and PS4 listing also describes the Friend’s Pass as a way for a friend to join online.
Co-op save files are tied to the two players who started them. A co-op save cannot be switched to solo play or continued with a different partner. Start a separate save for solo play or another co-op pairing; up to eight saves are available.

Yes. Bandai Namco lists October 10, 2025 as the release date and announced the game as available. See its available-now announcement.
